WY GREYBULL RIVER JOHN DOE: M, 18-26, found in river near Basin, WY - 10 July 1973- Case Reopened 2026, Distinctive gold ring

In the summer of 1973, the body of a male was found floating in the Greybull River. Cause of death was undetermined. It was estimated he had been in the water for several days. With advances in DNA technology, the case is being reopened. Little remains of the original case file, but what is known is this:

Approximate Age 18-26 years estimated
Height 5 ft 6 in.
Weight: 150-160 lbs.
Brown Hair
Brown Eyes
Reddish Mustache
Clothing: blue and white cutoffs, possibly also a polo shirt

Leather "moccasins" similar to Sperry topsiders were found on the riverbank. Also found on the riverbank were 17 Marlboro cigarettes, and a distinctive gold ring. The ring has no jeweler's marks and is therefore untraceable, if it was a custom made piece. The ring had the head of a bird, a diamond, and the initials MK. Prescription Ray-Ban sunglasses were also found.

His cigarettes don't look like they were water damaged.

He's not listed with NamUs or DoeNetwork.
No missing persons reports that I can find in Wyoming seem to match up. Also looked in nearby Montana and didn't have anything stand out.

Authorities in 1973 believed that John Doe may, maybe, have been working in WY just for the summer. He could be from anywhere.
