Pregnant San Antonio teen missing after failing to show up at the hospital

A pregnant San Antonio 18-year-old girl has been reported missing after her mother says she was scheduled to be induced and failed to show up on Saturday, December 23. A news report by KENS 5 said she was a week past her due date when she was scheduled to be induced.

Gloria Cordova said that she last heard from her daughter Savanah Nicole Soto on Friday, December 22, and is worried about her safety. Cordova said she could not find her daughter at her apartment prior to the scheduled appointment, and reported her daughter missing to the Leon Valley Police Department at the hospital after she never showed up. She said that "something seemed off."

She told KENS 5 that Soto's phone was dead and police could not get ahold of her boyfriend. Cordova identified Soto's boyfriend as Mathew Guerra to MySA. MySA reached out to police to confirm whether a missing persons report has been filed for Guerra.

“Savanah was so, so happy because she was going to be a mommy, it breaks my heart,” Cordova said.

Cordova said her daughter was ready to be a mom. She had the nursey done and had planned on giving birth with her mother in the delivery room.

However, by Saturday afternoon, Cordova could not reach her daughter. She decided to check on her at her apartment.

“I went by there and knocked and knocked and knocked and she wasn’t answering,” Cordova said.

She said she was not home and her phone appeared dead.

“We got to the hospital, they said she wasn’t there,” Cordova said.

She filed a police report with Leon Valley Police. She said something seemed off and they could not get a hold of her boyfriend, either.

“We don’t even know what happened, they said it could be anything,” Cordova said.

This comes at time when Cordova is still grieving the loss of another child.

“It’s hard, it’s like one after another,” Cordova said.

Last year, she said her 15-year-old son was killed. Now, on Christmas Eve, she has no idea where her 18-year-old daughter is.

“It still hurts because what I tell my kids, I’m not complete, I’m not complete and now I don’t have my daughter,” She said.

She is urging anyone with any information to come forward.

"Please come home, no one's going to judge you, no one is going to say nothing," Cordova said. "I just want you to be home."

I am only going to point out what I often do on cases. Here is yet another that just sits, lingers, and does not move.... Our system is effed up, it does not moved, cases just languish, what is \really irritating is the people get their paychecks but NO ONE is doing their job/s....

Every single one of us can name so many cases, I can name a ton but am going to just name ONE for now, Megan Boswell. Killed allegedly her daughter Evelyn. That case has lingered and sat forever with no explanation at ALL. Megan has had years in the county jail where she is probably A-OK. County is NOT prison...

I am not going to deny that I am tired, cranky and majorly hurting but people need to start doing their jobs in this country or they need to hire people that do in many arenas. The legal system is one that never even comes close to running efficiently...

I have insurance and I DESERVE to see a doctor an even get a scan when I am seriously injured!

Air traffic controllers should have like TRIPLE back up, it is a SERIOUS job too.

And then people are just so ambivalent about it all...

And it only gets worse...

Okay. Done. I'd probably better be...

Trial date set for suspects accused of helping hide bodies in Savanah Soto/Matthew Guerra killings

The parents accused of helping their son after he allegedly killed a pregnant San Antonio teen and her boyfriend in December 2023 will soon head to trial.

According to online court documents, the combined jury trial for Myrta Romanos, 47, and Ramon Preciado, 54, is scheduled to get underway March 31, more than 15 months after the bodies of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra were found in a car in a San Antonio parking lot.

Ramon Preciado is charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Romanos is accused of those same crimes, as well as tampering with evidence with intent to impair a human corpse.

A trial date for Chris Preciado, charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence, has not been set.

DA won't seek death penalty for Preciado in murder of Soto, Guerra, and unborn child
The DA decided on Friday not to seek the death penalty for Christopher Preciado.

He was charged with capital murder for the deaths of Savannah Soto, Matthew Guerra, and their unborn baby.

