California authorities launch search for girl who hasn’t been seen in at least 1 year​

Authorities in Santa Barbara County launched a search for a 9-year-old girl who has not been seen in a year, and who has not been seen in a photograph in two.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Melodee Buzzard on Tuesday after a school administrator reported she hadn’t been at school in quite some time.

Deputies attempted to contact Melodee and her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, at their home in Lompoc, but the elementary school student was not there, and “no clear explanation was provided for her whereabouts.”

Although the missing persons case is only one-day-old, detectives have been unable to confirm a single recent sighting in about a year. The most recent photograph they were able to locate was taken at least two years ago, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about Melodee, potential sightings or contact in the past year, to come forward.

“Even small details may be critical in helping investigators ensure her safety,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.

I am sure he is supposed to have it registered in CA, but so many don't if they have somewhere else they can register it because of taxes and fees. They have had many politicians get caught doing this even there.

Look at the D4VD case. He had his registered in Texas, just for one example.

Take a stroll down nearly any street in CA on street view and you will see plenty of out of state plates on many newer cars and you know most of those people live in CA. The costs make's it worth it, evidently.

Well he himself is talking about his OK plates in the interview so yeah, I'd assume it's his and he is the one who hasn't switched it to CA.

Believe me, I'd resist most things CA myself... Highest state sales tax or one of them, ridiculous trucking regulations, solar panels on housing and so very much more.
 
I've been thinking about how she told him she knew people were comparing her to Casey Anthony... Now it's posssible he or someone told her that... He didn't say that but who knows... LE could have also told her that when trying to question her, etc... My thought was she'd been online.. I have seen it said in comments and YT chats... If she is so paranoid though about being tapped by LE and things like that, odd she'd go online.... He said the one day she was deleting her accounts and such like Amazon and so on... So that means she was online then.... What is she doing in that house though if she isn't going online...? Reading books or watching TV...

I'm just trying to trigger some thoughts...

I wonder if she likes the "fame"... I was under the impression she doesn't and hates the attention, the news, the interest, the posters... But I wonder...

Clearly she isn't close to anyone it would seem because she had to give him keys to her storage locker and home to clear them out if she ended up in jail...

She doesn't trust her own family it sounds like as she said she'd rather see MB in foster care or a group home than with them... What else would she do to keep MB from the families...

She is packing up, etc. but where will she go...

She said she had a shopping addiction...

Why is she worried about cops seeing her online shopping activity and bank info, etc...

Of course if she has mental issues who knows what or how she thinks... But on the face of it, it would seem she has something to hide to worry about those things...

The part that worried me the most is that it sounds like she will go to jail before telling where MB is... That doesn't bode well...

Not helping, I thought maybe "talking" some of this out would bring some thoughts but it isn't...

That trip... Claims of a couple at a zoo... I wonder if they can go back in her say Uber history to see if and when she went to a zoo or IF she ever did in the recent past months, etc... IF such is even true, doubtful...

She claimed this couple directed that trip and they kept moving the meeting place which is why she drove here and then there and so on. It ALMOST fits as she did take a long trip and MB was with her on the way back, for part of it at least...She said the couple was paranoid about the govt. but reportedly she is as well and that's odd...

I too keep thinking of cults or religion and the cases we've seen relating to UT, ID, etc... We have no indication there is anything like that in her life though but what does she DO? She doesn't work apparently, she claims she is not a partier, seems to have no friends, isn't close to family, isn't raising MB now anyhow... Has a shopping addiction... She is always made up when she leaves the house... I mean it isn't hard to stay home if you are on the computer, order your groceries in, watch TV, read, and so on but if she's paranoid about them knowing what she does...

You know, I'd think her introverted but hearing her voice on the recording with Tyler i wouldn't call her shy or awkward at all... Not dumb by any means...

I'll stop. I was hoping to trigger some thoughts but it isn't working... I woke up thinking about it all so...

Yes, at 18. Older daughter wouldn't be the same dad so there'd be no social plus she was taken away from her so no, she couldn't collect for the older one.

He said 22, give or take, thereabouts.

