Colorado City police issue AMBER Alert for missing baby boy

Colorado City police issued an AMBER Alert for a missing baby boy.

Police are looking for 14-month-old Klay Guzman.

He's a white male, 2'6" tall, 30 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

Klay was last seen around 12 a.m. Wednesday in the 2300 block of N Hwy 208 in Colorado City.

Police believe he was taken by Matthew Guzman.

Matthew Guzman is described as a 28-year-old white male, 5'10" tall, 200 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

They are believed to be traveling in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with Texas license plate HKB4110.

Prayers this child is found safe.

Most Amber Alerts in the past few months lately seem to be relatives or parents. Always more hope I feel when a parent rather than a stranger--not always the case, but hopefully. Something has apparently changed with Amber Alert criteria.

Again, I pray this baby is found safe. So young.

Klay was allegedly abducted by his father, Matthew Guzman, on August 19, 2020. A felony warrant for Custodial Interference was issued for Matthew on August 20, 2020.

Police said Matthew Guzman took the child after a physical altercation with his estranged wife.

Matthew Guzman is accused of talking his way into her home and then choking her.

The mother has custody of Klay.

"We think he could probably be in danger," said Colorado City Police Chief Charles Rice. "Mr. Guzman is not bring back and he's not giving up the child and telling us where he's at. So (Klay) very well could be in serious danger."

So the parents were married, at least at one point and together. The child is not that old. Even though this is indicative of danger, domestic abuse and a volatile person, I HOPE it may also mean he is just upset over losing his son or not living with him full time as perhaps he did prior and will take care of him.. In no way am I sure of that, I just HOPE so and am praying... The father has not been found either without the child so one can still hope...

Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, police got word that Matthew Guzman was in the 500 block of E Harris Ave and wanted to turn himself in.

Officers responded and made contact with Guzman who had Klay with him.

Police said Klay -- who was in good health -- was turned over to family.
