ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

i'm not much of a Hollywood buff but who doesn't love Sam Elliott? I can't find anything on lately and I'll be darned if I am going to watch another one of a million rehashes on Karen Read. My cooking or life at home kind of channels generally only put out new videos on Sundays, which is today, but they won't be out until later and so I ended up watching this this morning.

US Marshals recover 200 missing children across US during 'Operation We Will Find You 2'

Story by Greg Wehner
• 8h
The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) found 200 missing children during the course of a six-week national sting that ended last week.

The second of its kind, "Operation We Will Find You 2," was conducted in seven federal judicial districts and geographic locations across the U.S. from May 20 to June 24, focusing on areas with an increased number of critically missing children.

In a press release, the USMS said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (USMEC) assisted in the operation, which led to the recovery and removal of 123 children from dangerous situations, as well as another 77 missing children who were located and found in safe locations.

Out of the 200 children, 173 were endangered runaways, 25 were considered missing, a family member abducted one, and one was a non-family abduction.

Additionally, 14 of the recovered children were located outside the city where they were reported missing, and the youngest was 5 months old.

About 57% of the missing children were recovered within seven days of the USMS helping out with the cases.

"There are no words to describe the terror felt by missing children, their families, and their communities," Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said. "I am grateful to the dedicated professionals of the U.S. Marshals Service and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who worked to find 200 critically missing children during this six-week operation, and who work every day to keep children safe."

The operation was executed in several locations, including Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon and New York City.

U.S. Marshals worked with federal, state and local law enforcement, NCMEC, the Department of Children and Family Services and other agencies to locate the missing children.

Many of the children were considered to be in challenging recovery cases, including child sex trafficking, child exploitation, sexual abuse, physical abuse and suffering from medical or mental health conditions.

For instance, on June 13, USMS recovered a 16-year-old girl who was reported missing from her home in Edwardsburg, Michigan, by her legal guardian on Jan. 11, 2024.

And yet a lot of CCTV leading up to. Your area has had more of that then we do I dare say for years. I've seen that in other UK cases and in Australia and some other places as well. I'd dare say the area this is in Wisconsin they are lucky to have any. My family are not crime followers in the way I am and yet they were all talking of this and I knew nothing of it and so I don't know if the bit of time I got to ask them about it in our busy visit here if they have it all straight BUT apparently video sees her going into the dumpster alone. I don't even know if this dumpster wasn't in her own apartment complex, or she lived in a house and walked to a business with a dumpster or what. My daughter probably knew the most. They've actually let very little out as to how she was seen even en route whether that is video or some eyewitness, etc.

She apparently had a home and didn't need a place to sleep but of course then my thoughts go to was she told to get out, did she have a hub or bf and he kicked her out, drugs or something seem likely just because why would you get into a dumpster and end up picked up by the garbage truck... it is summer here and while that doesn't mean one can't have a cool evening, why a DUMPSTER? I guess she actually disappeared in May though... But still a DUMPSTER?

The thing is they will likely never know, she apparently ended up eventually in the incinerator... Knowing more about her home and circumstances I'd say would help. Did she not have a car she could have slept in, was she kicked out, was she not kicked out and simply was on major drugs, all these factors aren't known as far as I could tell. Daughter looked up most current news on it while with me and nothing on that. I don't doubt locals may know more but sister doesn't live in the area and my mom isn't the type to follow such or be aware of it until someone tells her of it and it isn't her county, but the next one or two over. AND it hasn't made big news as far as nationally, so many don't. For every case we follow, there are at least 100 like it that never get the notice... Little hs been said about it really as to other facts...

The case you are talking about too, why would you EVER climb into a dumpster to sleep. I just can't imagine that being a choice, I don't care if cold, drunk, drugged. I'd like to know more in this case here where she lived and the area as we are talking small towns, rural Midwest, etc. and the biggest "city" is 8000 people and most others around are truly small town, 1000 or less. You could sleep in a doorway, get in a car, guarantee you to this day there many don't lock them, a park..

I can only guess this was drugs. I don't know but just like your case, I can't imagine ever unless desperation wanting to climb into a dirty and unknown for garbage in it dumpster. I'd break into a car first. I'd never do either but think all know what I mean...

