California authorities launch search for girl who hasn’t been seen in at least 1 year​

Authorities in Santa Barbara County launched a search for a 9-year-old girl who has not been seen in a year, and who has not been seen in a photograph in two.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Melodee Buzzard on Tuesday after a school administrator reported she hadn’t been at school in quite some time.

Deputies attempted to contact Melodee and her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, at their home in Lompoc, but the elementary school student was not there, and “no clear explanation was provided for her whereabouts.”

Although the missing persons case is only one-day-old, detectives have been unable to confirm a single recent sighting in about a year. The most recent photograph they were able to locate was taken at least two years ago, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about Melodee, potential sightings or contact in the past year, to come forward.

“Even small details may be critical in helping investigators ensure her safety,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.

Yeah I am getting more worried than I was the longer it goes on... I really feel/felt she was alive but am having doubts. I mean who would keep her hidden for her? This long.

If it was posters, maybe she just had the ones she was on camera taking down all together for some reason? If it was pictures, then it's obvious that she has plenty of pics of her.

My thought is she just cut the pictures out of the posters as she didn't want to toss pics of her daughter, but she didn't want the poster saying she was "missing" and such stuff on it.

The fake plates means she was definitely up to something she didn't want to be connected with or seen at. Not sure what though, but definitely not anything good.

I hope and think the same but nagging doubts are starting to come in. I think because she still has not been found.

Garcia talks like taking these kinds of trips and renting a car was "typical" for her... I'm not sure I believe that. Not sure where he gets that idea either.

Interesting article! So, AB didn't give the recording to LE, LE discovered it when they were downloading her phone for a search warrant! Also, AB had a roommate in 2014. But, that was before Melodee was born, so there's not much to glean there, other than I wonder if AB showed signs of mental illness back then? '

Another thing to note, I've heard it reported more than once that AB has another child who was raised by her father and hasn't been in AB's life in years. Again, I wonder if this is in result of AB having a mental illness.

It breaks my heart. Melodee should have been checked on regularly, if she should have even been under AB's care at all!

Yes, I caught that. I just thought she turned in her own recording, not that LE found it on their own. I wonder if she talks much at all?

I did link the recording in a previous post. She talks a lot in it. It was interesting since we have never heard her say a word before.

I'll have to check it out. I didn't know about it until this morning and haven't been in a place to listen yet.

Now, not only do we have her changing license plates on her road trip, we now know she had TWO phones in her purse.
I will give her credit that one MIGHT just be one she uses for pics, recordings, apps that doesn't have phone capabilities, but I doubt that. I say that because I have my old, deactivated phone that I am using for a few apps around the house that only require my wifi and when we go ON the water at the lake to take pics and stuff so if what I'm using takes a dive to the bottom of the lake, it's not my activated phone. I seriously doubt that is why SHE had two phones though.

If he had only seen her a few times lately, there is no other real reasib for him to have them. Or maybe he was the one that retrieved them back from LE after they used them.

Yes, but what dates to match up? We don't know the other dates he was there other than this was his 5th visit.

He was there five times and I think it was November 1st through the 6th so basically a visit every day of that time period.

I thought that was odd, too. I finally got to listen to the recording tonight. I was wondering what that was all about with the keys.

While I don't think things escalated quite the way Tyler presented, if you listen to that recording he definitely does ask to be allowed to leave on multiple occasions, so it seems she was at least blocking his way out. Otherwise, why would he be asking for permission to leave - multiple times? If you want to leave somebody's house because they are making you uncomfortable, you leave if you aren't being blocked and you don't ask for permission to be allowed to leave.
