Tanner is missing with his brothers, Alexander and Andrew. Their mother, Tanya Lynn Zuvers Skelton, had filed for divorce from their father, John Russell Skelton, in September 2010 and had custody of the boys.

John took them for a court-ordered visitation over Thanksgiving, and never returned them. That last time anyone besides John saw them was at 5:00 p.m. on November 25, the day before their disappearances were reported.

John stated he gave the boys to a woman named Joann Taylor, whom he had met on the internet several years before, and asked her to return them to their mother. He said he did this because he planned to commit suicide and didn't want the boys to see it. He stated Joann was married to a pastor named Mark, drove a white or silver minivan and lived in either Hillsdale, Michigan or Jackson County, Michigan.

John attempted to hang himself later that day, but survived and was hospitalized, first at a general hospital and then at a psychiatric facility in Ohio.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the Skelton brothers, but they could find no sign of them and no indication that Joann Taylor even existed. Police said they believed the boys were in "grave danger." They said they believed John's story about Joann Taylor was fictitious and something else caused the Skelton children's disappearances.

Investigators stated they were investigating the disappearances as homicides, and John was the prime suspect. They said John's blue Dodge Caravan was on the Ohio Turnpike, along the Michigan-Ohio border, between 4:00 and 7:00 a.m. on November 26, and asked anyone who saw it to come forward. It has the Michigan license plate number 9JQ H93.

John has stated his children are still alive but will never be returned as long as their mother has custody of them. His relatives and Tanya don't believe he would have harmed them.

Extremely high bond!

Michigan man charged with killing sons in 2010 held on $60 million bond

John Skelton, the man now charged with killing his three sons 15 years after they disappeared, is being held on $60 million bond.

Skelton was charged last week and arraigned Monday on three counts each of open murder and tampering with evidence. He remains lodged at the Lenawee County Jail, according to Michigan State Police.

Authorities say Skelton remains “uncooperative” with investigators, having last been interviewed on Nov. 3

A probable cause affidavit regarding Skelton’s most recent charges does not specifically address what new information led to the open murder charges. The document does, however, say Skelton has continued to mislead investigators.

“The most recent interview with John Skelton was conducted on November 3rd, 2025, and Skelton continues to be uncooperative and failed to provide investigators with any information to locate his missing sons,” the affidavit says.

“In the fifteen years that have passed since the disappearance of the three Skelton boys, investigators have searched exhaustively for the missing children with nil results,” the affidavit says. “The ‘underground sanctuary’ has also been extensively investigated, and no such organization has been found to exist.”
60 MILLION!!! I don't think I've ever seen a ball that high before.

Court docs shed new light on Skelton murder charges

Court documents have provided some new information on what led prosecutors to file murder charges against John Skelton nearly 15 years after his three sons disappeared and are presumed dead.

NBC affiliate WDIV-TV in Detroit has published the probable cause affidavit that was filed last week by Lenawee County Prosecuting Attorney Jacqueline Wyse.

The investigation started in November of 2010. Skelton and the boys’ mother, Tonya Zuvers, had separated earlier in the year. Their three sons, 9-year-old Andrew, 7-year-old Alexander and 5-year-old Tanner Skelton, each went missing after spending the Thanksgiving holiday with their father in 2010.

John Skelton had given investigators several different statements, including one when he said the boys were handed off to other people for their own safety and claimed they would “hibernate until they graduate."

The probable cause affidavit reveals that John Skelton was first found by investigators at a local hospital after a “failed suicide attempt” and that his home was heavily damaged.

“When officers responded to John’s home in Morenci, Michigan, the house was in total disarray,” the affidavit states. “John completely destroyed furniture and other items in the home.”

Investigators also looked through Skelton’s computer and found that within the past week he had searched “different ways to kill a person,” according to the affidavit.

He is due to return to court next Tuesday for a probable cause hearing.

Skelton appeared in court via Zoom on Nov. 24 for a probable cause conference. This type of hearing is typically procedural, held before a preliminary hearing, during which a judge reviews the case and determines whether there’s enough evidence for trial.

