Adrianna and her mother, Jennifer Wix, were seen together between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m. on March 25, 2004. Jennifer's live-in boyfriend, William Benton, initially stated Jennifer and Adrianna left home with an unknown individual.

He later altered his story and said he and Jennifer had an argument and he dropped her and Adrianna off at an Exxon gas station near Exit 112 off Interstate 65 in Cross Plains, Tennessee. After five to ten minutes, Adrianna and Jennifer got into a white four-door early 1990's model mid-size car, at a gas station near Exit 112 off Interstate 65 in Cross Plains, Tennessee.

Benton stated Jennifer went to their home, without Adrianna, the next afternoon. She was driving the car she'd gotten into the previous day. She asked for her income tax return but her boyfriend's parents were not at home to give her the money so she left and said she would come back for it. She never did.

Jennifer and Adrianna have never been heard from again. Neither of them had any personal items, money, or extra clothes when they disappeared.

Jennifer and Adrianna may still be in the Cross Plains area, or they may have traveled to Florida. They are believed to be in danger, as it is uncharacteristic of Jennifer to be out of touch with her family.

Animals can sever body parts once they start to decay. Especially if they were fighting over the find. Plus, there was water involved. I'm not saying it wasn't a human, I'm just saying that's not the only conclusion.

It changes something that his head was found too. Now we know he is dead. Was it murder, suicide or natural causes now has to be determined if they have enough to determine that. They should be able to determine if it was animal or human severance, i would imagine.

SPRINGFIELD, TN — Human remains discovered over the course of several days along Sulphur Fork Creek have renewed focus on a decades-old missing persons case involving a mother and daughter who disappeared in 2004.
The first body part, found July 4, was identified as belonging to 68-year-old Joseph Frank Benton Sr., according to police. Benton was one of the last people known to see Jennifer and Adrianna Wix. At the time, Jennifer was dating Benton’s son.

Additional remains found​

On Saturday, a young boy discovered a skull in the same area of the creek, which prompted a search by police.

When the Wix family learned of this new discovery, they went there themselves and said they found more remains. They released the following statement:
“Earlier today, our family discovered additional human remains at the Springfield Greenway near Sulphur Fork Creek. Out of respect for the ongoing investigation, we won’t be sharing more about what was found and will leave that to investigators.
A young boy found a human skull… something no child should ever have to experience. We are pleading with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office to address the community regarding these recent discoveries and our ongoing case. The remains are likely that of Joseph Benton, one of the last individuals known to see Jennifer and Adrianna before their disappearance.”
Police used dive teams and cadaver dogs to search for remains over the span of multiple days.

Police investigation ongoing​

Springfield police said they used underwater dive and K9 cadaver units to search for possible bone remains on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The department confirmed that those remains are being tested at the medical examiner’s office. No identification has been made.
Residents who frequent the greenway said the discoveries have left them with questions. Erin and Sherree Bush, who walk the area regularly, said they can’t help but be on alert.
“We’ve talked every day, every time we went walking, I think, since they found the leg, we’ve mentioned it,” Erin Bush said.
They said they expected more information from authorities about the discoveries.
“They didn’t really share much more detail about it,” Erin Bush said.
“We would have expected to hear a lot more on something like that,” Sherree Bush added.
Questions remain about the identity of all potential human remains found, how they came to be in the creek and their connection to the 2004 missing persons case.

Jennifer and Adrianna Wix still missing after 22 years​

A young mother and toddler disappeared in Tennessee 22 years ago, and a podcast has brought new attention to the case and its twists and turns.

Nothing looked more natural for Jennifer Wix than motherhood.

Her daughter, Adrianna, was always front and center. As a single mother, it was all about the baby for Wix and her family, including her sister, Casey Robinson.

“I was very, very close to both of them,” Robinson said. “I took care of Adrianna a lot as an infant. Jennifer being a young mom, she just needed that extra support.”

Wix was living with Robinson and her mother after a bad fight with a boyfriend, who was not Adrianna’s father.

“She was sharing a car with my mom and working second and third shift jobs, so she would oftentimes not be there in the evening,” Robinson said. “So, I would take care of Adrianna all through the night, a 13, 14-year-old girl taking care of a baby.”

Although young, Robinson knew she didn’t like Wix’s boyfriend, Joey Benton.

It didn’t take long for the teenager’s gut instinct to prove prophetic.

“So my second impression of him was him taking my sister and taking my neice and he kicked down our front door,” Robinson said. “So there was a lot htat made me not like him from the start.”

Wix went to live with Benton and his parents.

The couple and Adrianna stayed in a barn on the Springfield, Tennessee, property until the cold forced them inside with Benton’s parents.

Wix’s mother, Kathy Nale, wasn’t a fan of Benton either.

“I was always suspicious of my daughter’s boyfriend from minute one,” she said.

Nale says the family couldn’t reach Wix on March 26, 2004, and reported her missing the very next day.

“I had a sinking feeling that things just were not good and that I was not hearing truth from him,” Nale said.

She says Benton claimed the couple had an argument and Wix asked for she and Adrianna be dropped off at a gas station along I-65.

“When he started telling the story that just didn’t make sense and he had to drive right past my home to drop her at the interstate, that just didn’t make sense,” Nale said. “And what kind of man, even a young man of 21, he was at the time, what kind of man just takes their girlfriend and her baby and drops them at an interstate exit at 930 at night in the cold?”

Benton’s story continued, with Nale saying he told them Wix came back to the house and the local cemetery the next day, without Adrianna, to pick up her tax refund and was not seen again.

“I had a young lady who worked at the store that he told me he dropped her at, who knew Jennifer, went to school with her. And she told me, ‘She wasn’t here. I was working that night. She wasn’t here,'” Nale said.

Wix was under stress at the time, managing her relationship and caring for her daughter.

“The baby was sick. She had an infection and she had been to the E.R. a couple days before they disappeared,” Robinson said. “And so I think just with tensions high in the house with arguing, going on, the baby being sick and crying and her boyfriend was not Adrianna’s father.”

Adrianna’s father, Billy Williams, didn’t learn of his child until she was already a toddler.


The investigation took a major turn in 2024.

The Benton property was raided in a child sexual exploitation case, with NewsNation-affiliate WKRN on the scene.

Joseph Benton Sr. was arrested on that warrant.

While the child exploitation charge ended up being dismissed, a weapons charge and a probation violation did land Benton Sr. behind bars.

When he was released, he went missing himself, after making Robertson County’s most wanted list.

His remains were discovered in multiple locations along the Springfield Greenway in the summer of 2025.


Robinson joined a skilled podcaster for the series “Missing in Hushtown” to bring attention to the case.

Nale recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Benton and his mother, Cynthia. The mother and son have denied the allegations in civil court.

“I would like to say to them that this isn’t going away. This isn’t something that I’ll let go away, “Robinson said. As long as I can, I will continue trying to find Jennifer and Adrianna, and I don’t care how uncomfortable it makes you.”
