‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

A lot of the time robots are on the board. @Kimster or @SheWhoMustNotBeNamed

Can explain it to us.

:bots::bots::bots::bots::bots::bots::bots::bots::bots::bots::bots::bots:
Oh I know but just pointing out a well followed case as we all know anyhow, and for the time of day I just happened to notice, I don't always look at the numbers, pretty rare that I do.

I forget too though they can be just guests. I only in a blue moon have followed without logging in, generally if it's out of town or only have my phone or something, I don't prefer it as I don't like ads and one can't post. But have done it. I just tend to forget sometimes legit people will do that too long before joining any site.

To those viewing and not joining in ever, 98 percent here don't bite. Any who do well, very in the minority, miniscule, and I for one welcome conversation if sole purpose isn't to cause trouble. Jmo. A couple don't, but very much not the majority.

Just my two cents worth. It's ad free if a member. Not paying either. I appreciate that about it a lot.

On the other hand some Could be well MSM trying to glean "facts" and tidbits and links for their reports as most of them don't do the real work any longer. Some SM sites/channels do not either.

I'm watching Netflix but when on commercial I tab around. Wasn't coming back but happened to tab on it.

Yeah, I haven't read your thing but CBS and CNN are the ones I've found most doubtful or pulling from thing air.

Maybe it was, but who is to say he was the main person...

OR who knows. All jump to conclusions this was just prior to entry. And that he was inside for 41 minutes.

Assumptions with facts are one thing but we don't have much for facts here.

I see Banfield ran behind Entin with the video without him having a back pack is from a different night. Nope I didn't watch her. I just saw her head line that shows and first sentence. No way am I watching her. Interesting though, they are both NewsNation...

Personally, just my own speculation, they have to work together since both NN but think maybe they are competitive or more so that Banfield is jealous of Entin... Banfield never travels to the scene, is not up and coming and he keeps getting more and more and his sources SEEM to pan out, hers don't...

I don't always like his ways and didn't like him in a few prior cases with some things but he reads the room so to speak... And seems to learn...

Her? LOL. Not so much.

yes the flowers "seem" silly by some talking heads... But what else was...? He isn't caught yet and people are rethinking things, well some are, some are just sold on what they want to believe... And have a need to make anything fit that doesn't... I don't mean anyone here but out there with some of the news and their commenters, more MSM actually...

So all was done maybe and he had Nancy immobile or tied or something already in a car and he came back to the front door to see what to take care of quickly. Noted the thing that he thought might be an electronic and went to grab something, nothing available and grabbed some flowers... Then maybe did one last look around the outside of the property... CAme back, disconnected that camera, to be extra safe, or was checking on things in the car first, who knows... Or more than one perp...

We haven't been given timestamps or much at all really. I beleive in turning things around and thinking on things in other ways where our initial thoughts took us, or for what hasn't been said. Not in the stupid wild conspiracies out there but with what we do know or feel we can trust as facts.

Some will say it doesn't mean he's smart, it took 7 weeks for Kohgber, yes, but it only took two for Tepe...

This guy/s aren't dumb despite the flowers... Kohberger too the assailant to this day seemed not to be a known person to them, or know by them very well if at all. Tepe was connected but married to her many years back with no apparent recent worries, other than a thing or two now being mentioned as to Monique leaving the game... And he went to a lot of trouble, changing plates, apparently planning, etc. but caught, in not that long...

The ones that think it's her BIL thanks to loser Banfield, well, if close to her, they sure despite having fairly quick ability and total cooperation to search anything and everything, it has resulted in nothing has it?

the only dumb thing here people and "experts" some, seem to hang on are the flowers. One might call the backpack dumb but who knows.... Maybe not if he picked it up or bought it at a Goodwill or some such. That would take ages, if ever, to track down...

The flowers DO NOT fit. They don't. WIth all else. IMVHO.

Did we get a date and timestamp for these videos? I am wondering if they actually broke in when she was at home? Or whether she was dropped off and they were already in the house? How do they know it was her who took off her watch and put it by her bed for example. I am going to question everything until we know all the details.

