Why does that even matter?
Because he has been inside for 20 years. Why do you even ask?

Its equivalent to nearly a $1000 anyway but ignore it if you don't care. It's still a small amount after 20 years.

I wonder why he never got parole?

Ah - he had prior convictions which is why he got so long.

They finally admitted their mistake prosecuting him at all. He purchased the money order from the actual perps who had stolen it.

Hopefully he will get some compensation now.

20 years for $550?
They never listened to him at all and just convicted him without any real investigating, it seems.

"Early on, Windley told prosecutors what he knew about the men who sold him the money order: their nicknames, and some information about their legal names. After his conviction, a friend and private investigators helped him flesh out the men's identities and persuade the men to come forward about what had happened, according to the D.A's report. "

After 46 years, a family thought they had closure in the disappearance of their 6-year-old. Now, they’ll face another trial

On Tuesday, Manhattan prosecutors said they will put a man on trial for a third time after his conviction in the missing child case was overturned in July.

“After thorough review, the district attorney has determined that the available, admissible evidence supports prosecuting (the) defendant on the charges of murder in the second degree and kidnapping in the first degree,” Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Sarah Marquez wrote in a letter to a New York State Supreme Court justice.

A conference in the case against Pedro Hernandez, 64, who was convicted during his second trial in 2017 of murdering and kidnapping Etan, was scheduled for Monday. He worked at a bodega near Etan’s home when the boy disappeared.

A federal appeals court in July overturned his conviction, ruling that a trial judge was “clearly wrong” in a response to a 2017 jury question about Hernandez’s confessions, Associated Press reported.

“We are deeply disappointed in the decision … to retry Pedro Hernandez for a third time,” said defense attorney Harvey Fishbein in a statement, adding his client “is innocent of the charges.”

“But if this 46-year-old case is actually retried, we will be ready,” he said.

Etan’s parents, who moved to Honolulu in 2019, declined to comment to CNN.

“People would love to see the family finally get – I don’t think closure – but some sense of resolution,” Lisa R. Cohen, the author of “After Etan: The Missing Child Case that Held America Captive,” told CNN.

“And I think they thought they got that in 2017 and now it’s back.”

Under federal court rulings, AP reported, jury selection for Hernandez’s retrial must begin by June 1, or he must be released from prison.

“There’s not like this incredible resolution,” Cohen said. “Certainly not now, because they’re now going to start a whole ‘nother era of this case.”

A man formerly suspected in infamous case of NYC missing child Etan Patz has died

A man who was suspected for decades — before another man was charged — in the 1979 disappearance of New York first grader Etan Patz has died, authorities said this week.

Jose Antonio Ramos died March 7 at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, prosecutors wrote in a court filing in the case of Pedro Hernandez — the man now facing a third trial in Etan's haunting and infamous case. It helped to make missing children a national cause in the United States.

Ramos, 82, denied abducting the 6-year-old and was never charged in his disappearance. But Ramos’ history has been part of a complicated picture painted through nearly a half-century of investigation, Hernandez's criminal trials and a wrongful death lawsuit against Ramos himself.

Couple forced 14-year-old to be their surrogate mother, impregnated her with twins: police
A couple allegedly forced a 14-year-old girl to be their surrogate mother, resulting in the child being impregnated with twins.

According to court documents obtained by KFOR, authorities began investigating 36-year-olds Nathan Potier and Erica Palmer after learning that the 14-year-old victim was pregnant with twins. The relationship of the 14-year-old and Potier and Palmer was not specified, but she was placed into foster care after the investigation began.

Palmer allegedly told police that she wanted to have children with Potier but could not because her tubes were tied. Authorities obtained a warrant to test Potier's DNA against the teen's children, but Potier and Palmer allegedly fled the state before a DNA test could be done.

Potier had allegedly previously been accused of sexually abusing the same victim, which Palmer was aware of.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office announced that both Palmer and Potier were arrested on March 17 after learning they were hiding in the area around Reno, Nevada.

Palmer was charged with enabling sexual abuse of a child, and Potier was charged with sexual assault of a child.

Yeah i got a similar amount but rounded it to 1000. I can't believe your inflation has been so low. I guess ours would be similar. I guess we are lucky.

House prices here have more than tripled but I guess that doesn't contribute to inflation?
Out of interest I just did it for £500 and it said the equivalent now would be £939. So our inflation has been worse than yours.

  • Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, Md., was arrested in Charlottesville, Va., and arraigned in Charles County for the fatal shooting of 27‑year‑old Bradrick Michael Wells.
  • Webber was arrested at a Virginia hospital and faces first- and second-degree murder charges as he awaits extradition to Charles County.
LA PLATA, Md. - A professional cornhole player and quadruple amputee has been formally charged with murder and multiple related offenses in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred in Charles County on March 22, 2026.

What we know:

Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, Md., was arraigned in the District Court of Maryland for Charles County after being located in Charlottesville, Virginia, and arrested following the fatal shooting of 27‑year‑old Bradrick Michael Wells, according to court documents.

According to the statement of charges filed by Det. M. Bigelow of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Dayton Webber picked up two witnesses from work in a vehicle, with Bradrick Wells already in the front passenger seat. The documents state that, while driving, an argument broke out between Webber and Wells.

The witnesses, identified in the charging documents as W1 and W2, told police that Webber pulled out a firearm and shot Wells twice in the head during the argument. The statement of charges says Webber then pulled the vehicle over and asked the passengers to remove Wells from the car, which they refused.

The two witnesses exited the vehicle and flagged down a police officer, the documents state, while Webber drove off with Wells still inside the car. According to the filing, around 12:41 a.m. on March 23, a resident at 10115 Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall discovered Wells’ body on the side of the road.

The statement of charges notes that both W1 and W2 positively identified Webber as the shooter and Wells as the victim, providing the basis for the murder and assault charges currently pending in Charles County District Court.

What we don't know:

Police have not explained how Webber was able to drive a car or fire a weapon.

The backstory:

Webber underwent quadruple amputation as a baby after a blood infection, according to reports. He's a professional cornhole player in the American Cornhole League (ACL).

Well he may as well just plead guilty - he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Had to say it before anyone else did.

How the heck did he get him out of the car even?
