ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

What are Germans saying about this?

Many are mad that it took that long to get some form of justice for all those victims. Me too, but it is because so many Nazis stayed and worked in the government after the war, so it's no real surprise that so many of those mass murderers could just lead normal lives. Sad reality.

That's a big part of the drama I mentioned.
When I saw it I wondered. I actually thought you were just talking about drama between teams or something.

I hate to say it but he sounds like he was a bit more impaired than the two to three drinks he admitted to, just judging by the signs they say he exhibited, etc. I also hate to say this but just like that AG in where was it, South Dakota, he deserves no special treatment. Not saying his BAC is known yet, etc. or most facts yet either, just that the same thing should go on as it would with anyone for an investigation, etc.

Tragic, I pray this girl pulls through but the injuries sound bad enough if she did, hard to say if she would ever be the same again.

What it doesn't mention is that he is still in the hospital, too. I am sure there will be charges when he is either in better condition or released from the hospital. He also has a prior conviction more than 10 years ago. Andy had to be a mess!

Prior conviction for what? Something similar like DUI?

I did not catch anything about him still being in the hospital, all I saw was he complained of stomach pains. I also see she was not the only child hurt but she is the only one with life threatening injuries/critical condition.

Local news seems to be the only ones mentioning this. Yes, prior DUI. They say he'll be in the hospital for at least a few more days, so evidently hurt pretty badly somehow.
his prior incidentS

Wow. I was trying to keep my mind open but I am starting to judge here now. He had several prior things and several DUI contacts and clearly was cut a break or someone had some influence. Drug paraphernalia, road rage, assault, weapon, and more. In both articles, his stomach pains seem to come on when impairment, etc. started to be noted and questioned...

I can't quite figure out how he hit the left right corner of one parked vehicle and the right rear corner of another in thinking of an entrance ramp. I am sure more detail will come out on that.

Yeah, MSM seems to be maybe if not quite whitewashing, not touching on all of this prior trouble of his either... Your locals may be more willing to go there...

It's a weird ramp and there are a couple of places that it could have happened at like that. One is where it turns off of Stadium Drive and again way down the ramp (it's very long) where another road merges onto the ramp with Stadium Drive near where it merges with 435. There is also construction going on in that area.

I would say there is also more investigation going on as to how much he was drinking with others. It "appears" that he was most likely heading home from the practice facility by where it happened.

I wondered. I figured we are talking a major area and probably major interstate in a big city and near the stadium no less.

It is just something I note when you try to picture the accident in the head when you first hear a few details and it seems the cars must not be facing the right way, the same way etc. When I first read he hit the left front corner of the Impala, I was thinking he crossed over and was not in his own lane, but I did not realize at first it was on an entrance ramp apparently. Difficult when not familiar with the area to picture it.

If it goes like the AG case, that will all be silenced, whitewashed, and already that is likely being attempted. I guess I am cynical.

It might sound trite but man just take a cab, especially with his apparent past one would think he would learn.

Right where two major highways meet and construction going on in that entire area - reworking the ramps. MODOT was notorious for putting in left lane exits and now they are fixing that disaster.

Ya see, I am confused, now exit ramps rather than entrance but I am not doubting, I just realize I would need to probably see it and know the area.

I will say if there is construction right where this happened, etc., his speed should have not been excessive?

But it also could be something as stupid as looking at his phone, but with his history...

THAT was an entrance ramp, but those are being affected by the construction going on for the exit ramps. It's a major mess!

It could be, don't know your laws there on phones either but here, it is hands off now. Wisconsin you can still be on one holding it for a call last I knew but no texts, etc. Yeah, his history makes it a bit harder to give that benefit of the doubt...

It does sound like a major mess. I think I get a bit more what you mean now with exit ramps affecting entrance ramps.