Family faces civil suit over deaths of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra

The family accused of various roles in the killing and alleged coverup of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra, two young parents to be, are now facing a civil suit form the parents of the deceased. Amongst the accusations hurled against him, 19-year-old Christopher Preciado maintains he’s innocent, at least in the civil suit.

On March 27, Gabriel Guerra, father of Matthew Guerra, and Gloria Cordova, mother of Soto, sued Preciado and his parents for their children’s deaths. Preciado, his father Ramon Preciado and stepmother Myrta Romanos all received summons. The younger Preciado appears to be the only person to respond, filling a letter with the Bexar County District Clerk’s Office on April 23 asserting his innocence.

As of Friday, April 25, Preciado’s letter had not been scanned and uploaded to Bexar County records. Thus, MySA could not yet obtain a copy.

The parents who filed the suit say they’ve suffered and will continue to suffer mental anguish, a loss of inheritance, a loss of community estate building, funeral and burial costs, loss of love and support among other damages. As reparation, the two are seeking more than $1 million in damages from the family accused of killing the couple and allegedly covering up the crime.

“On or about December 21, 2023, [Christopher Preciado] callously caused the deaths of Matthew Guerra and Savanah Soto by fatally shooting them,” the lawsuit reads before going on to accuse Preciado’s parents of helping cover up the scene. “At the time of her death, Savanah Soto was pregnant with her and Matthew’s only child, Fabian Noel Guerra, who also tragically lost his life.”

The accusations outlined in the civil suit closely, if not exactly, mirror the felony charges against the junior and senior Preciado and Romanos. Christopher Preciado is charged with felony murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. His father and stepmother are also facing several felony charges including tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Early on in April, a special committee met to determine whether or not prosecutors would pursue the death penalty against the younger Preciado. Ultimately, it was decided Preciado would not face death himself despite pleas from Soto’s and Guerra’s family.

Okay i covered a bit lawsuits in Pike tonight I think. I agree at times and disagree at times.

Not sure what I think here.

I'm never ever anti victim but there are admittedly some whose lifestyles put them more at risk.

This is one of those. On the other hand, the murdering family is quite evil.

If it's just for money and $$$ I don't necessarily agree but if it is to get info or evidence or reimburse for what it takes to bury, attend trial and all of that, loss of income, that is understandable depending on the case.

Been awhile since looking at this one, but the victims IF true were selling drugs, acting gangsta online and so on. Not sure what the entire story is as to why killed but not pure innocents.

I am victim first even if doing such or other things but now the family is suing and I'm not sure what I think of it, so I guess like said in some others, will see how it shakes out...

I both agree and disagree with monetary lawsuits depending... Don't see any hint here they plan on doing some foundation or something in their names, and i doubt they lost a million dollars... I didn't read the links, just the posts, not up to it, just to be clear. So may have missed something.

It does cost just to attend hearings and trials without a doubt. Been there, so has all of my family. Used up leave, vacation days, you name it, traveled.

I don't know. Guess another day I just need to know more about it and maybe read the links.

Sadder than heck about dad, mom, baby. Murderers, other family is bad. However, they were selling drugs were they not?? Again victim first, but not exactly living a clean life expecting a firstborn.

Court record reveals new details in Savanah Soto murder case

A jury trial date officially has been for the family accused of multiple roles in the death and subsequent cover up of a pair of young parents to be in San Antonio. The move comes a year and a half after the couple was killed and months after an earlier trial date was mysteriously cancelled without explanation.

According to Bexar County court records, Christopher Preciado and his parents are set to face a jury on November 3. Preciado is faced with three felony charges, including capital murder of multiple persons, abuse of a corpse and evidence tampering. After a failed attempt at a bond reduction, Preciado has remained in the Bexar County Jail since his initial arrest on January 3, 2024.

He’s accused of killing expecting mother, Savanah Soto, and the child’s father, Matthew Guerra, just days before Christmas in 2023.

