ISP: Logansport boy remains in danger; parents stop cooperating
Police continue to search for a missing 14-year-old-boy who had been living in rural Logansport on a property tied to a religious organization that has been accused in the past of cult-like activities.
Indiana State Police investigators provided an update Thursday on the search for Bryson Muir, who is still considered endangered.
Police say they have communicated with the boy’s parents, Daniel and Kristen Muir. Daniel Muir is a former National Football League player who had two brief stints with the Indianapolis Colts.
On Thursday, ISP and the Cass County Department of Child Services made a site visit at the Muir’s residence, located on the property of the Servant Leader’s Foundation in Logansport, according to a state police press release.
While the Muirs were beginning to show signs of cooperation, Bryson Muir has still not been seen or located by ISP and DCS investigators, according to the release.
The Muirs had agreed to bring their son to meet investigators at the Peru post at noon Thursday.
At about 11 a.m. that day, the Muirs backed out of the arrangement.
Bryson was last seen Sunday, June 16, leaving a family member’s residence in Ohio with his mother in a white 2015 Chevrolet Suburban belonging to Servant Leader’s Foundation, police said.
Shortly after leaving this residence, the vehicle was pulled over by the Garfield Heights, Ohio, Police Department, but Bryson was not in the vehicle.
On or about June 18, investigators with ISP were requested by the Cass County Department of Child Services to investigate allegations of domestic battery to Bryson. The abuse was alleged to have occurred in the child’s home, in the 1700 block of U.S. 24 in Logansport. The property is owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Department is also helping in the investigation.
According to YouTube and Facebook pages run by Daniel Muir, he is the pastor for Straitway Indiana-Goshen. A sign for Straitway Indiana-Goshen appears at the entrance of the property on U.S. 24. The YouTube page links to
Straitway.com, where Muir is listed on the ministry team.
The
Logansport Pharos-Tribune left a message on the Facebook page Thursday, asking Daniel Muir to comment on the investigation. No reply was immediately forthcoming.
Straitway Truth is a religious group led by Pastor Charles Dowell, based in Lafayette, Tennessee, according to the website
newreligiousmovements.org. The group has appealed to many former NFL players, according to the website.
The website states: “This group identifies itself with Hebrew Israelism, a belief system that claims a lineage connection between African Americans and the biblical Israelites. Straitway Truth Ministry promotes a life of separation from mainstream society, advocating for a return to biblical laws and commandments as they interpret them.”
Straitway was the subject of a
Sports Illustrated cover story and accused of cult-like activities in 2020 following the near arrest of former Green Bay Packers defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila.
Two of his friends were arrested for trespassing and later found to be armed with guns during an incident at a church Christmas pageant that Gbaja-Biamila’s sons were attending.
Investigators are continuing to ask those with information about the whereabouts of Bryson Muir to call the ISP Post in Peru at 800-382-0689 or to call 911. A statewide Silver Alert has been issued.