I am saying this because we know that she was dropped off and watched by her son-in-law going in the house via the garage. But after that, who knows what happened?

I remember looking at the videos in the beginning and the thought of it being two different incidences crossing my mind, but then I just let it go.

This case is causing me to go back and look at my cameras more often, I’ll tell you that much.

What gets me is the reaction to the camera on the last time if the first time was to canvas the scene.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that this morning. I have to wonder if he’s on some type of substance. Instead of being a “brilliant” kidnapper, he might just be dang lucky.

I am hearing that Savannah has offered a $1 million dollar reward. Will find a good link.

ETA I see @Kimster has already posted the link but here is some of the narrative.

TODAY" co-anchor Savannah Guthrie on Tuesday announced her family is offering a reward of up to $1 million for the recovery of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared more than three weeks ago.

"Someone knows how to find our mom and bring her home," Savannah Guthrie wrote in a caption accompanying a video published on Instagram just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.

In the video, a visibly emotional Savannah Guthrie urged the public to keep her mother in their thoughts.

"Please keep praying without ceasing," she said. "We still believe. We still believe in a miracle. We still believe that she can come home, hope against hope, as my sister says. We are blowing on the embers of hope."

"We also know that she may be lost," she added. "She may already be gone."

The Guthrie family plans to donate $500,000 to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. "We know there are millions of families that have suffered with this kind of uncertainty," Savannah Guthrie said.

Michelle DeLaune, the chief executive of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, confirmed the Guthrie family's donation in a blog post.

"Their donation is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: when a family is in crisis, they deserve someone to stand with them," DeLaune said.

The Guthrie family was prepared to offer a cash reward from the beginning of the investigation, but they were advised that doing so might overwhelm the infrastructure set up to field leads, according to a source close to the family.

The family decided to offer the reward after careful consultation and coordination with law enforcement, the source said.

The reward does not hinge on an arrest or prosecution, only Guthrie’s recovery, the source said, and the $1 million can be split if there is more than one valid claim.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office said early on that investigators believe Guthrie was “taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night and that includes possible kidnapping or abduction.”

Authorities have not identified a suspect in the case, though the FBI released doorbell camera images and videos of an armed and masked man outside Guthrie's house on the morning she disappeared. (Two law enforcement sources said Monday that one of the images was captured earlier.)

All members of the Guthrie family have been cleared as possible suspects, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously said, adding that to "suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel."

"The Guthrie family are victims, plain and simple," Nanos added.

Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have posted a series of Instagram videos since their mother went missing. In some of the videos, Savannah Guthrie made direct appeals to her mother’s possible captor.

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for any information that leads to Guthrie or to an arrest, and an additional $102,500 reward is being offered through Tucson Crime Stoppers, known locally as 88-CRIME.

Supporters of the Guthrie family have left flowers and handmade posters outside her home. In one sign seen by NBC News early Tuesday, an unidentified person directly addressed Guthrie's possible kidnapper.

"Unintentional things happen, and we get that," one part of the sign said. "Life is made up of choices. Please make the right one now."

No time stamps, part of the problem for us. Also no confirmation of how entry was made or if forced. Nor have they confirmed that 41 time frame EVERYONE is buying into (inside the home). I'm not.

Yeah, I too have considered it every which way and sideways. Was he already there. Was he outside for a bit after the video at the front? And entered elsewhere? And considered many more things.

Now supposedly a solid "source" said to Entin the nonbackpack pic was a day that was some time prevoius to the one with the backpack at the front door.... That could simply mean b4 midnight that very time and the other is after midnight or it could be days or weeks before, they didn't share how long prior...

This is exactly what I said so many places needed to be done. At least a million without so many conditions they generally put on rewards. That enough for even a mother or a gf of the perp to flip imo. Love isn't always that deep, especially if they know they are trouble and likely to be caught anyhow. Or need a way and $$ to get away and support themselves.

