Brooklyn woman missing for over a month after visiting woman she met online

TiJae Baker, 23, took a train from New York City to Washington, D.C., on May 1 and has yet to return to home.

Her mother, Toquanna Baker, is desperate to find her daughter. She told ABC News that the details of TiJae Baker’s disappearance have led her to believe she may have been dragged into a human trafficking scheme.

TiJae is an up-and-coming artist in Brooklyn and a student in her final year of college. She went to D.C. to apparently make posters for a woman she met online, her mother said.

Toquanna Baker said her daughter got off at Washington Union Station and was supposed to return the next day. When she did not, Toquanna Baker filed a police report with the New York Police Department a few days later.

After a few weeks of silence, TiJae Baker called home June 1 and begged to be rescued by her mother. Toquanna Baker immediately traveled to the D.C. area, but has yet to find her daughter. She hasn't spoken to her since.

Toquanna Baker said she provided the identity of the girl TiJae Baker went to visit to police.

Tijae reportedly called from a Maryland nail salon on June 1 and silently plead for someone to rescue her.

"She said just tell her mother to come get her -- now," Roxanne Baker, TiJae's grandmother, told ABC 7 New York.

However, when the family went to Maryland, TiJae was no longer there, they said.

Toquanna shared surveillance footage from the salon reportedly showing her daughter pacing around and on the phone.

The mom also claimed she tracked down the woman who offered her daughter the job and worries that her daughter unwillingly joined a cult.

Lots missing they aren't going to tell us like there always is. Did she call from her phone or the salon phone? What did the nail salon people say? Have they tracked or pinged her phone since? She traveled for a job and planned to, did she take cash or cards and is she using a debit card, etc.? Family knows the name of the person she was meeting and it sounds like have talked to that person, etc. She called for help but they went out there and she was no longer there. Said who? And where were they to go or find her?

She was in her final year of college so must have been just set to graduate. Sad.

There is hope here. She called home a full month later so was alive 30 days later yet. She had at least enough freedom to call on her own from the salon and say to come get her. There is video/a pick here from the salon so it goes to logically assume there is video most likely of her getting to the salon possibly somewhere outside as well or they have searched for more AND if they have the salon footage, they have talked to people there and did they say she was alone, why was she there, etc., did they know her? Why didn't she call the cops or did she...?

I am going to hang onto the fact if she was still alive 30 days after leaving NY and so she very likely and hopefully is still alive.

After missing for almost two months, 23-year-old East New Yorker TiJae Baker is now home safely due to the tireless efforts of her mother, Toquanna, who announced the news at a press conference from Councilwoman Darlene Mealy’s office this past Friday, June 24.
