‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

So they have 120 days to get 120,000 signatures for the sheriff's recall to succeed. So that is going to be at least mid June before anything could happen to remove the sheriff. Unless they can get thousands of signatures daily. We shall have to wait and see.

Have the people asking for the ransoms been traced?

So it is only an hour and a half drive from the Catalina foothills to the Mexico border. That is what makes sense to me the most. Sadly, I believe she is deceased. I think she woke up during a burglary and died during a following altercation. They removed her body via the front porch leaving blood stains behind.

Difficult to know who to believe.

"During an interview on NewsNation, Nanos strongly denied reports he was blocking the FBI from accessing evidence, calling such claims “completely false” and “furthest from the truth.”

“To suggest that this sheriff would tell the FBI ‘no’ on anything, that’s crazy,” he told NewsNation on Friday.

The sheriff explained his department sent some evidence to a private lab in Florida that has won competitive bids to work with the department for years, while sending cameras, phones and computers to the FBI because “the FBI has the best resources for those items to be analyzed.”

“We called them that morning, at 8 o’clock. They immediately said, ‘Sheriff, whatever you need,’” Nanos said, referring to the morning after Nancy Guthrie was reported missing.

When asked about a glove found about two miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home, Nanos said investigators wanted to keep all evidence in one place at the same lab.

“I have a lab that has all of our evidence. They have our markers for the family and people we want. Maybe it’s the landscaper, the pool guy, all of those there,” he said. “Why would I send them? And then we had another crime scene. At a scene, we did a search on one. All of that stuff went to our labs.” "

FBI releases description of masked suspect at Nancy Guthrie home

The revelation comes 12 days into the search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, who was last seen Jan. 31. The disclosure of tensions between local and federal authorities raises questions about coordination in the high-profile investigation.

Local investigators have expressed concerns for days about how the sheriff has handled the case. Investigators working the case still don’t know who is in charge — whether it’s the sheriff or the FBI.

NewsNation learned that as recently as Wednesday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office was not sharing critical information with the FBI."

You do know that people lie, right?

Have the people asking for the ransoms been traced?

Not yet. They have to access the account first, and it hasn't been touched since it was put up.

You do know that people lie, right?
Do they really? You don't say. I never knew that. Well he has 120 days to lie his way out of it and find Nancy or he's toast. Unless he has a ton of supporters. I really don't care about him. The FBI hasn't found her either. You do know that too right?

Why do you think the FBI hasn't found her yet?

I already posted what I think in 1782. Five posts up. Maybe you missed it?

No, I think you missed the articles @Guess Who posted, as well as all the others that have been posted. Choose to believe whatever you want, but when you are presented with facts that don't support your belief system, don't ignore them and get mad at those who present documented facts.

Who says I am getting mad? I can also believe what i like and have my own opinion thank you. Including opinion on any articles anyone posts. That's the whole point. It's called discussion.

This is some info I found on the blood splatter. Its dated 20th March.

Nancy Guthrie Was ‘Bleeding Pretty Badly’ Forensic Expert Tells Megyn Kelly

Martin HolmesMarch 20, 2026, 10:35 am

Forensic expert Amy Santoro stated that blood spatter evidence indicates Nancy Guthrie was “bleeding pretty badly” when she was abducted. The 84-year-old mom of ‘Today’s Savannah Guthrie has been missing since January 31.Experts agree the source of the bleeding could be from various injuries, but the exact nature of Nancy’s injuries remain undetermined.

A forensic scientist believes that evidence shows Nancy Guthrie was “bleeding pretty badly” when she was presumably abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home in the early hours of February 1.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Show earlier this week, forensic expert Amy Santoro told the former Fox News host that the blood spatter found at the front of Nancy’s property suggested she was losing blood at a rapid pace.

“What I can tell is that the blood is falling from a height, probably more than two feet,” Santoro said, per the Daily Express U.S. “Whether that’s from her hand, her arm, her face, I don’t think we can tell. But I think it’s an indication that she is bleeding very quickly.”

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since January 31, when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Since then, investigators have released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect and shared a description of the potential abductor. Crime scene photos also show blood on Nancy’s front porch and driveway.

“There’s so much blood out there that I don’t think you would see that distribution of blood with a slower bleed,” Santoro added. “I think it shows that she really [was] bleeding pretty badly.”

As for whether the blood indicates what kind of wound Nancy might have had, Santoro said, “I don’t think we can say. I don’t want to speculate on the severity of injury, other than to say, it’s fair to assume that there’s some sort of quickly bleeding source.”

She said that could have been “a tear on her arm,” noting Nancy’s “thin skin,” which is typical in older people. “If she receives some sort of blunt force trauma to the face, she gets hit in the face, that could cause it,” she continued. “We often see blood dripping like this from a bleeding nose. But it really could be anything.”

Earlier this month, retired FBI special agent Maureen O’Connell told Brian Entin Investigates that the pattern of the blood suggested that Nancy was carried out of her home.

“There don’t appear to be any voids [in the blood spatter],” O’Connell said, noting that, in her mind, “[Nancy’s] wrapped up in something and they’re carrying her out. The shape of the blood droplets… they’re all round and the sphere is intact. That means it went straight down. It wasn’t moving at speed.”

Fellow retired FBI agent Jim Clemente wasn’t so sure, adding that, if Nancy was wrapped up, “She wasn’t wrapped up well.”

A key piece of evidence could provide investigators with additional context surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance from her Tucson, Arizona, home as the search for the missing 84-year-old stretches into its second week.

Photos taken by Fox News Digital show blood droplets on the ground in front of Nancy Guthrie’s front door and in her driveway, painting an eerie picture of what could have led to her disappearance.

"Nancy Guthrie is bleeding from some area, either the hands or the face," forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden told Fox News Digital. "The nature of the blood spots with little pale centers or donut shapes are typical for drops that come from the nose or mouth, because they're mixed with air."

"That means she's coughing up blood or dripping from the nose. Otherwise, there would be a dripping from a cut from above, possibly from the hands or face."

Law enforcement previously confirmed DNA analysis of the droplets confirmed the blood belonged to Nancy Guthrie.

Baden added the blood droplets signify Nancy Guthrie was either unable or did not attempt to stop the bleeding as she moved from the front of her house to the driveway.

"This blood dropped onto the porch area during an abduction," Baden said. "They indicate that it did not occur by innocent means."

"They happened not in a normal, innocent way where it could be covered up or have iodine and bandages put on it."

Baden pointed to the nature of the blood droplets and the location in which they were found suggest she was bleeding as she was being abducted.

"These are not innocent droplets. From the shape, number of droplets and the place of the droplets outside the house on the porch, they are entirely consistent and indicative of occurring during an abduction."

Guthrie vanished from her Tucson, Arizona, home in the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 1. She was reported missing later the same day after she did not attend a weekly livestream of her church with friends.

In a statement, the FBI said it continues to seek the public’s help.

"We appreciate the assistance and support we have received from the Tucson community. The FBI continues to offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie. You can help by submitting tips to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI," the agency said.

I wonder if there is an assumption made that she walked out of her house? If she was carried, it seems to me that blood could have came from several places.

They can tell by blood droplets, whether someone was moving when they were dropped or not. It sounds like they've never looked at that.

My belief is her body was carried out in a tarp and the blood trickled down the inside of the tarp leaving the droplets to come out.
