NEW DETAILS: Investigators enter day 5 in search for 5-year-old Aspen Jeter

An Orangeburg County mother was found dead and her five-year-old could not be found. On Monday, WIS learned the identity of that woman and how she may have died.

Family members say it was Crystal Jumper. She was found dead in her home on Thanksgiving Day.

Deputies were called to her house in response to a welfare check. When they arrived, they found Crystal dead and later discovered she had a five-year-old daughter named Aspen Jeter.

Crystal Jumper was found dead laying on her bed with a gunshot wound at her home. While her family is devastated, they told WIS that they can’t completely process her death until her daughter Aspen makes it home safely.

While investigators head into day five in the search for five-year-old Aspen Jeter, her family is left looking for answers.

“She’s a sweet little baby and we just want her home,” said Pauley Jumper, Aspen’s uncle.

And now with Aspen, his niece gone -- Jumper says he and his family can’t move forward with funeral arrangements until Aspen is returned safely. He says it’s imperative that she come back soon due to a rare disability.

He says because of Aspen’s disability “She’s not able to walk, she can’t talk. So just everybody pray that we get her home.”

But Jumper says he’s becoming frustrated with the lack of information from investigators. WIS followed the family’s search for answers on Monday, but it ended with their questions still left unanswered.

The family tells WIS that Aspen’s father, Antar Jeter, is also missing but there’s no confirmation on whether the father is a suspect. An incident report released from the sheriff’s office says that the father was living with Crystal and Aspen.

The family says they were told an autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

According to a report from the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, Jumper's cousin called deputies and told them she hadn't heard from Jumper in several weeks, and the woman's 5-year-old daughter Aspen was also at the home. The report goes on to say the Childs father was staying there as well, and that the parents did not get along well.

Deputies say when they got to the trailer and went inside, they found a woman's body lying on a bed in a quote, 'advanced state of decomposition'.

However, there was no sign of the five-year-old, or the child's father.

The coroner hasn't released a cause of death, but are investigating this incident as a possible murder. As the family searches for answers, Aspens uncle is asking that anyone who knows anything that will bring aspen home safe, to please call authorities.

It breaks my heart that this woman has been missing for so long, and nobody even knew it. And now another precious child is somewhere unknown. Hoping for a miracle and Aspen is going to be found safe.
I am puzzled why someone didn't report it sooner. Since she was last seen November 1st.

Because they didn't see an emergency until the holiday. Some people just aren't in contact with family on a daily basis and it might be every couple of weeks that they do.
It seems like that was a long time to them, So I was just wondering. I didn't think it was a talk on a daily basis type of situation. It turned onto an unfortunate. Out of character situation. That's correct?. By likely the father of the child that was their's. They were living together and according to at least one source "Were not getting along" Right?

I think it's pretty obvious. It is what it is.
Yes it is. He didn't report her missing. Pretty telling. Hardly a new or unusual thing. Sadly. We see it all of the time.

What is unknown is whether the child is alive or not. If she is and pictures flood news and if they have been anywhere, hopefully someone will recall seeing them. It said she does not walk or talk and a five year old not ambulatory may stand out in someone's memory I hope and pray.

We can also sadly predict that unless the child is found safe and alive with him, he will refuse to tell where she is or what he did with her. We see it ALL of the time.

Orangeburg deputies looking for father of missing 5-year-old girl

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell say the mother of a missing 5-year-old child was shot to death and officers say they now want to find the little girl's father as they continue to search for her.

This is all part of the investigating into the disappearance of 5-year-old Aspen Jeter. Ravenll spoke briefly about the case at a late Wednesday afternoon press conference.

"We want to get this child back safely," Ravenell said.

Ravenell said the autopsy results on the child's 45-year-old mother confirm the mother died of a gunshot wound in the upper body. The woman, who has not been formally identified by the coroner's office, had been reported missing and her body was found in a home on Louise Drive in Orangeburg.

The sheriff was asked when the mother died, and while he said the autopsy didn't reveal that, he said she may have been dead for several weeks.

The child's father, Antar Antonio Jeter, is also missing from the area and may be operating a blue 2015 Mazda 6 taken from the victim's residence, according to the sheriff.

Ravenell said the father has primary custody of Jeter.

Ravenell said on Sunday, law enforcement on Sunday received a hit on a surveillance camera at a department store parking lot in the Fayetteville, NC area, where a male was seen with a child who matched the description of Aspen. A second sighting was made in the same area on Monday by citizens concerned about a small child they had spotted with a man in a vehicle.

Antar Jeter is described as standing about 5 foot seven inches tall and weighing around 190 pounds. Officers have not called him a suspect.

“We’ve been looking for him in connection with the larceny of a vehicle, but we also want to talk to him as he may have information in the case,” Sheriff Ravenell said. “We’d like to see if he knows anything.”

The sheriff added that anyone who sees Jeter or Aspen is asked not approach them.

The father has primary custody. That makes this a little more confusing. Usually it's the non- custodial parent who takes the child. IMO This seems like a domestic heated decision. They weren't getting along has been stated. So he's on the run with his daughter because he's a murderer. Right?.

That would be how I see it and the alert is not as elevated since he is the custodial parent. I am sure it will be a different story and escalated if they get actual evidence he was involved. At least she seems to have been safe in the recent sightings of her after her mom had been killed.

The good news is if this was them in the sightings, she is still alive. The bad news is someone who saw them in a vehicle was concerned about the child and so I am going to guess he was not treating her right or something didn't look right to result in that concern. The quicker they find them the better. Clearly he is a volatile man most likely, having killed the mother, and he is now under stress from that and homeless with a child with disabilities with him. She isn't in a good situation imo and is in danger.
