‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

Yeah, I thought about that afterwards.

I was also wondering if that was the reason why there was action on it
Apparently a small amount of money was placed in the account, between $300-600.

Also Annie's neighborhood in the last 30 minutes or so has become a hotbed of LE activity.

TMZ supposedly received the ransom email with the bitcoin account listed. Ever since, they have been monitoring that account from what I understand.

I wonder if the FBI placed money in the account in an attempt to further trace the source. I know next to nothing about bitcoin and if that would even be a possibility.
Wonder if they're trying to give the perp some running scared money. Hopefully, track it?

That was the only conclusion I could come up with. I wish they would have tried that like last week!

Mr. Sunburst is listening to Fox. They are interviewing a former homicide detective. Detective is saying because of the SWAT trucks, there will be an arrest very soon, in the next 24 hours. He believes they have a name of at least one person, maybe more, that SWAT is going after. SWAT is apparently headed to the neighborhood where Annie's house is.
Seems they were correct! They've already detained somebody!

I have seen a new view of the gloved hand and the palm area looks like a nitrile glove is possible, but I've never seen one puffy on the back of a bent hand like that is. The "clingy-ness" of nitrile gloves is what I hate the most about having to wear them, even wearing xl ones. If they are, I sure would like to find out the brand or that person has very small hands.

RIO RICO, Arizona — A person of interest has been detained for questioning in connection with the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, according to sources and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was reportedly headed toward the US-Mexico border when he was pulled over in Rio Rico by Pima County sheriff’s deputies who had been trailing him, law enforcement sources told The Post.

The sheriff’s office said the individual is being questioned about Nancy’s disappearance following the traffic stop in Rio Rico, a tiny border community just 16 miles from Mexico. Sources did not know if he was trying to flee across the border.

He doesn’t appear to be a member of the Guthrie family, according to TMZ, and hasn’t been called a suspect.

A woman in Rio Rico, Arizona told CNN authorities are searching her home after they received a tip related to the investigation of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

“They had somebody give a tip that the lady was in my house,” the woman, who identified herself as Josefina, told CNN. “I told them you can go in and search my house, there is nobody there. I have nothing to hide.”

The woman said authorities are investigating her son-in-law, who she said was detained, but “he had nothing to do with that (the case).”
