McDonald says no information to suggest suspect bullied in schoolpublished at 20:30

We can bring you a bit more from the press conference with deputy commissioner Dwayne McDonald now.
A reporter asked McDonald if he could talk about "any information you have regarding Jesse experiencing bullying at the school [or] any sort of difficulty at the school because of the transition from male to female".
McDonald said he had no information to suggest this was the case, but Jesse Van Rootselaar dropped out of school around four years ago and wasn't attending school.
The deputy commissioner was then asked why police waited so long to confirm the identity of the suspect.
McDonald said this was because they needed to ensure their information was accurate. They also needed to locate the next of kin of the deceased suspect, he added.
That is the end of our coverage of this briefing, and we will bring you a recap shortly.

McDonald says there is no information at this point to suggest that any of the victims in the school were specifically targeted.
He says that police are still notifying families of the victims. Most of the victims were "quite young", he continues, and most were born in 2012 and 2013.
The majority of those who were injured did not sustain gunshot wounds, he says, but will not speculate on further details.

Incident at the residence occurred first, says officerpublished at 20:13

Giving more details about the shooting of the suspect's family members at a local residence, McDonald says the police were called to this scene after they were called to the school.
The police were called by a young female at around 13:47 local time, McDonald says.
Officers were called because a young female at the home went to her neighbours. This female was a family member of the victims at the home and the suspect, he explains.
The incident at the home occurred first, then the suspect went to the school, he tells the press.

Police 'don't have an idea yet' of motivepublished at 20:08

McDonald says the police "don't have an idea yet" as to what the suspect's motive was, and that it's something investigators are "passionately pursuing".
The officer is asked where in the school the victims were killed. He says one victim was found dead in the stairwell, and the rest were located in the school's library.
Asked to comment on the environment of the suspect's family home, McDonald says he cannot comment at this point.
