On January 15th, 1980, an employee of McLeroy Salvage called the Columbia County Sheriffs Office in regards to a homicide that took place on Frye Rd. at Charlie's Place, a neighborhood bar/residence.
When Deputy Louie Goble arrived at the scene, the body of 36 year old Willie Mease "PeeWee" Presley was lying on the ground with bullet wounds to her body. Later, Investigator Raska would recover three weapons that were stolen from Charlie's Place in some bushes nearby. It is uncertain if these weapons were used in the murder. Charlie Presley, the owner of the bar and also the husband of Ms. Presley, would reclaim the weapons. He had been out of town when the events took place.
Several interviews were conducted, according to available documents that were requested from the CCSO. One document indicated that a woman had last seen Presley alive at 1pm in front of Charlie's Place giving a child some candy. A review of the case from Sgt. Jimmy Watson in 2015 indicated that someone had dropped an individual off at Charlie's Place prior to Presley being found. The driver of the vehicle would be charged in an unrelated homicide in 1994 and is currently at the latter end of a 24-year-sentence, and will be released in 2024. The driver did not provide any useful information in this case.
As of right now, this case remains open, and assistance from the community is strongly suggested; especially anyone who may have lived in the area in 1981.
