3-year-old Kansas City area girl found dead after father says he woke up and she was gone

Olivia Jansen had been missing since at least 6:30 a.m. Friday. Police do not have information on a possible suspect or vehicle

Amber Alert for 3-year-old girl from Kansas City, Kansas

An Amber Alert has been activated for a 3-year-old girl from Kansas City, Kansas.

Oliva Jansen is 3 feet tall. She weighs about 50 pounds and has brown hair and blue-green eyes. She was last seen wearing her pajamas, which included a pink top and purple or teal bottom. Her hair was in a ponytail, according to the Amber Alert.

Oliva’s father told police he woke up at 6:30 Friday morning and discovered she wasn’t in her bed and wasn’t inside their home. The back door of the house was open.

“Due to her age and a search of the area, investigators believe that she was taken from the location,” the Amber Alert states.

There is no known suspect or suspect vehicle at this time.

At 6:30 AM this morning, the father of Olivia woke up and discovered that she was not in the residence and the back door of the location was standing open. Due to her age and a search of the area, investigators believe that she was taken from the location. There is no known suspect at this time and no known suspect vehicle.

All i know is that if it was my kid, i wouldn't have waited 3 hours to go to the station to report her missing. Maybe a good 20 minutes to cover all bases and make a few phone calls to see if, just in case, somebody they knew had her. I would be too much of a blubbery mess to go anywhere and I am not one to turn into a blubbery mess in most situations.

Yes, she is the age that it is totally plausible that she got out on her own. It's the time inbetween that and notifying that gets me. Language barrier?
 
I'm wondering about the open door (front or back) and what kind of lock was on it. Was there a deadbolt or a door knob with the lock on it?
Could Olivia first of all reach the lock and secondly did she know how to open it? Does the dad remember if he locked the door the night before? Was the door kicked open or jimmied open?

If the police have answers to these questions it may be the reason they are pretty sure she was taken.

I agree. That seems like a long time but I am still confused some as LE says there was a call and then he (sounds like the father) came in.

She is wayyyyyy too young not to panic immediately and call for help.

I would like to know who all lived in the home. Was it just her and dad? Were there other children? A significant other? Did he have this child all of the time? What was the night before like? What was the day before like? Who put her in pjs and put her to bed? And the all important question in all cases, when was the last time someone outside of family saw her?

I myself do not see a stranger abduction here. I could see a neighbor or someone not closely connected but not a random stranger. They would have to know too many things...

The way it was worded in the first presser specifically said it was walked in with absolutely no mention of a phone call. I can't find a video of it anywhere. The only one I can find so far is the afternoon presser. It was KCKPD that was doing the talking live, so we can't blame it on bad reporting. The media officer had info as to the walked in part, you would think one of his first questions to the officer that was giving him the info to report was if a call was made and to report that also. That is what immediately caught my attention when the missing child alert first came on tv and then the presser shortly after that. Amber Alert wasn't issued until a few hours after that.

She will be 4 in December, so closer to 4, but not by a ton.

I mean if I saw a missing 3 year old, I am calling 911, not looking for a landline non emergency number... While I might lose sight, etc...

All of the back of the house, somebody could easily be watching without the people inside even knowing.

We put up cameras a few years ago after losing a LOT of hunting gear one night. Let me tell you, we have what could be a similar area behind my house and I never realized how many people pass through there at night. I was totally unaware of the amount. i knew occasionally there were people back there, but was ignorant to the numbers. I will not ever discount "random stranger" in most cases anymore because of it, too.

Not saying that is what or what didn't happen here, just sharing a rather eye opening moment for me when i have a similar layout in my back yard.

Has there been a custody issue with her? Did she primarily live with the dad? Is mom in the picture? So many questions!

I do get that and definitely do not discount it. And there certainly are some nuts that would do anything without thinking as well. To me, that is still in a sense someone that was watching, almost like a neighbor... I mean more of a come to town just that day, no clue if a child in the house nor where they sleep nor habits... Pick a house at random, etc. Or find her on the street and commit a crime of opportunity, seems unlikely to me. That kind of stranger. There was that one in the south not long ago, I wish I remembered her name and it was a neighbor who had his eye on her and probably stalked around through the back yard. She got off the bus, met by her mom, was playing outside a short time later and disappeared out of their front yard.

I think at minimum there is likely to be some connection, a neighbor (even if unknown), friend, customer... Etc.

Most 3 1/2 year olds would have the ability to open the door by themselves and make it quite a distance, so it is *possible*, but not likely with that busy street and nobody noticing and them not finding her behind the house, either.

Custody did cross my mind, we have seen several lately. It also crossed my mind a grandmother or aunt and uncle could live nearby, not that unusual. I think it notable that only the father has been mentioned.
 
My granddaughter at the age of 3 or 4 could cross a field with her older brother to go to another relatives and was well aware of it. Of course she was not to unless both ends knew they were coming, and only together, etc. Of course that is more farm type country and they are basically adjoining properties... Could the child have headed back to mom's or something...? But then why not let LE know...