Case dismissed against stepmom accused in triple murder case
All charges were dismissed Wednesday against the stepmom accused of helping her stepson conceal evidence in a triple murder.

Judge Jennifer Pena of the 290th District Court dropped all charges against Mytra Romanos after she denied the prosecution's request for a continuance due to the declining health of a family member.

"This is something that was foreseeable some time ago. It has continued to be foreseeable," one of the prosecuting attorneys said. "The only prior prosecutor who is prepared to try this case is Austin Stout. He no longer works entirely for this office."

"We were ready for trial. She's been in jail two years already. So we asked for our trial, and today, at the trial setting her cases were all dismissed," explained Charles Bunk, defense attorney for Myrta Romanos. "She's going to get out. I don't know where she's going to go, but she'll get out."

Romanos had faced multiple charges in connection with the deaths of Savannah Soto, her boyfriend Matthew Guerra, and their unborn child, which could have carried decades behind bars if convicted. Jury selection had been scheduled to begin on Wednesday, but Romanos is now set to be released.

We reached out to the district attorney's office for comment. In a statement, they responded, "The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office can confirm that Myrta Romano’s case has been dismissed for further investigation. However, we cannot provide further comment because the related cases are still pending."

We spoke to Matthew Guerra's family, who said:

"We're disappointed. It's another slap in the face. The holidays are coming around. We can't be with Matthew, but they get to spend it together. Despite their crimes and decisions, they can still be together. Very disappointed with the District Attorney and the justice system. There is no communication when things like this happen. We find out through news stations first. Just disappointed. Hoping and praying the charges are refiled. They get to enjoy their freedom."

Despite the dismissal, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office may refile charges against Romanos.

Why is the victim's family stating "they" get to enjoy their freedom and spend holidays together? It was only dismissed against her no? Hopefully they will refile at some point.

Sounds like the prosecuting office better get their ducks in a row and do their job.

2 years after murders of Savanah Soto, Matthew Guerra and unborn child, family still waiting for justice

Two years after the murders of Savanah Soto, her boyfriend Matthew Guerra, and their unborn son, the wait for justice continues for Soto’s family.

Arrests have been made in the case, but Soto’s mother, Gloria Cordova, says the legal process has been long and painful — a reality she knows all too well.

Cordova lost another child in 2022. That case was not resolved until April of this year, when a conviction was finally secured. She says that experience has taught her patience, though the waiting does not make the grief easier.

“I just want to get it over with so we can continue grieving and missing my kids,” Cordova said.

Cordova said community support over the last two years has helped her family cope, but certain milestones remain especially difficult.

“Her birthday just passed, and baby Fabian — that’s who we were looking forward to,” she said. “My daughter was ecstatic about having a baby.”

According to online court records, Christopher Preciado and his father are scheduled to go to trial Feb. 2. Christopher Preciado remains in jail, while his father is out on bond.

A court process not being over does prevent grieving. It's hard to explain in words but it does. One has to see that done and justice hopefully resulting first.

This case is a tough one though. She was young and pregnant but they were dealing drugs. It seems.

Not that they aren't victims and the family that did this apparently the perps.

Not safe lifestyle choices though by a long shot. I remember this one well and the mom's former loss of a "child" too.

I think we have drugs and possibly gang stuff going on here. Drugs for sure.

I do pray justice is served.

Murder trial in Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra case takes new turn

Weeks before the trial of a young man accused of killing a mother and father to be in cold blood, the lead prosecutor set to seek justice is officially resigning. It’s the latest in a struggling and frequently delayed capital murder case.

The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Ryan Groomer, a prosecutor for county, will be resigning. Though, he’s still employed with the DA’s office and has not submitted a formal resignation as of Thursday, January 8.

Groomer was the lead prosecutor in the case against Christopher Preciado, accused of killing Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra in December of 2023 – a young couple just moments away from having a child. The DA’s office says they’re still prepared for the impending February trial date.