It's a fed payt. not a state payt, not that it matters but yes, if MB is dead, it is fraud to keep collecting if she knows that.

IF Ashlee receives disability for a mental illness, she could get SSI for minor kids, too. But Destiny is way too old for Ashlee to receive it. Plus, didn’t I read that somebody else raised Destiny, for the most part?

Destiny is not mentioned in Melodee’s dad’s obit. Due to that fact, and the fact that there is a huge age gap between them, I imagine Destiny has a different father.
 
What I don't get is why go through enrolling Melodee in this online school program and then not even log into it?
Was somebody out for her in getting Melodee into school?
Did she do these road trips so often and so she could do her school work while not at home? If this, we go back to why not even log in?
This not logging in is how the school district rang the alarm. What kept her from doing such?
 
Didn't she enroll her the year before or do I have that wrong? Meaning she did do the online thing already for a year but didn't do it this year after enrolling for it? I MAY have this wrong, unsure. In the beginning things and dates were so confusing...

So was she IN school in any of the years before this i wonder... I watch a lot of things where some parents home school. Parents may like the flexibility and they can take the child on trips, even field trips for learning and so on or take a day off. It would depend on how flexiblel this program was and the State.e

The PI said this kind of trip was not unusual for Ashley, she'd done such before BUT I have no idea if he has solid info supporting that statement.

I guess she may have enrollled her as they needed to know (the school) or required they know but then did not folllow through but what was the reason??? We don't know.
 
I just want to know why Ashlee hasn’t been arrested for the inability to produce Melodee for a wellness check. There isn’t such a law in California to protect children?

From what I heard in some show if I recall, there is an option or two, but it is not like the one in ID they got Lori on but who knows, I can't recall specifically. I do think they need to ENACT laws in every state that would force a parent to produce a child. I am a big believer in parental rights, however, if you can't provide proof of life, I think then something should be done and there should be the ability for something to be done about it. So long as the reason for it isn't to unfairly take the child away.

It's a touchy area imo. And Cali has had some really bad cases of taking and adopting out children even where it should never have been done imo. The West boys would be just one example. CPS/DCF have come under fire in many an area and rightly so in most imo.

Parental rights used to be and still are in many a case very hard to terminate. And I think in most cases they should be. I mean how many parents have wanted to end the rights of the other parent and it is not something easily done, and I think for a good reason.

I kind of went off subject there but I just think it is a tough area of the law or a touchy one. In this case, we know MB was alive right up to October. AB apparently raised her to 9 years of age without issue and healthy too despite the couple of stories we have heard of mental issues, etc. but they were some years back.

I do think though she should have to show proof of life at minimum when no evidence of schooling was shown.

I did have hope in this one but the more she resists, the more I worry. I can only hope she is scared she will lose her and so she hid her with someone, somehow.

Not sure what the answer is with regard to laws but there definitely need to be some to make someone like her show at least proof of life and that MB is safe.

I do think they need to do something and they need to find a way and a law to be able to do so. if I recall, they were stuck in Daybell too and Rob Wood or a team, can't recall, started looking at little known laws to see if there was ANYTHING they could charge Lori with and lo and behold they found something... They aren't up on every law and ones often unused is how I recall it... He did an interview, possibly with Nate, where I recall hearing something like that...

How can law-enforcement let this continue? Do they think it’s a recovery effort now and it doesn’t matter anymore? Do they think they have all the time in the world or something? It just infuriates me.

me too. constantly. if she hasn't led them to her yet by taps or surveillance, etc., then she is not going to. she gave the tyler guy her keys in case she was arrested over Melodee and was in jail for a long time/charged so that shows she has NO INTENT of cooperating with LE as to her whereabouts. it also shows possibly there is something she thinks they can charge her with (hopefully not her death). so from all indications, twiddling their thumbs and hoping for a miracle or something to land in their laps is not going to happen!

I GUESS they could still be going through locations where she was and gathering info and perhaps there are searches in these other states but we sure the heck haven't heard of any!

I think 60 days is the magic number for ss admin to get involved. Let's hope they do.
