Memphis Police Department is searching for a missing child.

Saquoia Samuels, 4, was reported missing Thursday morning.

Police issued a city watch at 7:55 a.m. after parents say they woke up to find the front door of their home open and Saquoia missing.

Police say they are reviewing footage from a neighbor’s doorbell camera that shows her leaving the home and walking by herself around 3 a.m.

There are also drones in the area searching for the girl.

Brittney Jackson, 24, was arrested after reporting her daughter Sequoia Samuels had disappeared from their home in June.

Sequoia’s body was later found in a garbage bin outside the family’s home.

Brittney Jackson is charged with aggravated child neglect, abuse of a corpse, and filing a false report.

Her attorney sought a mental evaluation soon after her arrest.

She’s due back in court September 7.

Jackson’s boyfriend Jaylon Hobson is also charged in the case.

I'm not surprised. The oft used not unusual game number one out of the gate didn't work. Her atty. wanted the eval done in a timely manner being frustrated with the pace of the case and the clerk not getting it out on time to get it done as IF some poor mentally unfit woman needed help. Well he has the results now. And it's a NO GO.

I can't wait to see what's next by the defense and what his "pace" is. Come on, let's do speedy trial here. He is all prepared right? Just like Kohberger's attorney was. Yeah, right. I'm going to remember though this defense attorney remarking about the pace of things the first time he tries to delay anything... Games. Tactics.

Imo a court of law should be a serious place. with no bullsh*t allowed. It's a nice dream anyway. And jmo.

Brittney Jackson, the mother charged in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, made an appearance in court Thursday morning.

Jackson, who was arrested in the death of Sequoia Samuels, is facing charges of abuse of a corpse, aggravated child abuse and neglect, and making a false report.


During Thursday’s brief court hearing, a judge ordered Jackson to return to court on October 5. Jackson’s attorney, Kenneth Brashier, previously requested that Jackson undergo a mental evaluation, which was granted. There has been no word on the status of the evaluation.

Jackson is currently still in the Shelby County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Hobson, who is currently charged with making a false report, is in jail on a $50,000 bond.

The Memphis mother accused in the death of her 4-year-old daughter appeared in court Thursday morning. 24-year-old Brittney Jackson is charged with aggravated child neglect, abuse of a corpse, and filing a false report.

In court on Thursday, Jackson waived her right to a preliminary hearing and her attorney explained why:

“In her best interest, and because we’ve kind of waited, the risk just didn’t seem like worth the reward,” said Kenneth Brashier. “So what we decided today was to basically skip the preliminary hearing, waive that, and we’ll now be waiting on an indictment as far as the charges. I think it’s just kind of a wait-and-see. I expect the charges to be probably more serious than the present charges.”

Brashier also said his client’s mental health was a factor in waiving the hearing.

Shortly after Jackson’s arrest, she was placed on suicide watch. Brashier says with Jackson now finding some peace, he did not want her back “where she was day one.”

Jackson is now awaiting a grand jury indictment.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The paternal grandmother of Sequoia Samuels said her family is pleased with the recent indictment of Samuels’ mother and mother’s boyfriend in the four-year-old’s death investigation.

Sequoia’s human remains were found in North Memphis in July after Memphis police said her mother, Brittney Jackson, and her mother’s boyfriend, Jaylon Hobson, filed a false missing person report.

A Shelby County Grand Jury indicted Jackson, 25, and Hobson, 21, on seven charges, including first-degree murder.

Sequoia’s grandmother, Tara Samuels, said her family is pleased with the indictment.

“I’m glad they got first-degree murder,” Tara said. “We got to take it to trial. But I want it to be all over with. I just don’t want her name to go in vain.”

Jackson and Hobson both remain in Shelby County Jail. Jackson faces a $500K bond while Hobson’s bond in this case was revoked

The Memphis mother charged in the death of Sequoia Samuels appeared in Shelby County Court pregnant Monday morning.

