“Large amount of case development”: Bakersfield Police Department discusses taking the lead on the California City missing boys case

“I believe there’s a large amount of case development in this investigation,” said Sgt. Robert Pair, with Bakersfield Police Department. “But unfortunately due to the nature of this type of work, we just cant put that information out there.”

Those mysterious developments led Bakersfield Police Department to take the lead on the investigation. BPD has been on the case alongside the FBI since the beginning, supporting the California City Police Department’s 13 officers.

“They’ve got quite a few more resources, even though we do have dedicated resources for this,” said Jon Walker, Chief of Police in Californian City. “And we will continue to dedicate those resources, that will be our primary function.”

BPD says there are several reasons for this change.

“A large part of the interviews and follow-up needs to be conducted in Bakersfield,” Pair said.

There are also many parts of this story that lead back to this city.

“Bakersfield is a historical nexus for the boys,” Pair said. “The adoptive family, the biological family, and the boys grew up predominantly in Bakersfield.”

Sgt. Pair wouldn’t say whether he believes the boys are still alive or where they could be.

“I’m not going to speculate on where the boys are, and I don’t have more information indicating they’re in Bakersfield versus some place else,” Pair said.

As the lead agency on this case, BPD has some new responsibilities. The department is now in charge of compiling information, conducting the majority of interviews, and processing evidence.

“We’re not going to end this case until we know the facts, so it will be brought to light based on continued investigation and where the details lead us,” Pair said.

‘2 Kids Don’t Just Come Up Missing’: Relative Of Missing Kern County Toddlers Speaks Out

A relative of two missing toddlers from Kern County spoke out this week about the ongoing search for 4-year-old Orrin and 3-year-old Orson West.

Rosanna Willis, a biological relative of one of the boys, spoke to the Kern County Black Chamber of Commerce about the search. She said her gut feeling was that foul play is involved in the boys’ disappearance.

“Two kids don’t just come up missing, especially in Cal City,” Willis said. “if you go out there and you look at the area, the neighbors, they see everything. Some of the neighbors there said they ain’t never seen kids.”

There was a lot of alleged breaking news last night on Youtube. More BS that ended up false, exaggerated and honestly I believe in some cases, certain ones create the very rumors. It is always the same ones that run wild with such things and the responsible ones wait. There seems to have been no truth to any of it to speak of (no surprise) but there may have been a search warrant executed. Far more than that was being claimed though. I will leave it at that if anyone wants to go look themselves, because I don't want to drag the amount of unreliable info out there into here.

Officers search for missing Cal City boys near Cottonwood and East Pacheco

Over 50 FBI agents and Bakersfield Police officers searched the field for around 2 hours Saturday morning. The field is just over 2 miles from the apartment Trazell and Jacqueline lived with Orrin, Orson and their four other children, before they moved to California City in September 2020.

"The search has been completed. As far as if any items of evidence of any value were located, I can't get into specifics," Sgt. Robert Pair, Public Information Officer, for the Bakersfield Police Department, said. "I can definitely say that the boys were not located, I think our reaction would have been a lot different if that occurred."

Sgt. Robert Pair with the Bakersfield Police Department would not go into specifics for why law enforcement was searching the field on Saturday, but said it's for one of several reasons.

"It's either going to be through a tip or the investigative process, whether that is evidence that has been located previously or an interview," Sgt. Pair, said.

I’m going to guess cell phone triangulation.

This just raises so many more questions for me something just doesn't sit right about this whole case, someone is not telling the whole story in my opinion.

Yeah, this is the only part of the "interview" where this reporter claimed the Chief of Police said the other children said the last day they saw the boys was on the 19th that was NOT on the reporter's interview video with the Chief. Everything else this reporter claimed (in another segment) the Chief said was on video to back up anything reported, but not that part... The video clip of the Chief saying what the reporter claims has never been provided so I am doubtful of that claim and I seriously doubt there is one. It has never been verified nor confirmed out of the Chief's mouth that I have ever seen of any fact that this is the day the other children "said" they saw the boys. I seriously doubt anyone in LE would share such with the public about remarks from minor children.

