Search continues for missing girl in WA

The disappearance of a four-year-old girl from a WA campsite is "extremely concerning" and police say a search has yet to turn up any answers.

Cleo Smith was last seen about 1.30am on Saturday at the Blowholes campsite on the coast at Macleod, north of Carnarvon.

An air, land and sea search resumed on Sunday morning with help from the SES and community volunteers.

The girl was wearing a pink one-piece sleepsuit with a blue and yellow pattern when she was last seen.

Earlier, Ms Smith posted that she had woken at 6am on Saturday to find her daughter wasn't in their shared tent.

She described Cleo's disappearance as "very very unusual".

WA police Inspector Jon Munday said the family arrived in the area late on Friday afternoon.

Insp Munday said he was "fairly confident" police were able to get the identities of all the people who were in the campsite at the time she disappeared, as well as gathering intelligence from dashcams and CCTV cameras in the vicinity to "paint a picture of who was around here".

"We are greatly concerned for the safety of Cleo and we aren't leaving anything to chance or ruling anything out," Insp Munday said early on Sunday afternoon.

"We are going as hard as we can for as long as we can."

Insp Munday said detectives from Perth and Geraldton had arrived at the search area and despite the harsh environment, the weather was so far "conducive to someone surviving exposure to the elements", but there were still no answers or major breakthroughs in the search.

Wow. Her mother has to be like weak at the knees in relief and disbelief. This is such a rare outcome after this amount of time. Going to guess the police were onto someone and kept it hushed and I wonder when they picked up a trail, etc... Interested to hear where this house was i.e., near the campground, or was she taken and traveled with and in the city, etc.

I wonder if there was anyone on the parents' (meaning if anyone they knew suspicious in days leading up or just in general or acted odd or anyone at the campground) or cops' radar... It wouldn't have been mentioned if so I don't imagine because it would alert an offender who might get rid of her if they hadn't... This case and outcome is so very different from what we normally see... And the outcome is an AWESOME ONE!!

Hallelujah!

Aren't they from Carnarvon too?
I believe so. It makes me wonder if there was someone who they suspected (even the parents suggesting people) who acted odd prior around Cleo, or was known to the family as a different duck or who knew their plans or anything like that as this all seems to be Carnarvon or around that neck of the woods...

She was taken right back to town or at some point was... 7 minutes by car can be all the way across town so maybe not quite as close to home as one might think... I mean one can cross the small city I am in in that amount of time but they are two distinct ends of town, one south and one north.

Just working out thoughts. I guess what I mean is even though it sounds close, they likely weren't neighbors and it was at least a few miles apart...

Since Australia is on a totally diff time frame than us, as we get towards bed, news will probably be coming out on this from Australia through the course of "their" business day...

Neighbours of the “quiet man” have described seeing him buying nappies just two days before Cleo was discovered.

One man told Sunrise he saw the man in Woolworths buying Kimbies, a brand of nappies, which he thought was odd as the man doesn’t have children.

“The other day – on Monday – we saw him in Woolworths buying Kimbies and that,” he said.

“But we didn’t click on what he was buying them for.”

The neighbour said everyone on the street was familiar with eachother, but said the man tended to keep to himself.

“Everyone knows the person who stays at that house, but no one would have thought it would be him,” he told reporters.

“We were shocked.”

*(video footage, not a tip, led police to Cleo)

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson has since revealed footage of a sedan driving on North West Coastal Highway about 3am the night Cleo disappeared led officers to the house where the four-year-old was found.

Yessssssss.
I was wondering if that was it. Find the car that won't come forward, find Cleo.

Nappies are diapers, right? Don't think she was wearing diapers at her age.
