ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

And just WHY is the mother not identified? She was arrested. Maybe she isn't charged yet and when she is she will be named.

This is horrid.

What is even sadder is if he was last seen in March and this is June and the family has called 13 times in this half year, they TRIED unlike some cases where we see the child hasn't been seen in a year or more although sometimes people have tried to find out in those too. It didn't do any good here though and was too late.

So family offered to take care of him and she refused. Why? My guess is money and hiding the body too money probably kept coming in.

Smh.

Name the witch and give the child a name here too.
some are just control freaks, too and have the same type of attitude that a lot of abusers have that "if I can't have him, nobody can". I see this as being the main mindset in those that won't let others take care of their kids that they obviously either can't or won't do themselves.

That did cross my mind too or almost like a "pride" thing. They don't take care of them BUT won't admit they don't/can't but this one it sounds like said as much to family, that she couldn't... But yeah, it is certainly possible and then she may not like the person who offered or it is someone that is on her all of the time so she refuses...

She probably did though receive assistance and benefits for his disabilities so I think that is just as likely. Odd that they didn't even try to remove him from the home but instead had him in the freezer. Awful case.

Wow, great job by WI boys and leaders.

I am so unfamiliar with Amtrak. There are uncontrolled dirt road intersections? So like a normal train tracks/rail, some with lights and cross arms and others one is on there own? I have never traveled it, never encountered one or even seen one much less come across a crossing for one. Others are probably more familiar? I didn't imagine it could be that way... Isn't it fairly high speed most of the time?

I think there is a station in MN downtown and I have seen signs for one or two others in cities I've been through or to but never been in the actual stations. Don't you at least start out underground as I think the ones I've seen have steps down just like a subway probably would? And then I thought they went high above over traffic or below or through areas they don't deal with much cross traffic if any? Interested in knowing more...

In addition to the truck driver, two people aboard the train died when the engines struck the truck at an uncontrolled intersection with a gravel road shortly after 12:30 p.m. At least 50 people were injured.|

very few rr crossings in rural areas have anything but maybe a light if you are lucky. They have been complaining about those foe as long as I can remember for this very reason. Amtrack uses the same rails as freight does.

It DOES? I thought it was different or only for Amtrak I guess. We don't have it on our rails to my knowledge, not the freight ones, many of which they have up and going again which were down for some years. etc. Yes lots of rural ones without lights but I didn't know Amtrak ran on that old rail system, etc. Wow. .

yep. that particular track they say has over 60 freight trains a day on those tracks also. Here the station is it's own, but then those tracks merge with the rest.

here is a map of all of the Amtrak routes. They all use the same rails as freight, just not as many routes.

I have also found out that the particular track this accident happened is owned by BNSF and that intersection was supposed to be improved later this year, but no date scheduled.
