Search for missing Maine girl who was last seen 4 weeks ago continues, police say

State and federal authorities continue to search for a girl from northern Maine who went missing nearly a month ago.

Maine State Police officials said Tuesday that 14-year-old Stefanie Damron remains missing despite extensive investigative efforts.

Stefanie, who was 13 when she went missing on Sept. 23, was last seen walking out of her New Sweden home and into the woods located on West Road, according to authorities.

Members of the Maine State Police's Troop F and Major Crimes Unit North began investigating the circumstances surrounding Stefanie's disappearance. The MSP Computer Crimes Unit and the FBI's Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team were also called upon to help ensure all resources were utilized in the search for Stefanie.

Investigators said they have conducted many interviews and have followed up on leads in Maine, nationally and in Canada. The Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police K-9 Unit have also searched large parcels of land near Stefanie's last known location in Aroostook County.

there was one this reminds me of and darned if i can think of the name. the parents were being reported if i recall to CPS, etc. and the dad moved them, home schooling started, and he was molesting the girl. there were other siblings as well. anyhow she DID flee. they were controlled over use of phone, internet, etc. but through a gaming app was talkign to a guy. he was from WI. she was a minor, 16 I think? but he wasn't. she told him what her dad was doing to her and he went down to get her and help her escape. he lived, if i recall it correctly in his mom's basement. he took her back there. of course they did have sex and he ended up in fed prison i think for ten years. despite the fact he saved her and she was consensual, it was still statutory rape. she was smart enough to take a sheet which had evidence of the molestation, DNA, and the dropped it or sent it to the FBI or something. she was found that way or some such, can't recall but once she was found, her name went silent and she was a minor. initially the public thought she was dad's daughter but if i recall right, she was actually a stepdaughter. Dad was charged, federally i am pretty sure, and the stupid mother last I knew was standing by him but imo should have been charged as well. I don't know the disposition of that case or what finally resulted. Can't recall...

this case reminds me sooooo much of that one. they went off grid, homeschooled, etc. because wrongdoing was going on..."dad" was extremely controlling and was also molesting her. I think he may have with her sister as well, can't recall... she had no way out but found one.

difficult case in that the guy from WI really DID save her, BUT she had sex with him and he ended up in trouble. I normally wouldn't say she did, but she was willing, I think she said as much in hopes he would not be charged.

his mother supposedly did not know she was in the basement living there... Kind of hard to believe too but who knows...

Anyone recall that case?

Maine marks 500 days since teen girl vanished from New Sweden home
It has been 500 days since a Maine girl vanished from her family’s home in New Sweden.

On Dec. 2, 2024, the FBI and Maine State Police offered a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to the safe return of Stefanie and/or the arrest and prosecution of anyone involved in her disappearance.

The FBI said despite extensive investigative efforts, including a neighborhood canvas and video search, along with an expansive grid search utilizing canines by the Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police, Stefanie remains missing.

Investigators said they have also conducted dozens of interviews, and followed up on potential leads in Maine, across the country, and in Canada.

In the 500 days since her disappearance, there have been no confirmed sightings of Stefanie.

Stefanie turned 15 years old on October 6, 2025.

Community members are urging you to keep Stefanie in your thoughts, saying that Stefanie deserved to be "remembered, discussed, and actively searched for."