Brittney Jackson, 25, and Jaylon Hobson, 21, are both facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder for the death of Samuels.

Jackson appeared in court pregnant, with her public defender confirming she has made arrangements with a family member to take custody of the baby when it is born.

Jackson and her attorney pleaded not guilty to the charges she’s facing, including first-degree murder. Hobson appeared in court without an attorney Monday.

Both suspects are due back in court on Jan. 8. The court appearance will be a bond hearing for Jackson, while it will be a deadline for Hobson to have an attorney hired before a public defender is appointed.

$1M bond for mom accused of hiding child’s body in bags​

A woman charged along with her boyfriend in the violent death of her 4-year-old daughter is now being held on a $1 million bond.

In October, Brittney Jackson, 25, and Jaylon Hobson, 22, were indicted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and making a false report in the death of Sequoia Samuels.


Jackson was being held without bond. Thursday, her attorney asked a judge to release Jackson on her own recognizance.

The couple was indicted in October, and Hobson’s bond was revoked.

Jackson is due back in court for a hearing on April 18.

Shelby County prosecutors and the defense attorney for Brittney Jackson are still waiting for the autopsy report of Sequoia Samuels more than one year after her death.

Jackson was not required to appear in court Wednesday, but her defense attorney, Ken Brashier, appeared for an update.


Brashier said neither his team nor Shelby County prosecutors have received the finalized autopsy report, and they are also still going through evidence.

“There are statements that were alleged to been made by different people,” he explained. “We need those statements. There are videos that are alleged to have been taken. We need those videos. There are pictures that are alleged to have been taken. We need those pictures. This is not unusual, not to have all of those things. It’s a slow process gathering all of this discovery.”

Both defendants remain in Shelby County Jail.

“Brittney’s doing great,” Brashier explained. “She’s really had some time to get back to being Brittney. She was under the impression of this co-defendant/ex-boyfriend of hers for so long that she forgot who she was. Jail’s not a place that people like to be that she’s able to be herself there now.”

At Jackson’s last court appearance in November, she appeared pregnant.

Her attorney said she’s since delivered her newest baby, and her family has custody of the child.

Her next court appearance will be Aug. 8.

I had to refresh with just a few first posts on the first page on this one. I see I figured it was the parents (mom and bf I should say) and now I recall that but held back because she was seen on camera outside the home allegedly alone. It was flat out odd she was dressed at that hour was another thing.

So did we ever learn more, I can't recall and don't want to read all pages.

A neighbor claimed to have seen her with a black man but LE wouldn't confirm or even denied at the time.

So did the parents ENSURE she was seen alive and then take her and kill her? How cold and premeditated is THAT?

Suspect no-show for court date after child’s body found in trash​

The man charged in the death of his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter after police found her in a trash can was a no-show in court Monday morning.

Jaylon Hobson is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse, abuse of corpse, tampering with/fabricating evidence, and false offense report.

During Hobson’s scheduled court appearance on Monday, his attorney Michael Scholl told WREG that the defense is sifting through lots of evidence.

“We have a lot of documents, we have a lot of video which you also have his body cam video, those types of things from the crime scene,” Scholl said. “There were multiple jail calls turned over to us.”

More than 2,000 jail calls according to Scholl.

Scholl asked Judge Jennifer Mitchell for more time because he said there are a lot of unknowns with the case.



On June 15, 2023, Hobson’s girlfriend, Brittney Jackson, reported to Memphis Police that her 4-year-old daughter Sequoia was missing from their home on Caldwell.

However, after further investigation, the child’s body was found in a trash can near her apartment.

According to court documents, Jackson told investigators Sequoia had been dead for weeks, and they had been storing her body in garbage bags inside their house.

She said Hobson had attacked Sequoia multiple times, and after the last attack, she was unresponsive. MPD says that Jackson also admitted she never rendered aid.



More information could be learned about Hobson’s case on November 15 when both the defense and prosecution are ordered to return and tell the court if they are ready to proceed or if more time is needed.