Of course the gruesome thoughts have her dead and compacted in the garbage truck first before ending up in the county incinerator. What is missing is what led up to it all that evening. Nothing about that.
The case I mentioned he was very drunk and he had slept in a shop doorway for a while then woke up cold and it is presumed he clambered into a skip of waste paper and cardboard. These dumpsters don't always have smelly rubbish in and it is easy to tell the ones that have paper and cardboard in. He was seen on camera going into the cul-de-sac and not coming out. The bin lorry emptied the skip early morning and his phone followed the lorry route to the tip. Of course this was not all discovered till months afterwards. It is very sad when this happens. It is often drink and or drugs or both that can have this effect.

That's awful and so was this one. Most think she had to be drunk or on drugs or something to not have been awoken also. I hate thinking about it but would say once that thing goes up in the air picked up by the truck no one would ever hear a person in it imo, most likely and there'd be no chance of getting out from that moment on. Last I knew they'd given few details other than she was seen going into the dumpster on her own (no foul play) and I believe had been seen walking as well. She left home and no word as to why that time of night believe it was 9ish, not certain though. I've wondered about abuse, a fight, someone kicking her out, etc. but I don't even know if she was married or lived with anyone. I can imagine if being in bad enough shape to sleep in a dumpster that she walked far and so I've wondered if she didn't live in an apartment complex and simply climbed in their own dumpster there but not sure. I know some people of the last name and I'm hoping it isn't the adult child of a woman I know whose husband died some years ago (her kids' father). The father was not unknown to do drugs although a very friendly guy, the mother probably not either but I'm unsure with regard to her how much she did them once she had kids. There's been no hints as to why she left home or what condition she was in. She ended up in the incinerator and I believe they confirmed that too. Although she probably wasn't alive by then. Don't all garbage trucks compact as they go? Awful thoughts and things I don't like thinking about. It did remind me of another gruesome one I'd forgotten about where a server got caught partway in an old dumbwaiter when the door came down during a shift at a restaurant. It cut her head off or part of her body, I can't recall which and of course she died. Someone I knew knew her parents I believe but for the life of me I can't remember who that was. She was a young adult, 19, 20, college kid I think. This one in the dumpster was in her late 30s. I wonder if she had kids. No idea on that either.

Well enough of this gruesome stuff, I don't want to dwell on it and sure you nor anyone else wants to either. I do wonder though why she left home and IF they have video of her going into the dumpster on her own or it was an eyewitness. I believe it was video because it took them I think a week or so to determine what happened and find video if I have it right. Article was a bit vague on that so unsure.

Well I've finally, finally reached the first two days off in two weeks, it has been grueling and I didn't think today was EVER going to end and then they were keeping everyone after but I lucked out and by the time I shut down, others had it all done and we were allowed to go home. I HATE when the keep us after. If I am scheduled OT, I am fine as I know it going into my day(s), but thinking I'll be done by 9 or 9:30 and then finding out we have to say 1/2 hour or so late, when I thought i'd be going home and am more than ready to, I hate with a passion. One thing I don't like about retail is you never get an extra day off when there's a holiday as with other 9 to 5 type jobs. You get an extra day's pay but not an extra day off. If we did, right now I'd have three off this week since tomorrow is the 4th of July/Independence Day but nope just my usual day off. I didn't have to work it but have no plans. Don't doubt my daughter might invite me or something to her in laws campground but I have no desire to go anywhere which is ALWAYS the case these days. I am too wiped, ALWAYS. And two days are not enough to make up for the long hard week. And like tonight I worked 'til 9:30 so already going into my first day off tomorrow it isn't like I had this evening off from 5 p.m. or anything. However, the day after is decent as I'm not scheduled til 2 p.m. (Saturday). It isn't like a day off but at least I don't have to get up early right after my two off and get going.

Anyhow off topic, however this is current news lol. Not that work is a news story lol.

