Circumstances of Disappearance
Abrams was last seen when she and her father waved at each other as their cars passed on a rural Will County road in Beecher, Illinois on October 4, 1990.
It was the last time Robin Abrams, a former Will County deputy sheriff, was seen.

Her vehicle, a bright red 1989 Dodge Daytona Hatchback was recovered 11 hours later by police in south suburban Harvey, Illinois. Her keys were still in the ignition inside the locked car.
A nearby resident saw the vehicle dropped off around 22.00 by two men in what was described as a tow truck.

Around 3.00, police were called to the scene by another resident who reported that someone was trying to break into the car. In addition to the keys, police found Abrams camera inside the car.
Police alerted the family by telephone shortly after 3.00.
Three days later her purse was located three blocks away from the car's location. Abram's wallet and credit cards were gone, but her checkbook was still in the purse.

Authorities suspect she met with foul play — and her family believes her disappearance was somehow tied to her job with the Will County Sheriff's Department.
She got hired there in January 1988, and, according to a civil rights lawsuit she filed in late 1989, she had a five-month affair with a married officer involved with the sheriff's auxiliary unit.
The officer harassed her for a year and orchestrated her firing, the lawsuit claimed. And then she vanished.

Robin Abrams Disappeared 31 Years Ago From Will County

Posted Mon, Oct 4, 2021 at 12:00 pm CT|Updated Tue, Oct 5, 2021 at 10:21 am CT

Oct. 4 marked the 31st anniversary of Robin Abrams' disappearance. The missing 28-year-old Will County Sheriff's deputy from Beecher has never been found. Nobody was ever arrested in connection with her disappearance or presumed death.

At the time of her 1990 disappearance, Abrams had a pending federal civil rights lawsuit that accused several people at the Will County Sheriff's Office of sexual harassment and for bringing phony criminal charges against her as a way to humiliate her and get her fired.

Her lawsuit named then-Will County Sheriff John Johnsen as a co-defendant. Other deputies named in the lawsuit included Tony Marquez, Robert Brown, Charles Misicka, Thomas Carey, Lawrence Lauffer, Raymond van Dyke and Anthony Luccenti.

The victim's relatives believe Abrams was killed and that her death was orchestrated by Marquez, who was her former boyfriend and a Will County Sheriff's Office Auxiliary Deputy at the time, along with help from his relative John Romo.

Earlier this year, Marquez died at age 78.

"It's either total corruption and a cover-up or total incompetence. You choose. There's no other explanation. I hate conspiracies," one of the Generation Why Podcast co-hosts opined. "Even in this case, I don't want to believe it, but, if I believe this isn't a conspiracy or a cover-up, then I have to accept the fact that this is the worst investigation I've ever seen in my life."

In 2020, another true-crime podcast, The Unfound Podcast Channel, aired a 92-minute segment called The Disappearance of Robin Abrams: Victim of Corruption.
