Law Enforcement Seeking Woman and 3-Year-Old Who Went Missing After Serious Highway 101 Wreck Near Confusion Hill

On 11/30/2020, at approximately 1150 hours, a 2011 Toyota Sienna traveling northbound on US-101, south of Confusion Hill, collided with a tree along the east road edge, for reasons still under investigation. Officers from the Garberville CHP area were called at 1200 hours, responded to the scene and arrived at approximately 1218 hours. One of the occupants identified as Steven Gutierrez, sustained major injuries and was transported from the scene for medical care. Two other occupants, a white female adult identified as Trinity Leigh Bray, and a male juvenile identified as Anthony Florentine-Perez, voluntarily walked away from the scene prior to CHP arrival. Bray and Florentine-Perez were reported walking northbound along US-101 and did not appear to be injured as a result of the collision. Officers searched the surrounding area and businesses and were unable to locate Bray or Florentine-Perez upon arrival.

CHP Garberville was notified by friends and family of Bray’s, she had not made contact nor been seen since the accident. Officers were dispatched to all known current and prior addresses of Bray’s to confirm her and the child’s welfare. A welfare, “Be On the Look Out” was broadcast to adjacent and neighboring law enforcement agencies. CHP Air Operations, officers from the Garberville CHP, and Leggett Valley Fire Department conducted a coordinated air and foot search of the area surrounding the collision scene and were unsuccessful in locating either party. The investigating officer attempted contact with Bray at all known prior contacts and a cellular phone locating ping was initiated to attempt to locate Bray. All attempts were also unsuccessful.

MOTHER AND CHILD STILL MISSING AFTER CRASH NORTH OF LEGGETT; FAMILY ASKS FOR HELP

A mother and child are still missing after a crash north of Leggett 24 hours ago. The woman, Trinity Bray, was driving a vehicle that struck a tree south of Confusion Hill at mile marker 98.3. The adult male passenger received major injuries.

The 34-year-old McKinleyville woman and her 3-year-old child, Anthony, left to get help. They were seen walking northbound on Hwy 101, but they haven’t been seen since.

According to Trinity’s adopted mom, Julie, “Anytime she has ever gotten into an issue she calls me. I tried to call her, but [the phone] keeps going right to voice mail. All I can think that she’s unconscious in the woods.”

Julie believes Trinity would have tried to come home if she could because “she was supposed to be signing a rental agreement yesterday; she was going to be getting her own place.”

Yesterday, Julie, began searching alongside Hwy 101 on foot. She went out looking again today. “If I’m yelling for her and she can actually hear me, she’ll probably come out,” Julie told us.

If anyone has time to help, Julie said, “We need some assistance. It is just me and two of my girlfriends.

Interesting update. Sounds like she fled the scene due to being under the influence. Then they were apparently out in the elements.

TRINITY BREY, MOTHER WHO WENT MISSING WITH THREE-YEAR-OLD SON, COULD FACE CHARGES OF CHILD ENDANGERMENT AND FELONY HIT AND RUN

California Highway Patrol’s Sergeant Matthew Harvey revealed that new information investigators have gathered since Trinity Brey and her son were found on Friday, December 4 have prompted a criminal investigation that could lead to Brey being charged with child endangerment and felony hit and run.

Trinity Brey is the mother who went missing in northern Mendocino County along with her three-year-old son after a single-vehicle accident on November 30. Four days later, Brey and her son were found on the side of Highway 101.

Sergeant Harvey said an analysis of the crashed vehicle indicated that Trinity Brey, was, in fact, the driver of the vehicle. Inside of that vehicle, Sergeant Harvey said a “controlled substance was found.” He would not be specific as to which substance.

Sergeant Harvey said Brey has told investigators that after the single-vehicle car crash, she and her child fell down a steep embankment, falling into the Eel River, and found an abandoned marijuana grow across the river to take refuge in throughout the four days they were missing. Investigators have been unable to corroborate these claims, said Sergeant Harvey.

Another piece of information from Harvey was the circumstances of finding Trinity Brey. He said that on December 4, CHP dispatch received a flurry of calls regarding a naked woman sitting in the middle of Highway 101.

