LA riots latest: Trump's border czar reveals bombshell truth about how LA riots started
12:47, 09 Jun 2025, updated 19:27, 09 Jun 2025By RACHEL BOWMAN and NATASHA ANDERSON FOR DAILYMAIL.COM
Donald Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, revealed that the raids that sparked the violent LA riots were not for immigration purposes.
Homan explained that the raids that took place in downtown Los Angeles on Friday were part of a criminal investigation into a money laundering scheme and cartel activity.
'It wasn’t an immigration raid. It was to service of three criminal warrants at locations based on a large criminal conspiracy that ICE is investigating,' Homan on MSNBC.
Chaos erupted after protesters clashed with immigration officials across downtown Los Angeles, leading to three days of violence.
Looters targeted businesses across the city amid the demonstrations, which saw cars torched and security forces firing tear gas at rioters.
California officials have been slammed for their handling of the riots as an understaffed police department struggles to quell the violence.
Donald Trump demanded on Sunday that both Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass apologize for the LA riots, insisting those involved are not 'peaceful protesters' as the duo had claimed, but instead 'troublemakers and insurrectionists.'
Newsom blamed Trump for chaos, insisting his deployment of the National Guard escalated tensions and threatened to sue the administration.
Police ordered the public to disperse from downtown overnight after an intense day of demonstrations in the region. Around 300 National Guard troops were deployed to the area, spurring anger and fear among many residents.

Border czar Tom Homan shares the real reason for raids that kicked off LA protests
Donald Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, revealed that the raids that ignited the LA protests were part of a thorough criminal investigation - not a random migrant round-up.
Homan explained on MSNBC that the raids that took place in downtown Los Angeles were the result of a criminal investigation into money laundering.
'That's why no one is talking about the Fashion District, it wasn’t an immigration raid. It was to service of three criminal warrants at locations based on a large criminal conspiracy that ICE is investigating,' Homan said.
'That has to do with money laundering, tax evasion and customs fraud where a company under-declared over $80 million in goods, failed to pay $17 million in fees. And it's part of an overall conspiracy on numerous businesses that they believe that some of this money is being laundered in Mexico and Colombia, the cartel activity.'
Homan noted the raids were no unsolicited migrant round-ups, but specific arrests were made based on warrants.
'So, this was a criminal investigation that they all responded to in the beginning. That's how it all started. But the facts never got out,' he said.

California Attorney General announces lawsuit over Trump's National Guard deployment
California Attorney General Rob Bonta annouced a lawsuit against the Trump Administration for 'unlawfully' deploying the National Guard.
'In the early hours of Sunday morning, President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth unlawfully federalized 2,000 California National Guard troops for 60 days with no indication as to when they intend to stand down,' Bonata said during a press conference Monday.
'They did so without authorization from Gov. Newsom and against the wishes of local law enforcement.'
He claimed the protests were 'mostly dissipated' when the National Guard troops arrived.
'Since Trump announced his plan to deploy troops, the situation on the ground has escalated quickly with unrest growing overnight, causing highways to close and putting people in danger,' Bonta said.
'We’ll never know what might have been had the president left our state and local authorities to continue the important work they were already doing and were more than capable of doing.'

Sonam Raghuvanshi: Missing Indian bride arrested for allegedly murdering husband on honeymoon
Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam were on their honeymoon in India's Meghalaya state when they went missing.www.bbc.com
The families of the couple had alleged that the bride had also either been killed or abducted and mounted a huge campaign to find her.
Police now allege that Sonam Raghuvanshi, 25, hired killers to murder her 30-year-old husband Raja during their trip to the tiny north-eastern state of Meghalaya. Four men have also been arrested.
Sonam's father Devi Singh has defended his daughter saying "she is innocent and she cannot do this".
"Their marriage was arranged four months back and they were both happy and there had been no fights between the couple before or after marriage," Raja's other brother Vipin Raghuvanshi said.
The couple left for Meghalaya on 20 May. But four days into their trip, they went missing.
A week later, Raja's decomposed body was found in a gorge with his throat slit and his wallet, a gold ring and a chain missing. And Sonam had disappeared without a trace.
But on Monday morning, Director General of Meghalaya police Idashisha Nongrang said Sonam had surrendered at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district.
Three other suspects, who are also from the couple's home state Madhya Pradesh, have been arrested in overnight raids, DGP Nongrang said.
He did not give any motive for Raja's murder but described Sonam "as the main suspect".
In response to a reporter's question on "whether Sonam was in an extra-marital relationship with one of the arrested men", Mr Syeim said "if you join the dots, then it would seem like it". But he added that these details could be verified only after the two were questioned.
Mr Singh said he had not been able to speak to his daughter but he believed that she had "somehow managed to escape her captors" and insisted that she was "innocent".
Mr Singh also accused the Meghalaya police of "making up stories" and appealed to Home Minister Amit Shah to order a federal inquiry into the case for the truth to come out.None
Raja's brother Vipin Raghuvanshi initially told reporters he would "not accept Sonam's involvement in the murder until she confessed".
But he later said that one of the arrested men named by the police worked in Sonam's office.
"Only Sonam can clarify," he said. "If she's guilty, she should be punished."