I agree there is something "off" about this case and those involved and I don't just mean bio or adoptive parents or families... There seem to be agendas by others or something bigger... Reporters that can't verify what they said, Youtubers who claim arrests and all sorts of things that did not happen, and more... PIs that two stories are told about... Many false leads and sightings and many seem to be manufactured by as far as I can tell certain sources to gain $$ and attention. Hard to know what to believe... At first I put it down to people trying to make a name for themselves (Youtubers)... But then there was this clip you just shared where this reporter said this... Yet again had an entire interview with the Chief, backed everything up by video the Chief said except this later add on and remark... Again of what minor children taken away supposedly said...

This one frustrates me.

I don't buy into the trafficking thing but I do think someone or something bigger is trying to lead things in another direction away from the truth....

You can say that again!

Absolutely ridiculous.

Rumors around Orrin and Orson West case lead to fighting among community members, one arrest

It’s been two and a half months since 3-year-old Orson and 4-year-old Orrin West were reported missing.

“The facts of the case are still going forward,” said Sgt. Robert Pair with Bakersfield Police Department. “The boys have not been located, and there has been no arrests made.”

“On a daily basis there’s case movement, there’s interviews that occur,” Pair said. “There’s items of evidence that are searched.”

This leaves time for the public to speculate. That speculation results in online arguments and finger-pointing.

“I get it these guys believe their trying to make a difference and trying to help us out, but it appears to me that they’re just fighting with each other,” said Jon Walker, Chief of Police in California City.

One YouTuber, Doug Hutton, accused the neighbor of the adoptive parents in California City of being connected to the boys’ disappearance. That neighbor then put pictures of Hutton all over the adoptive parents’ house along with a banner asking “Doug Hutton, Where are the boys?” On Friday, Hutton saw the postings and took them down

“Then he went to the neighbor’s house, was walking around the house,” Walker said. “One of the people who lives in that house showed up, they had a confrontation in the street. We responded and had to deal with the confrontation. He ended up going to jail because he had some outstanding misdemeanor warrants.”

Police say Hutton was then cited and released.

“Now I have to use my resources to respond to these incidents and deal with these incidents,” Walker said. “That is taking focus away from the actual investigation.”

I heard about this but did not post it as I was waiting to see confirmation. The same night talk started about this, some Youtubers were saying the adoptive grandmother was arrested (allegedly) which was FALSE. As mentioned and hinted at above, there are a LOT of irresponsible Youtubers on this case who either run with false info and some who even seem to create it but claim it came from elsewhere. I don't do FB but assume the same thing is going on there and elsewhere since many are on all platforms.

When the dust settled and it was becoming clear there was no such arrest of the grandmother, the only thing that remained that seemed to have some truth was about the arrest of this Hutton guy.

And yes, because of some creators, some members of the public are accusing the neighbor and other individuals as well, because the creators are doing so or suggesting such things. Many feel the grandparents are involved and I myself have seen no real reason to think that. I honestly cannot believe more have not been arrested as they have really pushed boundaries in this case at the various homes of the families, etc.

I can't decide if the drama is people online trying to make a name for themselves and make $$$, etc. or an intent to affect the investigation and confuse and point in another direction from where the real facts would lead...

All I know is it is sickening when those doing such claim to "care" about these boys and/or justice.

When social media hits neighborhood street....

Ridiculous!

Police search East Bakersfield home in connection to missing California City boys

According to a neighbor, the Bakersfield Police Department conducted a search in connection to the disappearance of two California City kids.

The search took place at around 1 p.m. Friday afternoon in the 1100 block of E. Potomac Avenue at the home of the adoptive grandparents of Orrin and Orson West. Investigators were seen leaving with "brown bags" according to neighbor Vina Jefferson.

"Police cars that were out there. Out here two houses down and then they went all the way to the end of the block. They were in the yard, and then they stayed around for a while. Then four of them left. There were two still left, and they stay, maybe no longer than 30 minutes if that long, and then they left. But that truck that's in the yard wasn't there," said Jefferson.

23ABC has not been able to get a hold of police to ask what exactly was removed from the home.

In this one they say Bakersfield PD say they can't answer any questions until Monday. I hope that means something promising. It was a search based on a warrant I guess. Youtubers have been yelling for this home and yard to be searched for months now though so it is hard to say what this search is due to, a tip, procedure, etc.

Apparently all Bakersfield PD said today was to confirm the warrant for the most part. I don't know why that had to wait for Monday since one news report said it already the other day and apparently it was no big secret then.

Spokesperson, or someone required to authorize public statements doesn’t work weekends?
