William Tyrrell (born 26 June 2011) is an Australian boy who disappeared at the age of 3 from Kendall, New South Wales, on 12 September 2014. He had been playing at his foster grandmother's house with his sister, and was wearing a Spider-Man suit at the time of his disappearance.[2] Tyrrell is believed to have been abducted.[3][4][5][6]

Despite extensive investigations, as of 21 June 2019, five years after his disappearance, Tyrrell has not been found, or his abductor(s) identified. On 12 September 2016, two years after his disappearance, a reward of A$1 million was offered for the recovery of William and does not require the arrest, charging or conviction of any person or persons.[7]

William Tyrrell fifth anniversary of disappearance, questions on police handling

Today marks five years since William Tyrrell vanished without a trace from his foster grandmother's home, and questions are now being asked about a witness who claims to have seen him.

On September 12, 2014, about 10.15am, William went missing from the home in Kendall on NSW's mid north coast when he went to play in the yard.

Now, on the anniversary of the disappearance, police have launched a new hotline directly into the coroner's office, which is investigating.

But journalist Caroline Overington, who has closely followed the case and started the podcast Nowhere Child, has now spoken on William's foster mother publicly attacking police, saying they don't have any real leads.

"The investigation is now five years old and they don't have any real leads and there is no forensic evidence collected," she told Seven's Sunrise on Thursday.

"No trace of William has been found - not even a shoe or a hair or any sign that he was ever really here, and that is frustrating.

"But the police can't always tell you what they're doing.

"They always have something going on in the background."

Person of interest unable to provide alibi in William Tyrrell investigation

A person of interest in the police investigation into the disappearance of William Tyrrell has no-one to vouch for his whereabouts on the day the boy went missing.

Frank Abbott, who is currently in jail over the sexual assault of three children, was reportedly living in a caravan about 12km from the NSW town of Kendall where William disappeared seven years ago, according to a new media investigation that aired at the weekend.

Sunday’s 7 NEWS report The Disappearance of William Tyrrell revealed Mr Abbott was questioned by police about his movements on the day the boy vanished.

Mr Abbott was reportedly unable to provide an alibi, though he denies any involvement in the case.

Police have no firm suspect and no charges have been laid in the case.

There is no suggestion that Mr Abbott is involved in William Tyrrell’s disappearance, only that police asked for his assistance.

7NEWS understands that police are set to take out the AVO against both foster parents on behalf of someone that cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The matter is set to be heard in Hornsby Court next week.

The development comes as police begin a “high intensity” search for the three-year-old’s remains, more than seven years after his disappearance.

Car seized in William Tyrrell investigation was 'driven by his wealthy foster MUM on the morning he vanished' - as she's seen in her Land Rover after being named as a person of interest

A car seized by police searching for the remains of William Tyrrell was allegedly driven by his foster mother on the morning he vanished seven years ago.

Daily Mail Australia understands the Mazda hatchback, which once belonged to William's late foster grandmother, was allegedly driven by his foster mother on September 12, 2014 - the morning the three-year-old disappeared.

A NSW Police source said officers believe an object may have been thrown from the vehicle as it was driven along Batar Road at Kendall. That area is the middle of a massive forensic police search.

Daily Mail Australia has also learned the alleged unspecified object is part of the focus of forensic search currently underway for traces of William, about 700m from his foster grandmother's home.

The foster mother allegedly made the drive in her mother's car before her husband had returned to the house to join the search for William.

The foster father was away from the house having an online business meeting when William vanished.

This is one I always felt was not an abduction but then I usually feel that way but it was more than that... Location, story, etc...

New clue found despite heavy rains hampering search for William Tyrrell

A new clue has been extracted during a woodland search for William Tyrrell on the New South Wales Mid North Coast as police battle wet and soggy conditions.

The police search is now expected to continue until well into next month.

Police yesterday photographed and bagged a black piece of fabric located in the same area where two pieces of red string were unearthed just days ago.

The new piece of evidence has been sent away for testing.

The search for William Tyrrell’s remains on the NSW Mid North Coast could now take months, police say, with the wet weather drenching the state “becoming a real problem”.

Officers and specialist investigators are searching the area surrounding the home from which William disappeared seven years ago.

Police find new item of interest buried in muddy creek bed as they continue search for William Tyrrell

Police have unearthed a piece of faded red material buried in a muddy creek bed as they continue the search for William Tyrrell.

Investigators searching bushland near the Kendall home, where the three-year-old vanished from in September 2014, began digging through a new section of pumped-out creek on Monday.

As they raked through the mud, detectives discovered a piece of red fabric near the base of a tree shortly after 3.30pm, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The item was placed into an evidence bag and will be forensically examined to determine whether it is the same material as the red and blue Spider-Man costume the toddler was last seen in.

Search for William Tyrrell’s remains edging closer to foster grandmother’s home

Police and SES crews are continuing to scour bushland in the search for the remains of William Tyrrell.

A team of about 20 people was seen on Thursday on the eastern side of Batar Creek Rd in Kendall, NSW — less than one kilometre from where the renewed search originally started.

They are less than 500m away from where the three-year-old boy vanished in September 2014 from a home that belonged to his foster grandmother.

It appears a 20m strip is the focus of the search.

Earlier this week, investigators found a red piece of fabric, which was pulled from the drained creek bed.

William Tyrrell foster mother charged with additional count of common assault

The foster mother of missing toddler William Tyrrell has been charged with an additional count of common assault, which she will ask a magistrate to dismiss on mental health grounds, a court has heard.

William’s foster parents, who cannot be named, were charged in November last year with one count each of common assault, relating to the alleged assault of a child. That child, who is not William, was allegedly assaulted at a home in Sydney.

On Tuesday, a Local Court heard an additional charge of common assault has been laid against the foster mother.

The woman’s lawyer, Sharon Ramsden, said her client intends to enter pleas of not guilty to both counts and proceed to a hearing if she is unsuccessful in having the charges dismissed on mental health grounds.

Speaking at an inquest in 2020, the foster parents spoke of their devastation at William’s disappearance and the “disgraceful” accusations that they were somehow involved.

William’s biological family told the inquest they are also grieving and have been grieving since he vanished.

The case will return to court in April.

And the foster parents cannot be named why?? Seriously, why not? Adults were named in the other recent Australia cases...

As for "mental health grounds" I doubt she truly has any legal excuse that way as they'd have never been approved as foster parents if so right...?

They should absolutely be named! That way people will know to keep their kids away from them.
