ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Michael Turney trial: Judge dismisses case against Arizona man accused of killing his stepdaughter

A judge has granted a motion made by the defense to dismiss the case against Michael Turney.

The trial began one week ago, with several witnesses, including cold case detectives and Alissa's siblings testifying against their father. The judge said there was not enough substantial evidence to convict Turney of murdering Alissa. The judge also ordered that Turney be released.
He did it. He's the only one with motive. Also means and opportunity. Ran away, Without taking anything. And never seen or heard from again. Huh. Sounds familiar.

They never found a body, but he wants to know who killed her. Let the jury decide!

The friggin' charges were dismissed!!!! That's B.S.!!! So didn't make it that far. And especially with the testimony of the other children. To DROP the charges. No physical evidence. Yes. But the circumstantial fits together. It wouldn't be the first case tried and possibly convicted with no body.

Isn't against the law to put a human body in a freezer, and not tell anyone?
I would think it would fall under, Concealment of a death, Maybe abuse of a corpse, Along those lines. So from what I've read. It seems they could charge her with something. It's really disturbing. You have it in a wedding cake box for decades. Wouldn't you think of it everytime you went into the freezer?.

Sarah Boone, 42, was charged with second-degree murder after she allegedly zipped her boyfriend into a suitcase and left him there until he died.
Orange County Florida Sheriff's Office

Boone called 911 Monday afternoon from her Winter Park home and told dispatchers her boyfriend was dead, news outlets reported. Investigators said she claimed they had been drinking the night before and agreed it would be funny if Torres got into the suitcase during a game of hide-and-seek. Boone reportedly admitted she zipped Torres into the suitcase, went upstairs to bed and awoke the next morning to find him still inside and unresponsive,

The sheriff's office said Boone's statements didn't line up with video evidence found on her phone showing a blue suitcase facing downward with Torres trying to free himself. In the video, he called for help and yelled that he couldn't breathe, authorities said. Boone could be heard laughing and saying: “That’s what I feel like when you cheat on me,"

The trial for this is coming up soon! This happened not far from me. I've been interested to see how it plays out with how absolutely ridiculous her police interviews were! It was truly comical in the saddest of ways.. no disrespect intended towards the victim by saying so, only the perp who thought she was at smarter than she was! 😉

That's often their downfall. Thinking they are smarter than they are and everyone one else. They end up making a mistake that they don't realize.

The whole thing is so disturbing. Being cheated on. I would break up with the person. Yeah! DONE! This?. And with VIDEO. Well, You busted yourself. Especially him being heard saying he couldn't breathe. You had the chance to let him out. If only more murderers were as dumb at this. That would be great. I'm not voluntarily getting into a suitcase. Is it a magic show?. No. NOPE!

Judge finds forensic scientist Henry Lee liable for fabricating evidence in a murder case

Famed forensic scientist Henry Lee was found liable for fabricating evidence in a murder case that sent two Connecticut men to prison for decades for a crime they did not commit, a federal judge ruled Friday.

Ralph “Ricky” Birch and Shawn Henning were convicted in the Dec. 1, 1985, slaying of Everett Carr, based in part on testimony about what Lee said were bloodstains on a towel found in the 65-year-old's home in New Milford, 55 miles (88.5 kilometers) southwest of Hartford.

A judge vacated the felony murder convictions in 2020, and the men filed a federal wrongful conviction lawsuit naming Lee, eight police investigators and the town of New Milford.

The ruling Friday sends the case against the police and the town to trial. In granting a motion for summary judgement against Lee, the only outstanding issue for a jury in his case will be the amount of damages.

Lee, the former head of the state’s forensic laboratory and now a professor emeritus at the University of New Haven’s Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

He should be jailed for decades too. If someone fabricates evidence they should serve the maximum sentence for the crime they fabricated evidence for.

This is so disappointing. I highly regarded him. How could you do that?!!! 1985?!!! One day for a crime someone did NOT commit is too much!!! He is very knowledgeable no doubt. WHY?!!! Now everything is going to come into question. Are there more?.

I'm just in shock. I would never think he would do that. But I can't say he didn't. It's been proven he did. They are probably going to HAVE TO go back into his cases. I would say they should. Yes. Most say they didn't do it. But it at least one case, They didn't.

I'll post it. An article states the victim was living with his daughter. The shoe prints were size 7 1/2 -9. The men both wore larger sizes. And DNA came back as a woman's. Of course not in 1985. But the footprints wouldn't have been a big puzzler. I would automatically think the daughter.

He certainly should be criminally charged? Has he been??

No, and he never will be. Go to the crimes by the justice system thread and watch the John Oliver clip I posted.

As you've mentioned above, every one of his cases now has a lawyer jumping to review evidence.

Nancy Grace is called Amazing Grace because she never lost a case as a prosecutor. That seems impossible to me without some shenanigans going on. It's possible she only prosecuted cases she knew she could prove and never withheld evidence.

Here's an article that states inconsistent statements from a roommate of the daughter, With whom the victim was living with also. So why didn't they explore that?. There was evidence to lead them to believe it was someone in the house.A woman sized shoe print. Why they zeroed in on these guys. It was easy. They were very young, Living in a car, History of drug abuse. But the person responsible got away with it.

She is FIERCE!!!! She really became involved in law when her boyfriend or fiance was murdered. It took awhile for even ME to get use to her. To know what she was about. I miss the old CourtTV. I liked all of their anchors, Reporters. And the one who's mother is "Gloria Allred". Don't mess with her! The daughter is much different. Gloria is the one to represent you for SURE! O K. Just calling to see if she has council yet. Yes. "Gloria Allred" Aww 🤬
