ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey’s trial for alleged sex offences is on track to see a jury sworn in on June 28, a court has heard.

Mr Justice Wall told a hearing at Coventry Crown Court that a second “overflow” courtroom would be set up at London’s Southwark Crown Court for Spacey’s trial, to accommodate members of the press and other interested parties.

Spacey was not required to attend Friday’s pre-trial hearing, which saw prosecutor Christine Agnew KC and defence counsel Patrick Gibbs KC both appear via videolink.

The court was told Mr Spacey had been given leave not to attend by the judge prior to the hearing.

During discussions about arrangements for the trial, Mr Justice Wall said: “A number of spaces are to be reserved for the press in the court itself and (in) the overspill court.”

Spacey, known for starring in American Beauty, The Usual Suspects and House Of Cards, denies a total of 12 charges relating to four men.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between 2001 and 2013.
This disappoints me too. I really like him as an actor. "The Usual Suspects" He gives such a wonderful performance. But I CANNOT let anyone slide. "Bill Cosby". Sometimes one accusation could be one false money driven motivation. But then one more, And another, It's real. IMO. I didn't see anything not to love about him before that. I WAS WAYYYYYYY OFF! I loved "Fat Albert" Too. I can hear the theme song. These shows I loved will no longer be the same. They need to pay, And exactly the same sentences as everyone else. O.J. Did it too. "If I did it" . Psh.

So about 3 school hours later. ( Ya know cause...Those hours seemed like days. Am I right?. 🤚Don't leave me hanging). I just had to laugh at the absolute ridiculousnessnessness and disbelief. Oh. I did find a nice shiny penny Thursday. It was face up. I picked it up. Per my mom, "If you see a penny, Pick it up. And all the you you'll have good luck. But if upside down, Let it lie, Or by the end of day. You will die". IT WAS FACE UP MA! But I thought about it. It was uhhhh... In the stairwell. IT WAS IN THE BUILDING!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!! IDIOT!

Do we have a thread with all the new/breaking news on this case? Not sure so posting here for now.

Couldn't possibly be guilty?! No way. He was listed as a "Most eligible bachelor. AND an attorney. Because she had kissed him the night before. It is old, Old thinking that a woman led someone on. That's what it reminds me of. That a woman shows interest. Therefore it was consensual. I've run into several.

STANFORD, Calif. - A Stanford biology professor who faces domestic violence charges has gone missing while hiking at Olympic National Park in Washington.

Hunter Bryan Fraser left on a 40-mile hike Monday morning and has not returned, according to the Clallam County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff was notified by park officials of the overdue hiker Wednesday at 6:17 p.m. and began an extensive search at Deer Ridge Trail, where Fraser's car was parked.

The 44-year-old was expected to stay over two nights and return to Seattle Wednesday, authorities said. He was last seen west of Deer Park Campground Monday afternoon by Olympic National Park personnel, and his exact route is unknown.

The family's last contact with him was via text Tuesday morning.

Fraser faces felony domestic violence charges stemming from last summer. He allegedly threw a woman identified as his girlfriend on the ground and later slammed a door into her while playing a game with her and Fraser’s daughter July 4, according to the Stanford Daily.

In November the charge was raised from a misdemeanor to a felony at a Palo Alto Courthouse hearing.

OMG. Shouldn't have been free IMO. Wasn't even monitored. Wow. Just WTF?! AVOIDABLE!!! AGAIN!!!! I wouldn't bet on finding him deceased. He's been planning this. So am I missing something?. Probably. I see raised felony from misdemeanor in November. I'm missing..

I think he's planned this a long time and knows how to do it. That's an escape route you don't F around. Unless he gets injured. Then....Well anyone is F'ED! You are. Get right with God. Uh uh. I'm good down here. I'm not climbing any dam thing. A mountain?.
Go ahead. I wish you wouldn't. For know that people that are unable to be or were unable to be saved. Their body stays there. You sure?. WTF?!

OH FFS!!!!! COME ON!!!! MINNESOTA!!!! GENIUSES!!!!! WOW! DUUUUHHHHHH!!!!! Oh great. A mass shooter is free. That's not dangerous or anything. I can't get the reasoning behind him even being eligible. Golly gee! You really think he ran away?

MN just did the same thing with the Madeline case. They gave one bond with conditions and a higher bond if they want out with NO conditions. What is this NEW bullsh*t I've never heard of before???? Now I've heard of it twice in a week!

So even if you are a very dangerous individual, just pay more and we won't put the conditions on you that your behavior calls for? Just "pay" us more and we will magically remove those conditions of bond, like no drink, ankle bracelet, travel, etc.!! What BULLSHEET! But the state gets more in the coffer don't they if one wants that... Hmmm. NO flight risk either are they....

And if they flee and don't show up, the state keeps the bond. Hmm a no brainer what this is about BUT who cares about the safety of the public or the victim(s) already the perp harmed....

A former dance instructor in Cleveland was sentenced to nearly four centuries in prison this week for sex crimes involving children.

For some 21 years, Terence Greene, 57, sexually abused his students at the Cleveland School of the Arts and Cuyahoga Community College – with his vast array of crimes ranging between 1998 and 2019, authorities said.

In late May, after a week-long trial, he was found guilty of 65 crimes total – including 16 counts of rape, 25 counts of sexual battery, 13 counts of kidnapping, eight counts of felonious assault, two counts of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, and one count of gross sexual imposition, according to local ABC affiliate WEWS. He was acquitted on two counts of rape, four counts of sexual battery, and one count each of gross sexual imposition, kidnapping, and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.

On Thursday afternoon, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Kevin Kelley sentenced Green to 365 years in Buckeye State prison.

<snip>

During the sentencing hearing, the defendant did not deny the underlying actions – referring to himself as a “giver,” WEWS reported.

Two victims testified that they became HIV-positive after being raped by Greene. The defendant knew his status since 2004.

“He is a monster,” Assistant County Prosecutor Steve Szelagiewicz said during the hearing, the paper reported. “He deserves every minute that this court can give him. I know it’s a mandatory life sentence. He shouldn’t get a free pass for any of the assaults he committed. He deserves to spend every minute.”

It's too bad they couldn't save his life with the technology he so loathed. Just to live for another year or two.