Let's hope. I rarely see rewards work or get paid but IF they make them substantial enough and are seen paying them out and iti s heard, they MIGHT see more people turn people in.

Hopefully though it doesn't result in a bunch of TMZ b.s.

Heck will they pay it to the perp? If so, maybe he'd decide a million would go a long way to a good lawyer, pay for his safety in prison and a lot of commissary...

Half kidding. Lol. I pray it works. If it doesn't, then that says something right there...

A bit more info re the DNA. Some is related to persons who work at the house and have been cleared.

Info about the $1 million reward too.

Comments are interesting. Click the "watch on youtube" to be able to read the comments.

I'm sure most already know all this but first 750 fresh tips came in I guess after the million dollar reward video. I sure hope one or two are from someone who is close to the suspect/knows. Seen much being made of the video in the past few days. As in "snatched from her bed" does make it sound as if they know that and changes some possibilities. If so, she never answered the door for one. She indicates the reward is from "the family". Sure we all noticed her sister's remark she included and some details that make it clear at least she was not killed at their home. I could never believe people even thought that with the blood in front of the home just for one. Talking head/experts (many) said things like that even. So they'd have to get Nancy's blood while alive and then drip it in front of the home? To me that is ridiculous. Now being said also there is a trail of the same blood inside the home. Well that makes sense too.

People still hanging onto I see that it is the SIL and/or sister. I don't think it is, but who knows, but I'm tired of it. They try to make all new info fit into their theory and that's not the way you do it. Or the dismiss it if it really doesn't work or then it's a partner in with them or something. I don't discount the possibility but I really don't see it and Savanna needs her family. And sure doesn't seem to feel that way as far as one can tell.

Of course all have heard the DNA in the home mostly all matched persons with reason to be in the home. One partial was not good enough for CODIS.

No trespassing signs went up at Nancy's.

I saw a tidbit on another video that Savanna's husband stopped at the Today show to thank them all for their support. He flies back and forth I guess from AZ to NY a lot. It said with kids in school, he has to hold up that end too. They must have someone they trust that can stay with the kids when he was away.

That got me thinking I wonder why at this point she stays out there. The kids miss her I'm sure. I don't think being out there really adds anything, I guess if she was found and was alive, she'd of course want to be there at that moment to be near her and see her, the most likely reason I'd think. For anything else, it could all be handled from her home really. If she needed a video done, I'm suer the Today show could provide a crew and/or they could just do one on her own phone or they could send agents to her to help from the NYC field office. LE isn't going to share all with the family anyhow and what they do share, could be done by phone or again have agents from there go talk to her. I suppose it's also to be with family so they all can support each other in this. At what point though will she go home to her own family? I don't even mean to work, I can't see her talking about other news and being smiley on set with guests and news. How could anyone? I couldn't I know.

Haven't been on here much so just a bit of an overall mention of things new (not much) and recap of thoughts and info.

Anyhow, this is short but covers all above except the husband visiting Today was just something else I saw.

She may feel like if she goes back to NYC she is giving up on her mom, or abandoning her.

Yeah, I don't question it really, but just wonder at what point you make that decision, I mean her own family is back there and kids only are kids once. It has to be awfully tough. Maybe they come down with dad sometimes who knows, but doubtful I think with reporters and all. And for safety reasons. Or maybe she gets a flight in home but doubtful too I think. It's early days yet but get over a month or more and that's a long time to be away from your kids. At least Facetime or whatever the popular one is now is called, helps keep an in touch thing when away a lot more present and personal.

A year in if that would happen, of course I think you'd go home. Or back and forth anyhow. She could quit and they could move there but their kids' lives are in NY so that's doubtful. I'm really not wondering, I just wonder how and when you make that decision. You'd have to be torn both ways I'm sure. They can't really do much day after day after day. If they go out and about, it would be found out and reported on so I'm sure they don't.

Yeah, I don't know. At some point though, I imagine she's going to have to make that choice. IF mom is not found soon.
