Three missing girls in Wenatchee found dead, father still missing

Three missing girls in the Wenatchee area were found dead, according to the Wenatchee Police Department.

According to the police department, police responded to reports of a civil complaint when the mom of three young girls reported that her daughters did not return after a planned visitation with their father.

Police said Decker was believed to be living out of a white 2017 GMC Sierra pickup, which was last seen heading west on Highway 2 from Wenatchee on May 30.

WSP was contacted Friday night for an Amber Alert request, but Wenatchee Police said it did not meet the required criteria, and an Endangered Missing Person Alert was issued.

Law enforcement eventually found Decker's car unoccupied near the Rock Island Campground.

Other officers searched the immediate area and found the bodies of the three missing girls.

Decker is wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping. Police do not know if Decker is currently armed, but he may still pose a significant risk, according to police.

Oh man. Another case where “ if he can’t have them then she can’t have them either.”

$#%£!
Gets old and discouraging doesn't it? Dead kids. I never get over it.

I think it may have been about support and control. Who knows? I know I'll never be able to think as someone like that must. It's impossible.

I just wondered the same. Maybe he tied it in the campground, wouldn't want it following him? Hard to say.
I cannot believe he spared his dog but not the kids. Perhaps while he was zip tying and killing the kids, the dog had the sense to escape the a'hole. Hopefully he has the sense to jump of a cliff asap.

I noticed that Nate did an article on this tragedy. Quite a lot of info in here that I hadn't heard before.

It is a long article so I will only paste the detail I had not read before.

The former military member also has “extensive tactical training,” according to the US Marshals, which is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to Decker’s arrest.
Travis Decker is a former US Army infantryman and staff sergeant with eight years of service, including five months in Afghanistan, according to a US Army spokesperson. He is currently a member of the Washington National Guard but is in the midst of a disciplinary process of being discharged because of missed drills, the National Guard confirmed to CNN.
As the manhunt continues, the sheriff’s office has advised residents in neighboring counties to lock their doors, including on outbuildings and sheds, and leave their outdoor lights on and their blinds open.
Travis Decker was experiencing homelessness, living in his car, motels or camping locally, his ex-wife told police. His dog and daughters “are the two big positives in his life,” she said, according to the affidavit.
“He was very active with their extracurricular activities, their dance, their soccer games, all of those things. He was very involved,” Cozart said.
But there were concerns. Whitney told police that near the end of their marriage, her ex-husband was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and she did not think he was taking his medication, according to the police affidavit.
In September 2024, a judge granted Whitney and Decker a parenting plan with limitations after an incident in which Decker kept the girls overnight at a homeless shelter and allowed them to go to a corner store unsupervised, according to Cozart.
The new parenting plan included a psychiatric evaluation for Travis Decker, mandatory mental health counseling, and a domestic violence evaluation, according to court documents. He was permitted to see the children every other weekend.
Travis Decker had “displayed some volatile behaviors that seemed concerning towards Whitney, never towards the girls,” Cozart said.
His ex-wife believes the tragedy may have been prevented if Travis Decker had better access to mental health support as a veteran, Cozart said, pointing to well-documented barriers to accessing adequate resources for veterans struggling with issues including post-traumatic disorder.
Central WA Veterans Counseling, a local agency serving veterans, believes that if Travis Decker had sought their help, he would have been redirected elsewhere or placed on a waitlist due to a lack of funding and a shortage of alternative resources to adequately support veterans in the region.
“This isn’t a hidden crisis—we’ve been vocal about it in the media and with local, state, and federal officials,” the group said in a statement.
It’s unclear whether Travis Decker was seeking help for the mental health issues outlined in the police report. CNN has reached out to the US Department of Veterans Affairs for information.

He didn't take out the wife either, many of them mod, but we sure know of ones that don't, almost seems like they want them to live and hurt with all the loss sometimes. Hard to know how he was thinking here or if any all think the same.

I don't want to speculate too much but some types I think are actually jealous of their children, one thought, them having it better than he feels he did or does. They also represent child support, a lot of it for three and years to come. Sounds too practical but that is increasing debt for years to come. Wife wasn't herself cost him anything. Dog maybe he felt was more like him, no home, no life. Dog a companion, plus most will eat anything and perhaps people always were willing to buy or give him food for the dog, I can see that being the case.

Maybe also there was not a good opportunity re the wife who was not with him alone and that would mean he even more knew what he was doing.

But I don't know any of that, just some thoughts and I could be way off. Let's remember this guy looked into Canada and going on the run, sounds like preplanning. That's like AWOL or would be if still in the service which one would think he'd be against, and being in Canada would lose him any benefits ever if he had such.