“This move will have no impact on the case, and we will remain committed to seeking justice and providing a sense of closure for the Soto and Guerra families,” a spokesperson with the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office told MySA.

Melissa Alban, another assistant criminal district attorney and first-chair felony prosecutor, is set to take over as lead prosecutor in the case. Luckily, she’s had a hand in the case against Preciado from the beginning. Alban is the prosecutor who presented the capital murder case against Preciado to the grand jury for indictment and reviewed the case when it hit the Intake Division.

Well, she has been involved and presented the case to the GJ, all should be fine and she probably knows the case as well as anyone. So hopefully it isn't a big deal...

"Technically" it wasn't negligence (legally) since the state law states they can do that. To me though, if the family had warned them, it should be on the state for not heeding warning.

Capital murder trial for man accused of killing Savanah Soto, Matthew Guerra begins this week

Jury selection in the trial for a man accused of killing Savanah Soto, her boyfriend, Matthew Guerra, and their unborn child, is expected to begin Monday.

Christopher Preciado, 21, is charged with capital murder of multiple persons, tampering with a corpse, and abuse of a corpse. If found guilty of the capital murder charge, Preciado would receive an automatic sentence of life in prison.

Last year, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said it would not be seeking the death penalty in Preciado’s case.

His trial is being held in the 290th District Court with state District Judge Jennifer Pena presiding. Jury selection began Monday afternoon, with testimony starting Tuesday morning.

The trial is expected to last about two weeks, according to Preciado’s defense attorney, Monica Guerrero.

Police also arrested Preciado’s parents, Ramon Preciado and Myrta Romanos, accusing them of helping their son hide the bodies. Ramon Preciado is still awaiting trial, while prosecutors have since dropped the charge against Romanos.

Jury views grisly crime scene photos in Savanah Soto, Matthew Guerra trial

Jurors in the capital murder trial for Christopher Preciado viewed grisly crime scene images from the killings of pregnant teen Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra.

The images showed Soto’s lifeless body in the front passenger seat, a baby’s car seat placed on top of her. Guerra’s Ralph Lauren Polo Bear flip-flops lay on the driver’s side floor, while the 22-year-old’s body was stretched across the backseat.

The photos stirred visible emotion in the courtroom gallery, especially from Guerra’s father, who shifted in his seat and wept as he watched.

The distressing imagery was shown on the second day of the capital murder trial for Preciado, 21, who is facing life in prison if found guilty.

The high-profile trial, which is expected to last two weeks, has brought together several family members of Guerra and Soto to the courtroom.

Preciado’s mother, Myrta Romanos, sat directly behind her son on the first and second day of the trial. She was previously accused of helping her son after the killings, but her charges were dropped in November.

Prosecutors say Preciado, then 19, shot and killed Guerra and Soto on Dec. 21, 2023, during a drug deal, then worked alongside his father to hide the bodies. They said Preciado shot Guerra because he wanted his money, and then shot Soto.

Soto was nine-months pregnant and was scheduled to be induced in two days.

Five days after they were killed, their bodies were found inside Guerra’s Kia, which was parked in the back of an apartment complex on the Northwest Side, blocks away from where Preciado and his family lived.

Images taken of the vehicle showed blood dripping out from the bottom of the car door. First responders who testified said it was clear when they arrived that the couple had been dead for a while.

Investigators found a spent shell casing in the backseat.

Preciado’s defense team says the shooting was done in self-defense. During opening statements, attorney Joseph Esparza said Guerra pointed a gun at Preciado first.

Authorities say that Preciado’s self-defense claim doesn’t hold up.

Soto and Guerra died by a “contact” gunshot wound, meaning the muzzle of the gun was placed directly on their heads.

Several items of value, like Guerra’s wallet, the rings he wore and Soto’s purse were also missing from the crime scene.

I remember this. A drug deal.
