2 young sisters mysteriously found dead in canal, police say

Two girls mysteriously found dead along the same Florida canal have been identified by police as sisters.

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, police received a 911 call reporting a body floating in the water, close to a neighborhood, Lauderhill police Lt. Michael Santiago told ABC News Wednesday morning.

Police later learned she may have been associated with another girl, Santiago said. Around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, another 911 call came in reporting that a second girl, about the same age, was found dead in the canal, further northwest, he said.

On Wednesday afternoon, police revealed that the two girls were sisters.

Destiny Hogan, 9, was discovered first, authorities said. She was pulled from the water wearing blue jean shorts and a gray shirt with the word "Dance" on it.

Her sister, Daysha Hogan, 7, was pulled from the water nearby later that day, wearing a tan shirt and flower pajama pants, police said.

There were no apparent signs of trauma, and neither girl was reported missing, police said.

Police are treating their deaths as "suspicious," Lauderhill Lt. Mike Bigwood said during a press briefing.

Mother of 2 girls found dead in canal may have been offering to baptize people, police say

Police are looking into reports that the mother of two young girls found dead in a South Florida canal was offering to baptize people in the canal a day earlier.

Lauderhill police Lt. Mike Bigwood identified the sisters during a Wednesday evening news conference as 7-year-old Daysha Hogan and 9-year-old Destiny Hogan. Investigators identified the girls’ mother, Tinessa Hogan, as a possible person of interest. She has been taken into custody, but no criminal charges have been filed.

Bigwood confirmed that the family had lived in the area where the bodies were found. There were no records of child welfare workers responding to the home.

At first, authorities did not suspect foul play because the first girl showed no signs of trauma. After the first body was found, detectives walked the length of the canal that runs behind the Habitat II Condominiums, but did not find anything else. Then, at 8:45 p.m., police received a 911 call from someone who spotted the second child’s body.

On Tuesday afternoon, detectives knocked on doors in the neighborhood, asking neighbors for help. Several residents told investigators about a woman, later identified as Tinessa Hogan, who was offering to baptize people in the canal on Monday. The girls were last seen near the canal with their mother Monday evening, Bigwood said.

You’ve got to be kidding me. How evil! This mother had a gift of two precious beautiful little princesses and allegedly does this?

Police seek info, video in case of Lauderhill girls found dead in canal

Detectives from the Lauderhill Police Department are asking the public for help as they continue to investigate the deaths of two sisters whose bodies were found in a canal June 22.

Specifically, they are looking for anyone who may have seen or taken video of a “heavyset Black female carrying a sign with the words ‘Death is the only way’” from June 14-21 in the area of West Sunrise Boulevard between Northwest 56th Avenue and Sunset Strip.

The girls’ mother Tinessa Hogan, 36, has been called a person of interest, and investigators said Tuesday that she “remains in hospital care.”

Lauderhill police also said that the medical examiner’s findings are pending, digital evidence is being analyzed, and that mapping of the canal will be conducted.

Lauderhill Mom Tinessa Hogan, Charged In Death Of Daughters Found In Canal, Pleads Not Guilty

A Lauderhill mother charged in the deaths of her two daughters whose bodies were found floating in a canal last month has pleaded not guilty

According to court records, defense attorneys for Tinessa Hogan, 36, filed the written plea with the Broward County Clerk of Court’s office on July 22nd.

Hogan has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. She remains in jail without bond.

Mother says she can't remember the moment daughters slipped away forever during canal 'baptism,' records reveal

A mother who thought she was saving her two young daughters by bringing them closer to God led them into the waters of the canal behind their home in Lauderhill to baptize them.

But 37-year-old Tinessa Hogan was haunted by something dark.

Instead of saving them, Hogan is accused of killing Destiny, 9, and Daysha, 7, according to recently unsealed court records. Neither girl could swim, and their mother had led them out of their depth.

And when Hogan finally spoke to detectives about the last moments of her daughters' lives, she revealed one of her final, chilling memories of that day:

Destiny yelled out, "Mommy, it's calling," referring to the water. Destiny and Daysha followed their mother into the L-shaped canal behind Habitat II Condominiums. But only their mother got out alive.

She recalled leading the girls into the water some time in the early morning and that "they all should've dipped in the water at the same time and made it back to the dry land," but could not remember what happened after they walked into the water, she told the detective.

She explained that she felt as if she were in a movie, that it didn't feel real.

Destiny and Daysha hardly left their mother's side, Hogan said. She referred to the three of them as "Siamese twins."

How would she find her daughters, the detective asked.

She said she would have to ask God. If they weren't with her, Destiny and Daysha must have been with him.

Wonder if she's had a psych eval.

We had a very similar case here a few years ago. The mother drowned too though. Whether accidentally or on purpose no one knows. Drowned her 2 children. She was mentally ill.

"Death is the only way"??!!! For everyone but her I guess... Gotta love that mental illness that excuses the killing of others but somehow their own personal survival instincts remain perfectly intact when it comes to who needs to die and be saved and baptised, etc... It also leaves big gaps in memory that are favorable to the survivor... Poor little girls. May they RIP.
