ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

If this one hasn't been seen, I suggest watching it. Just how does this happen?? Something went way wrong here, who are guarding these men and work in these prisons?? Nothing like the White case, we know how that happened. Scary stuff here.

So they shackled his feet and hands, Got out of them and overtook the driver. The other guard... How?! Had to be negligence. WTH?!
With a weapon that he somehow got out of search with and onto the bus or it was on the bus. And not only getting cuffs and shackles off but he can cut a hole in the driver opening and/or get through there, wouldn't this take just a bit of time and wouldn't they notice? Two officers with time to shoot or do something? I mean I guess they did but something is really, really wrong here... AND they haven't found him yet...?

I'd say the employees here probably better be looked at... These guys are supposed to be in PRISON, not a playschool.

Hard to say what happened but this one here has more than a few "oops" it seems...

Yeah there are some big things being left out here. It doesn't make sense him getting out of restraints if he was watched. Overpower guard, Get into cage separating the driver, Overpower him and take control of the bus and escape. HUH?!

And there were two guards on the bus right?? And apparently the "strip search" wasn't thorough unless someone provided the weapon, etc... I don't want to accuse anyone but I'd have to wonder if guard's wounds were superficial or one of them was involved... I mean something doesn't add up here.

It's really tragic about White. She should have known better. Those last days of her life, Just so sad.
I agree but it is hard for me to sympathize although maybe that's unfair, I don't know what she was thinking but it was clear even at the end, she had no remorse or thought of just surrendering so she made her choices. What an ending though for her, hard to believe it is how anyone would want to be remembered.
