14-year-old boy missing out of Indiana; police say parents not cooperating

A statewide Silver Alert has been declared for a missing 14-year-old Indiana boy who is believed to be in extreme danger.

On Tuesday, June 25, Indiana State Police asked for the public's help in finding Bryson Muir, of Cass County, which is about 80 miles north of Indianapolis.

Bryson Muir is the son of former Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman Daniel Muir.

According to police, his parents haven't been cooperating and he may have been abused.

ISP said Bryson Muir was last seen leaving a family member's house near Cleveland, Ohio, with his mother on June 16.

CBS4, our Indianapolis affiliate, reports that his grandmother told police Bryson Muir had a black eye and might have been abused.

Shortly after leaving the grandmother's home, his mother was pulled over by police in a car that belongs to the Servant Leader’s Foundation.

Bryson Muir was not with her, police said.

In the following days, ISP said they started investigating the claims that he was abused in his home.

ISP said they were unable to get in contact with Bryson Muir's parents until they visited the home last week on June 27. He wasn't there.

The next day, on June 28, ISP officially declared a Silver Alert.

Later that afternoon, ISP said Bryson Muir's parents agreed to bring him to meet at a police post.

ISP said an hour before the scheduled meeting, the parents backed out of the arrangement, signaling an "unwillingness to cooperate."

Grandmother of missing Cass County teen speaks on disappearance

Indiana State Police issued a Silver Alert Friday for the missing son of former Colts player Daniel Muir.

Investigators say 14-year-old Bryson Muir was last seen leaving his grandmother's house near Cleveland about two weeks ago.

When Cheryl Wright went to pick Bryson up in Toledo at her daughter's request, she said he had a black eye, a fat lip, and swollen face.

"He just said that his dad did it, but he wasn't angry, but he wasn't angry at his father. He told me that he deserved it and it was OK," Wright said. "So I told him that it wasn't and that nobody should beat their children like that, not if they love them."

Friday night, 13News reporter Chase Houle spoke to Wright on the phone for about 15 minutes about her daughter, Kristen, son-in-law Daniel, and what she believes happened to her grandson.

"I just want to find Bryson. I want to make sure he's OK," pleaded Wright.

Wright said the day she went to pick Bryson up, there were three people in the car – his mom, dad, and a man she didn't know.

But only Bryson drove the nearly two hours back to her Cleveland home with her.

"She just told me I need to pick him up and because this is an ongoing case, I don't want to say everything that happened during our conversation, but she just told me that I needed to come get him," said Wright.

After only a couple days, Wright said Bryson was picked up by his mother, his dad, and an adult male, but not before she called police.

Wright said three or four minutes after they left, an officer pulled them over, but Bryson wasn't in the car.

"So, what could have happened to Bryson within that three to four minutes that you think," Houle asked.

"Sir, the only thing that the police officers told me is that they probably put him into another vehicle and that car drove off," responded Wright.

As of Friday afternoon, Indiana State Police say both Kristin and Daniel Muir are no longer cooperating with investigators. Friday morning, state police say the Muirs backed out of a meeting with police that they were supposed to bring Bryson to.

"Bryson is, I believe, somewhere else and they just don't want to bring him back, maybe they don't want the police to see his face. I think it's almost been two weeks now, but I'm sure those injuries are still there," said Wright.

Houle called and texted numbers believed to belong to Daniel and Kristin, but never got a response back.

ISP: Logansport boy remains in danger; parents stop cooperating

Police continue to search for a missing 14-year-old-boy who had been living in rural Logansport on a property tied to a religious organization that has been accused in the past of cult-like activities.

Indiana State Police investigators provided an update Thursday on the search for Bryson Muir, who is still considered endangered.

Police say they have communicated with the boy’s parents, Daniel and Kristen Muir. Daniel Muir is a former National Football League player who had two brief stints with the Indianapolis Colts.

On Thursday, ISP and the Cass County Department of Child Services made a site visit at the Muir’s residence, located on the property of the Servant Leader’s Foundation in Logansport, according to a state police press release.

While the Muirs were beginning to show signs of cooperation, Bryson Muir has still not been seen or located by ISP and DCS investigators, according to the release.

The Muirs had agreed to bring their son to meet investigators at the Peru post at noon Thursday.

At about 11 a.m. that day, the Muirs backed out of the arrangement.

Bryson was last seen Sunday, June 16, leaving a family member’s residence in Ohio with his mother in a white 2015 Chevrolet Suburban belonging to Servant Leader’s Foundation, police said.

Shortly after leaving this residence, the vehicle was pulled over by the Garfield Heights, Ohio, Police Department, but Bryson was not in the vehicle.

On or about June 18, investigators with ISP were requested by the Cass County Department of Child Services to investigate allegations of domestic battery to Bryson. The abuse was alleged to have occurred in the child’s home, in the 1700 block of U.S. 24 in Logansport. The property is owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department is also helping in the investigation.