There was a case the other day of a California mother, I think, from a reservation or at least her MIL was, etc. and a car just bought from the hub for her allegedy was not registered yet, and found but she hasn't been. Then Joe Giacalone this morning mentioned the case and new the basics. I wanted to put it here but can't recall the name. The unregistered to them vehicle was found. She was last known to be driving her MIL's vehicle to MIL's home from casino close by, never seen since.

Mother of four I think.

If anyone runs into such or knows of it...

Hey Mel I am going to guess you have heard of this case @Mel70, as it is Bloomington. Someone from MN told me about it and said some thought it might be Donald Blum who disappeared her Since told I hadn't' had a chance to look it up until today. In this short article I don't see much reason to think it was Blum necessarily but maybe personal or some such. I don't know much but am guessing this isn't unheard of to you.... it is not well known to me.

Unsolved, no answers, I think it deserves to be mentioned or talked of.

My floor is mopped. It did not need it so much as I was bent to keep up with it week to week and I did! :cheering:

Case ab above, talk of Blum, is the Katie Poirer case he is "known for". Who almost everyone knows about.

Not sure where else to park this.

Going to preface this by saying I am not always a News Nation, Law & Crime and some such fan of these types of news shows.. I've been angry on occasion at overboard or false things for sensationalism or mistakes, untruths even. HOWEVER, what even conventional news hasn't had that at some point in their history or by one reporter or another, etc.

I have never come across this channel before but they are talking with Brian Entin and man it is interesting. I'm just an hour of two in. The discussion is wide ranging. Right now they are talking of a story he did when he went out to where these people all had bunkers. They talk of conventional news and how the cover a crime and then drop it. They talk of families who get no coverage or if the crime victim is a minority and a whole lot more.

It is obvious they are younger than I as I see them hitting realizations lol that most of us start to in our 30s or so. In their case, you know, that these are real people and this isn't a video game. Different generation clearly. I have never thought life was a video game...

It's very good and also talks on many things I haven't mentioned but also conventional news versus what they do. When asked if crime is his big thing, he actually says no and isn't totally enamored with being labeled a crime reporter, that's when he brought up the bunker story and some others. You know like Nate, he'd kind of say the same thing imo, he follows some of these crimes for us but it certainly isn't his only thing or only news.

There's been little on the last few days imo or that I've found and this was not the length I would have wanted, it is two hours, but I will continue watching or keep it up to watch later if I don't finish. I may have to check out their channel, it's just a really good conversation about everything. Interesting.

He also talks of having to knock on people's doors who may not want to talk and feeling like he's invasive. I am paraphrasing of course.

The Petitos of course. He basically camped out in the neighbor's yard although I don't think News Nation paid them enough for this.

The neighbors I mean. But the neighbors did not like the Laundries and/or vice versa.

I haven't always agreed with all I've seen him say or do either but this gives a fuller picture of a lot of it.

It's just a good watch.

Something about Chinese pot industry in the Dakotas or somewhere, I forget. Lol. As to some of the other things he covers. And how they CAN go out on some story without having to have that stuffy network refusal to pay for such or allow such or it isn't an interesting enough story, etc.

I am very much paraphrasing. It starts out with nothing all that interesting off the bat for a bit but stick it out. It's pretty darned interesting.

They talk Daybel, and also things like UFOs and Area 51 lol. Quite the interesting and varied conversation. The type I'd like to have I find with no one in life these days, probably because no time to sit down and just talk for the sake of talking and having a conversation. Maybe one day. Now they are talking Chelsea Graham, the one with the bearded dragon whose case has not gotten much coverage.

Talking Kohberger now. Interesting. When he got to PA with rumor of an arrest, BK's family lived in a gated community. All reporters were outside the community and then and then a woman on Twitter told him she was from the neighborhood and could get him in and so that's what he did. He then knocked on the parents' door, talked to them through a window, was told to go away, etc. He said he got heck from some viewers over doing that to he parents who are not the defendant. I can see that and would agree with that and it is that kind of stuff where I say they cross the line sometimes... Or some would think they do...

Regardless, like I said, pretty darned interesting...

now they are into the UFO stuff and Area 51 and Grusch and Knapp, etc. and hearings in Congress.

Very interesting...

I needed something different badly and this entire interview or discussion is it, just interesting and talk of so many different things.
