Cook County, IL brothers, hoarders, arrested for burying bodies of mother and sister in their back yard - sister killed mom and then died of COVID

House smeared in feces. But at least they peed in bottles. That sister didn't die from COVID. Psh. They put them in plastic suits. I'm sure they bathed often. Mental evaluation. All the doctors tried to beat each other to say "NOT IT"!!!

This is one of the strangest cases I’ve seen, especially first thing in the morning! Interesting that law-enforcement took them straight to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
I'd say that was probably a good idea, based on the details from the article! Sister also had mental health issues. Sounds like these two have been on their own for some time. I wonder if the hoarding started before or after the deaths. No use of running water for years? Sounds like they didn't have a good grasp on how to care for themselves. If indeed they are telling the truth about how the deaths occurred, I hope they can get the help they clearly need and can live somewhere safe and clean.

The brothers, who were said to have physical and mental health issues, had to exit their home through a window because of the clutter inside blocking the doors.

Before their arrest, the brothers had been taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for medical treatment were they went through mental health evaluations, Herion said.

They were later discharged and put up in a hotel, but walked over to their house, still wearing blue hospital gowns, to speak to reporters after seeing news reports on television about the impending excavation in their backyard.

i would say it's somewhat safe to assume that the one that hadn't been seen in a year is the very pale one?

Look, they said their mom was pushed down the stairs. I dunno, the whole situation needs a deeper dive before I'll believe these two are completely innocent due to mental illness.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office released the brothers Monday after holding them for 48 hours without filing charges. The medical examiner's office has not determined a cause of death for the two women whose bodies were found at the home on Saturday.

By the sister who is dead and buried in the back yard also. They stated she died of COVID in 2019. Uh no she didn't. In 2019?. You just told on yourself.

No problem with that. Just 2 unstable individuals walking around, Who are now homeless because I am sure they condemned that house.

I was a psych major in college. They didn't teach this type of stuff.
Two bodies in the back yard. Are there more in the house?
I hope not. I think in this case probably not. I don't think they used the yard because they ran out of room.

An update on this case.

Brothers Face Charges After Remains of Mother, Sister Found in Yard of Lyons Home Last Summer

Two brothers who told authorities their mother and sister were buried in a suburban Lyons backyard are now facing charges in connection with their deaths, authorities announced Thursday.

According to police, Michael and John Lelko are currently in custody and facing several charges in connection with the case, which began last summer when human remains were found in the yard of a house that the two brothers were living in.

Michael Lelko is facing charges of concealment of a death, and is expected to face federal charges in connection to Social Security checks, which the brothers allegedly continued to cash even after their mother died in 2015.

John Lelko is also potentially facing charges.

Michael then identified where the bodies were buried, and officers exhumed the remains and sent them to the coroner's office for identification.

According to officials, that process took several months, with DNA samples taken from the brothers matching that of both victims in the case.

Authorities were not able to determine a cause of death, according to officials.

Herion said Lelko was not charged in the deaths of 79-year-old Jean Lelko and 44-year-old Jennifer Lelko, since the medical examiner's office could not determine how either one died.