It was at approximately 11:00 a.m. on December 4 when CHP began to receive reports of a naked woman sitting in the middle of Highway 101, according to Sergeant Harvey. A driver stopped to speak with the distressed woman who indicated there was a child down the embankment. Upon receiving these reports, Sergeant Harvey said CHP officers were “confident that it would be Brey and the child.”

Sergeant Harvey said first responders found the child significantly down the embankment along Highway 101 and one witness had told CHP the child was “holding onto a log.”

After the pair were found, both were taken to a nearby hospital. When asked whether either Brey or her son had injuries, Sergeant Harvey said they both appeared to be “in good shape.”

Sergeant Harvey said this case is specifically difficult to speak about because “we have a young child who is potentially the victim of a crime. We want to be sensitive with that information. Initially, we put out more information about the child than we would because he was missing.”

He said that California Highway Patrol’s goal is transparency and his agency has to navigate the “fine line between transparency and maintaining the integrity of an active and sensitive investigation.”

“I believe she had climbed up and was looking for help,” said Chumley of Piercy Fire, who was one of two searchers who located the two lost Carrico girls in 2019. He told us that when he got to where the woman was, John Allen had already talked to her. “She said her son was down the embankment and could he go get him,” Chumley said. Then he added, “John is the hero of this story.”

John, who denied being a hero, said, “I showed up and found the mother half naked…She wasn’t wearing any pants and was wearing a shirt. I’m not sure if the trucker that found her gave her the shirt.”

But Anthony was nowhere to be seen. “I asked the lady where her child was,” Allen told us. “She told me, but she said we would need ropes to get him. He was a 100 yards down the hill.”

John decided not to wait for equipment. He said he yelled and he heard the child yell back. He was able to tell where Anthony was. “He was more like 200 yards down the hill,” Allen said. It was very steep.

Allen made his way towards the child taking in the details. “He was totally naked and hanging onto the tree for dear life,” Allen told us. “If he would let go, he would have fallen. And he would have fell pretty far. It was pretty straight up and down. Like an 80 degree slope.”

To reassure the boy, Allen said, “I told him I was a firefighter. I grabbed onto him and he felt like a bag of ice. He wouldn’t really let go of the tree… I had to peel his little fingers off the tree. I told him I wouldn’t let him go.”

Been a day so maybe I should not comment but wth. I for one am not surprised ONE BIT and I don't believe one bit of her story. Even with the little shared, the most likely scenario was a no brainer... So she had something like how many days to get clean from whatever substance... B.S. Total B.S. Imo. I also would not necessarily believe they were out there with no help for how long... If they were, she definitely cared less about her child... Again imo.

Ya know, I had the thought at first no one would be that stupid after the two probably false hiking and lost claims that I don't buy, would someone try this...? Yep if they are facing an almost fatal accident to the man and with a child in the car and substance abuse and a substance found in the car well yah, she would...

The false hiking, lost and going out somewhere to "find themselves" to journal or to "fast" or to "commune" claims. Bull. Most know which ones I am talking about, that young girl is lucky she and her parents have probably been cut a break because she is young and yet the story makes no sense and the public who was concerned and searchers never received further answers... The other older woman was called out on what appeared to be a false "lost" claim... So was her family. So was their GoFundMe.

I don't buy one bit of this one... From the start, I did not buy it... I also would not doubt someone helped hide mom and son in these missing number of days... Lo and behold they show up on the same highway... And let's add some nakedness to add to the story... And leave a 3 year old hanging onto a log... B.S. Totally.

That little boy needs to be with some people that can keep him safe. There's something wrong with his mom. I don't know what it is I don't know her at all, but whatever it is, she's in no condition to take care of a little child.

I imagine there is quite a bit more to this. I wonder how the man is doing. I imagine he will be questioned if they can question him.

Woman who went missing with her son in California redwoods is charged with felony

A woman who was missing for four days after reportedly walking away from a car wreck in Mendocino County has been charged with “felony abusing or endangering the health of a child” — her young son, who was with her during that time.

Several days after the woman was found, the CHP said she might face endangerment charges, as well as felony hit-and-run for walking away from the crash — but it took a year for the investigation to be completed. On Tuesday, Dec. 14, the Mendocino County District Attorney filed the criminal complaint with the endangerment charge.

The woman, now 35, was booked into Mendocino County Jail and released on bail the same day, the Mendo Fever news site reported. It said she is to be arraigned on Jan. 5.
