O.K. So what about the renter of the storage unit?. You have a body in your unit. In a storage container. Don't suppose you know anything?. Am I missing something here?.
Good catch. What is the rest of the story? Was there an arrest, who rented the unit? Who do they say she was and the reason she was in there?

It’s totally going to depend on what’s written in the law. Are you responsible for what’s in your storage unit?

I would also think it would depend on any forensics that would either include or exclude the owner of the unit such as fingerprints/dna that might be on the outside of the container, etc.

Still, whoever rents the unit would be questioned, no? Regarding who had access, if the padlock/combo, etc. was the same and it is theirs, then they had entry capability solely, or questioned as to how anyone else could have gained access... Storage units here are pretty basic and you put a lock on your own (even the landlord cannot enter and does not unless you are behind on payment and notice is given) and most are entered through their own exterior door, like a mini garage. However, in like the Vallow case, they had video surveillance and the units were individual but they were INSIDE another building. Only the renter has access in most cases, or anyone they allow to enter.

I guess unless I missed something, it may not be enough to convict someone but the renter of the unit would certainly be the prime suspect or someone he provided access to and would be questioned. They also would look at if anyone was dead or missing that that renter knew...

You would think. And I would think a dead body being in your unit would be enough.

A perp will tell you they lent the key to everyone in town.
exactly. That's why we can't assume that it's the owner of the unit that is guilty. Many times the listed owner of the unit is often not even the person that uses the unit. When our kid moved back in we had to get a small unit for her stuff and it was in our name yet it was only her stuff in it.