He needs to be found or caught first I'd say. Finding out what he was thinking we are a long way from I think, and may never understand of course.

He is present basically to fight her over the kids but then he gets to see them and does this. It's just a big smh overall. It makes me thin of Doerman who hunted down and shot his three boys at his own home, never his wife who was there. This one though ran, that one sat there calmly and smoked and awaited arrest almost? What is it the kids are representing to them or what is it they are doing and the reason? It always hurts the mother forever after is my first thought generally. They also make it not easy to leave or just be free because no matter what it will cost them. I have no idea. Like I said, not going to go too far into thought as like any of us, I have no idea. He did seem to be planning though in this case...

One thing is for sure, in either case, the mother is caused heartbreak forever whether they are around or not. In this one if he got away, his ties were ended and mom hurt forever. We know he was planning to go it seems. In a way, so far, sick as it is, it worked so far for him in that he has not been captured. In one fell swoop, he destroyed family or responsibility one way or another. Forever. And he is still free. He may think clearer than we know, just not in a way most of us would ever think. So far in his head he hasn't lost maybe.

Who knows though? I can't think like someone like that even if we knew how he was thinking so I'd better leave it at that. Maybe one day we will hear more. Right now, he is a very dangerous man to be on the loose and I am glad they are not hiding that and are telling people to stay vigilant and lock their doors. They need to find him and get him into custody. We could talk circles I'm sure but aren't going to reach answers most likely.

What I try to stay away from are these girls' last moments/thoughts of such. I mean it was intentional no matter his frame of mind or reasons. THREE of them. As in all cases, it should be about them but right now it needs to be about capturing him.

Jmo.

Interesting. So he was active but missing required duties and about to be disciplined and discharged. Never bad to the kids but towards her at times, involved in their activities. Personally, I think she's a bit too forgiving.

The part about he'd have probably been on a waiting list and there are issues with help for veterans, probably true.

As for as personality disorders, they did not used to be a thing. I don't have a solid opinion on such. One day maybe I will but as Mel would say it's no excuse for what he did. Plenty have them and do no such thing. The wife seems to just (I meant ex) take this as a reason as well. I'm nowhere near where I'd excuse like that, sorry, just not me at all. He was planning to escape and that to me says a lot.

I really wonder how this man was the rest of his life, and if he was ever responsible. I somehow doubt it, even with the glue of a family and a marriage, I'd almost betas a lot of it was her.

The military was readying to discipline him. I wonder what his overall record was like.

Clearly also, we know he had major falling outs with his own family over time.

It is some new info, much appreciated.

Travis Decker manhunt: Focus shifts near WA's Blewett Pass

Law enforcement is focusing its search forTravis Decker, the man accused of killing his three young daughters.

Late Monday night, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office said authorities were searching for Decker in the Ingalls Creek and Valley High as he is believed to potentially be in this area.

Residents are being asked to secure their homes, vehicles and stay alert. Deputies are warning people living or visiting the area that they may see an increase in law enforcement.

6:30 a.m.: Kittitas County assisting Chelan County

Law enforcement has narrowed their search for Decker to the Ingalls Creek area, just north of North Fork Teanaway Road trails. The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office, has deployed its deputies and tactical teams to patrol the area.

These areas are SOUTH of Leavenworth / Icicle Creek, not north as was suspected.
Also not terribly far away. I’ll post a map later but wouldn’t expect someone moving with purpose / a destination in mind to still be in this area.

Interesting also. Of course they may want him to think one thing versus another.

However, it wouldn't be surprising if he felt he could not move far, pretty quickly what he did was known.

I wonder what they are going by/using. To talk as if they know where he likely still is.... It is probably best the public and perps don't know. I have thought of like the heat seeking things but doesn't seem it would tell them, not sure. He'd be dumb to have a cell phone on him... If sightings, or he asked someone for help, and so on, would they tell us? Hard to say I guess. I do feel they aren't going to share all with the public if they want to capture him.

It's so hard that these girls are the big thing but like in all cases, they can hardly be thought of as it is all about him. He does need to be captured though and I just don't think they'd share all to try to do that. They may want him to think they think him elsewhere while they circle in where he is really at. Who knows.

And if it is a lie for that reason, I'm good with it. The man IS dangerous clearly.

Pretty sure his looking into going to Canada came before he was deep in his spiral and possibly not even thinking about his kids at all. Looking for work there doesn't sound like he would be in hiding like if he had planned on doing that after planning on killing his kids. Seems like this part wasn't part of his initial plan. Too bad he didn't keep the plan of going to Canada instead.

Yellow is the campground the girls were found at. Orange/red in the upper left is the Pacific Crest Trail, and the lower one is the Enchantments.