At the hearing, the public defender’s office requested that it be adjourned to December because they are still reviewing a large amount of discovery.

A judge granted their request and pushed the probable cause conference to Dec. 17 at 1 p.m.

New tips coming to Michigan State Police regarding missing Morenci boys

With a murder charge pending, Michigan State Police are telling the 13 Action News I-TEAM that new tips are now coming in regarding the missing Morenci boys.

Their father John Skelton is charged with murder and the public is once again giving investigators potentially new information.

15 years ago over the Thanksgiving weekend, those tips really started coming in. That’s the last time anyone has seen the Skelton boys. So this holiday always resonates with people in southwest Michigan and that could bring about that crucial piece of information.

When Michigan State Police and Lenawee County prosecutors charged Skelton with the murders of his sons Alexander, Andrew and Tanner Skelton earlier this month, the public started calling investigators.

“We did see an influx or increase in tips coming through. Our detectives are following up on all of those of course to build on this case should some thing come up,” said Lt. Rene Gonzalez.

The boys disappeared 15 years ago, with no signs of them since. Even with the murder charges and the pending trial, there’s still more investigators would potentially use in trying to get a conviction: information the public may still have.

“We may be getting information that’s very old or will be. We have to follow up on that. There’s a chance that maybe someone knows something out there and we try to follow up and they’re not there anymore,” said Lt. Gonzalez.

Lt. Gonzalez says his sector of the state police has secured two convictions recently on cases without bodies. And at this point there is no sign of the Skelton boys. While that makes for a tricky cases, finding them would really change the entire complexion of a trial.

“What we’re looking for, find those boys so we can have some closure for the family,” said Lt. Gonzalez.

Skelton is expected back in court next month. Already some court dates have been pushed back so don’t expect to see a trial until well into 2026.

Case moves forward as missing Skelton boys’ father faces murder charges

The case against John Skelton, the Michigan man now facing charges for killing his three sons more than a decade ago, is moving forward.

Skelton appeared in court Wednesday for a brief probable cause hearing. The judge set Skelton’s preliminary exam for May 11, 2026. That hearing is expected to span multiple weeks.

During the preliminary hearing, the judge will determine whether there’s enough evidence for Skelton to be sent to trial.

Skelton was charged last month with open murder and tampering with evidence, just weeks before he was set to be released from prison.

A probable cause affidavit regarding Skelton’s most recent charges does not specifically address what new information led to the open murder charges. The document does, however, say Skelton has continued to mislead investigators.

Wow. Durst was technically a serial killer IMO. Just not the textbook example. People that could bring him down. However, zi believe he is responsible for the disappearance of the girl that visited him and his wife Kathy's store"All Good Things". In Vermont. Lynn Schulze in 1971. Her bike was abandoned right outside the store. Why? IDK. I believe he killed Kathy. He killed her dog and Kathy knew it. He killed Morris Black. The trial was a joke. They were fighting in Durst's apartment, and he fell on his neck. He dismembered Black. The courtroom was laughing. Acquitted. I found nothing funny. And I believe he killed his friend Kathy in California. During the 6 part series on HBO. "The Jinx," His mic was still on. He was talking to himself. "Because you did it, that's why". I don't remember the beginning of his sentence. There is a movie based on him with Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst. Also called "All Good Things" that's good.

I knew they weren't going to convict Jackson. Madoff blamed his victims. He was a real POS. I don't remember the name of it. But it was a movie based on the incident. Deniro played him. Michelle Pfeifer played his wife. I liked it.

Key exam in murder case against John Skelton moved to August

A preliminary examination in the murder case against John Skelton, accused of killing his three sons more than a decade ago, has been adjourned for a second time and rescheduled for Aug. 24.

Testimony was originally expected to begin May 11 in Lenawee County's 2A District Court, a date set following arraignment in December 2025. The hearing was later moved to July, then August.

During a preliminary examination, prosecutors are expected to present witnesses and evidence aimed at establishing probable cause. If a judge determines that threshold has been reached, the case will proceed to Lenawee County Circuit Court.

Skelton remains lodged in the Lenawee County Jail.
