They've identified a person of interest, but haven't captured him yet.

Its all very Secret Squirrel.

As investigators believe they now know the identity of the Brown University mass shooting suspect, law enforcement officials said, they’re faced with two options that could both help and hinder the manhunt as it enters day six: whether to release the person’s photo and name.
Over the past day and a half, investigators said they pulled together a number of leads and threads of information pointing to a particular suspect in the shooting.
The development makes a major difference in the investigation because authorities now know who they’re searching for in the expansive manhunt and have obtained a warrant for the person’s arrest, which means any law enforcement officer who encounters him has the authority to take them into custody.
Authorities now have to make the complex decision whether to announce who their suspect is and ask for the public’s help in keeping eyes out for that person, but either option has an upside and downside.
If they release the person’s identity and the suspect becomes aware that they’re being searched for, they could become a flight risk or a danger to others, among other possibilities that complicate a manhunt. If they don’t release the identity, they have fewer eyes out looking for the person, which could make the search more difficult.
A news conference held by Providence officials that was previously scheduled for 4 p.m. ET to provide an update was delayed, which points to the early and dynamic stage the investigation is currently in.

Police have interviewed man believed to have been “in proximity” to person of interest

From CNN's Brian Todd
A man who was believed to have been “in proximity” to a person of interest being sought by police in connection with the Brown University shooting has been found and interviewed by law enforcement, Providence Police Major David Lapatin told CNN.
“He’s not a suspect,” Lapatin said.
The major did not elaborate on what was discussed during the interview.

That's what they said the first time. "We are confident that he was the shooter" was touted with the first guy.
yeah, probably why they weren't announcing too quickly but there was supposedly a press conference coming. I gave up on waiting for it though. It was like waiting for the Reiner arraignment TWICE now, took HOURS past the scheduled times. When live I mean in that case but that's what this was too, one must have been announced but it was being waited for and waited for and waited for. Not even sure if it ever happened but haven't read through things past my post yet, answered yours as the first one so maybe it is already known?

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A man who is suspected of killing two and wounding several others at Brown University has been found dead in a New Hampshire storage facility, a law enforcement official and a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.

The man was found dead Thursday evening. He is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the person familiar with the matter said.

The deceased suspect was identified as Claudio Valente, a 48-year-old Brown University student and Portuguese national, Providence Police Chief Oscar L. Perez, Jr. said during a news conference on Thursday.

I don't even have it in me to figure out what that link is saying. So the "suspect" is dead it says. I never heard a suspect named. And only heard there was a POI and a presser coming. What the he77 is this? And just a couple of hours ago when I said that no one had even heard it NOR had any presser happened in what I was watching... And never once did I hear the word suspect. I'm tired, I am going to go watch something and head for bed.

I gave up waiting for the presser, maybe after that this all came out and I missed it, and hten that fast there was a car, and then a storage unit, and then found dead. that's very likely but don't have it in me to catch up with the rest right now. And they must have finally called him a suspect too and I didn't see that either.

I'm suspecting I brought the hint of the news but then I didn't stick it out but in the meantime more news came and the rest of ya saw it so I probably just need to catch up tomorrow lol. it's beyond me right now.

I do have to say thought that CNN thing is beyond confusing before reading two various things in.

I'm watching Police Off the Cuff to get a good recap of the Brown thing. I'll never catch up otherwise.

Here's a maddening thing. At first one was going on about Brown with over a 9 billion dollar endowment didn't have more security cameras and better security and a system, etc. But then the guest says actually there were more but some student union made them take them down, complaining there were way too many cameras. #$^@!! I guess this has happened at other universities as well. When did faculty stop running schools?

And the students, do they wish they had had more cameras now? What is more important, your safety or your privacy while ON CAMPUS?

The homeless guy had BETTER get the reward.

Did I hear correctly, I heard somewhere he was living in a basement of a building at the U, maybe even THAT building? I only heard that once and can't recall where...