The blue triangle is the area they're in now. Closer to the two left points.
Bottom right is Blewett Pass. Upper is Ingalls Creek. Lower left is North Fork Teanaway Road, which they said they were a few miles north of. So my best guess is that they're in between those two left blue points now.

Even though he killed them there and then was thought to be on the very trail near where he killed them that could take him to either Canada or Mexico? Maybe, and could be, but not so sure myself. So he was going to lave the girls who mom says he was involved with, leave the US and any military help like the armory and more and abandon them all then with a well thought out looking for work kind of thing? Canada isn't like we are. Who they allow to immigrate and get decent jobs and citizenship are vetted where they might be a doctor or an accountant or someone who they think is of value. You don't just move up there and get a good job. AT least that's how the last I knew it was.

Not arguing, just saying doesn't seem like any solid plan to me and he still had support and other issues back here or would have. Along with disciplinary procedures coming and a discharge.

Don't know but I guess we might see at some point, and maybe not.

I wonder where the dog was found?
Additional info on the dog. Found at the campsite. Not sure if it was running free or in the truck.

Father’s dog found alive at campsite where 3 young daughters were found dead, officials say

But Decker’s dog was also found at the campsite, the sheriff’s office said. The dog was alive and taken to the humane society for care. Officials did not say if the dog was injured in any way.

Authorities believe they spotted ex-soldier Travis Decker, who is wanted in deaths of 3 daughters

Authorities say they believe they spotted Travis Decker, an ex-soldier wanted in the deaths of his three daughters, near a remote alpine lake in Washington state, after receiving a tip from hikers who said they saw a lone person who appeared to be ill-prepared for the conditions.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post Tuesday that tracking teams responded immediately, and a helicopter crew spotted a hiker near Colchuk Lake, in a popular Cascade Range backpacking area called The Enchantments.

What in the world is he doing? Colchuck Lake is probably THE most popular hiking trail in that area. If I was trying to avoid people, that would be the literal last place I would go.
Was he just hoping to "lay low" for a few weeks, until the search died down, and make his way out?
WHY? Why not get the heck out of there?

But was it even really him they saw?

Lots of interest in that article, dog and all. I try hard not to think of details here as to what was done to these poor girls or the dog. PeH rhaps he tried to take the dog out by strangling or suffocation but it didn't go so well. I hope to heck he got bit and it gets infected if he was harming the dog
,
I want to say every picture I see of these girls provided by mom they look so happy and well cared for, I it notable. Of course a picture can't tell all by any means but they look joyful and it stands out, in many.

I couldn't feel sorrier for this mom, felt the same in Doerman and in many but the excuses from both women for their hub I have real trouble with. One an ex and one a hub when it happened. It sounds here like the only time he saw active combat was in 2014 for four months and we don't know what his position was while there either, not all see the same things. That was along time ago. It says flat out in this article she blames the lack of his getting military services and help was what killed her girls. Now I have a REAL problem with that. HE he killed those girls. She said herself she thought he might be off his meds. They can't make him take them for one thing. And what's been going on in eleven years since he POSSIBLY dealt with active combat and other things? What made services too hard to get that he gave up? Our systems, most, are very hard to navigate, I don't disagree with that, but this isn't really adding up to me. She is making him basically not accountable. I remain sorry as heck for her but this is such denial and worse. I'm trying hard also that she was so worried about his behavior but she didn't try to deny all visits and not just overnight ones until he got help. Didn't work out did it and he can do the same during a day as he could overnight. And he DID. I'm sorry but women like these seem like total enablers, and when they do this after something like this, it's very hard to understand. She is flat out relieving him of any blame.

We actually know little about his mental health. Most comes from her. Employer said a thing or two, she knows he called his dad and brother and so on. We have no idea when and much more. That article too said he was looking up jobs in Canada just before the children were killed, a sign or could be of intentional planning. We don't know he doesn't do illegal drugs and things like that.

We can guess it very likely part of his check was going to back child support but they'd never take all. He was failing in the military where he'd put in was it eight years? He had a car but was not attending there either which would have also likely have given him an extra paycheck had he done so.

Per her as well, he tried to reach his brother and dad. Clearly they seemed done with him over something at some point in time and were not going to enable him. Beyond devastation I'd have outright black rage at a father who did this to his own children. And she basically releases him from all accountability almost instantly. SMDH. This part is not a subject I am going to be quiet about. Women like this also need help imo, big time.

We are far from knowing all that's for sure. I am remarking on things in this article. And he IS responsible, some disorder or not (allegedly at this point but IF he did this and is found guilty, and seems pretty darned obvious he likely did and now he's on the run).