According to YouTube and Facebook pages run by Daniel Muir, he is the pastor for Straitway Indiana-Goshen. A sign for Straitway Indiana-Goshen appears at the entrance of the property on U.S. 24. The YouTube page links to Straitway.com, where Muir is listed on the ministry team.

The Logansport Pharos-Tribune left a message on the Facebook page Thursday, asking Daniel Muir to comment on the investigation. No reply was immediately forthcoming.

Straitway Truth is a religious group led by Pastor Charles Dowell, based in Lafayette, Tennessee, according to the website newreligiousmovements.org. The group has appealed to many former NFL players, according to the website.

The website states: “This group identifies itself with Hebrew Israelism, a belief system that claims a lineage connection between African Americans and the biblical Israelites. Straitway Truth Ministry promotes a life of separation from mainstream society, advocating for a return to biblical laws and commandments as they interpret them.”

Straitway was the subject of a Sports Illustrated cover story and accused of cult-like activities in 2020 following the near arrest of former Green Bay Packers defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila.

Two of his friends were arrested for trespassing and later found to be armed with guns during an incident at a church Christmas pageant that Gbaja-Biamila’s sons were attending.

Investigators are continuing to ask those with information about the whereabouts of Bryson Muir to call the ISP Post in Peru at 800-382-0689 or to call 911. A statewide Silver Alert has been issued.

For geography sake, Toledo is on the way to Cleveland from Logansport. 3 hours to Toledo from Logansport, then another 2 to Cleveland.

“It is a very difficult situation,” said Cheryl Wright. “We’re all very sick about him. It hurts my heart.”

Wright, Bryson’s grandmother, initially tipped off police about potential abuse Bryson was facing just minutes before he was last seen by anyone other than his parents. She said she believes Bryson was beaten by his father, Daniel, and that her grandson has been “brainwashed” into the Muir’s lifestyle on a large religious group compound in Logansport.

Wright last saw Bryson on June 16 when he was leaving her home outside Cleveland, Ohio, with his mother, Kristen Muir, in a white 2015 Chevrolet Suburban.

“He was here for two days, Thursday evening to Sunday morning,” Wright said. “His mom came to get him. I didn’t want to let him go.”

The child’s grandmother reported to police that the child had a black eye and might be being abused by his parents. She even took a picture of Bryson.

“His face was battered. When I got him he had a black eye and busted lip,” Wright said. “His whole face was swollen. I can only imagine how many times he had been hit in the face for it to be like that.”

Wright told FOX59/CBS4 that Bryson said it was his father, Daniel, who had given him the black eye. He did not tell his grandma what led up to him being hit and did not want to talk about what happened. This caused her to call local police.

Officials visited the Muirs' home on the property of an organization called the Servant Leader's Foundation, but 14-year-old Bryson has not been seen, according to a news release. After agreeing to meet officials and bring their son Friday, his parents backed out of the plan, the release said.

Ex-NFL player using attorney to communicate, Silver Alert continues

State Police have been in touch with Bryson Muir’s family attorney, the missing teenager from Logansport and the son of former Indianapolis Colts player Daniel Muir. However, they have not yet located him in person.

Police issued a Silver Alert for Bryson on June 28th, shortly after his parents canceled a meeting with state investigators.

“it’s very interesting as to why the parents would not want us to check on their child or find their child and make sure their own child is safe,” said State Police Sergeant Steven Glass.

The State Police say they now need to communicate through the Muir family’s attorney to reach Bryson’s parents and discuss how to get them to cooperate.

“Them not showing up last week, which was the agreement to bring Bryson to our post. just signals an unwillingness to cooperate,” says Glass. “At this point, they sought legal council and we are constantly reaching out to the legal council to try and get to the parents.”

“Time is always of the importance in these matters,” Glass said. “We are concerned that he is in danger with the injuries sustained to his eyes and who knows what else. We definitely want to find him quickly. We know that people who are out there know where he is at. We just really need the public’s assistance.”

Apparently he is alive which is wonderful but not wanting him seen would seem to indicate abuse would be noticed...?

And HOW is it they can be sure it is even him they talked to?

I wouldn't take the parents' nor their attorney's word for ANYTHING in this situation.

You are correct. He was at his grandma's house in Ohio. No alert in OH though. Very odd imo.
No the grandma reported him missing, he was found at at the parents' compound was he not? They had better not let this boy back near his parents EVER as he will be in danger if he'd already been beaten to the point of a swollen face and black eye and now he had told someone...

Why would you even take the kid to grandma's with those injuries? Imo it is why they were hiding him also. Or was mom with the kid when he stayed there and then they left? Is the mom her daughter or the dad her son? Haven't had time to really sink into this one but read the posts the other day and so far.

He was last seen in OH. Missing persons reports are filed in the city/county where the individual was last seen.

I get that but it isn't where he was found right? Grandma last saw him leaving with mom from her home and was found at mom and dad's "compound". That's what I'm saying. Thinking we are missing each other.
