‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

How do you think he got there? Surely he wouldn't have driven wearing all that gear. I was thinking about a motor bike.
That at least fits. On a cool desert night, riding a cycle would be even cooler...

Still think he was disguised though just for the crime. Not sure if he traveled in the garb or not.

No one imo can be sure of anything in this case thus far.

It's obvious some don't by their comments about there not being any difference. Specifically stating that there is no difference between USD and Canadian dollars tells me that all by itself.
Do you know how to stop? I've even said please. Try some manners and ditch the insults. towards now several members here today. And other days.

Ya'll (yes, all) need to knock it off.
Stop trying to police what people are allowed to talk about.
If you don't agree, or don't think something is relevant, or just plain ol' don't want to engage with that person, that information, or that source...ignore them!
And also remember that just because someone disagrees with you does not mean they are trying to argue. It's okay to have different perspectives and point out your viewpoint or information, and at the same time, not be arguing or criticizing.

Everyone just needs to take a big breath. If people are getting under your skin, maybe go touch some grass and come back in a bit. The arguing is getting childish and hard to read through.

Do you mean me?

@SheWhoMustNotBeNamed has some good advice.

I have to say that you started it with your comment in post 761 to me. And I dont appreciate being spoken to like a child.

Officials see uptick in calls after release of images showing person at Nancy Guthrie’s door

From CNN's Cindy Von Quednow
Officials are seeing an increase in calls after the FBI released images of a person at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the night she disappeared, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Investigators are combing through leads as they continue to search for Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother.

Here is my second, less plausible theory.
Nancy had been a widow for decades. Her husband died when Savannah was a young teen.

Some guy with money troubles is online, looking for wealthy elderly women on dating sites so he can start a relationship with them to get money. Nancy isn't on the sites, but he hears about her from a friend of a friend type scenario- maybe someone who works/worked in the neighborhood. He somehow makes contact with Nancy- maybe through charity or volunteer work she did. She isn't interested and tells him to take a hike. Enraged, he decides to get revenge.
Boy, that's actually not a bad theory! When we heard recently she was supposedly attending church online too, that crossed my mind as she is alone and would understand a computer, etc. if she watched online. Now it's been said she went to a friend's where they all watched online which seems a bit unusual to me but maybe for fellowship too. I did hear she was involved in her neighborhood board or group or some such, so not sure if she volunteered but would not doub it.

Interesting theory. Both of the ones you shared are I think quite possible. I can think of my mom a lot with this case, and my dad is gone, just as Nancy had no spouse although she lost hers a long time ago... My mom is not uhm destitute. I would not call her rich in the sense of wealthy but everything is paid for, nice home, savings, etc. She was with my dad her entire adult life... I'll leave that there but yes, I think with Nancy it could be a possibility OR someone saw her as a mark... Nice neighborhood, on the area board for the neighborhood or whatever it is called, heard that from a neighbor is where I got that, goes to church, has friends, a famous daughter, yeah... I could see it. The take a hike part too.

My mom tried one relationship but it was very, very innocent and it just sent her into I'd say almost a panic and she had no experience in how to get out of it without offending the guy. She tried ignoring his calls, etc. I'm not going to share a lot more on that except to say I had been through trying to end even a few dates (when seeing the person is not for you) and had been through it, she never had. I told her it is best to answer and tell him and just... And so on. I was there when she was ignoring the calls. To complicate things he was a mutual friend of someone she was close to, etc.

ENOUGH from me on that but my point is I think that's a fair possibility. In my mom's case he was no psycho, he was a widower himself, she just did not know how to let him down or stay friends, etc. Imo.

He was fine with it but it would have likely been better had she just talked to him. Instread she fretted all of the time about not knowing what to do.

Sorry.

Yeah, some don't take rejection very well. I also think your theory could have a few other possibilities to it.

Absence of gear in photo could have a couple explanations, former FBI agent says

The FBI shared several videos and photos of a person who approached Nancy Guthrie’s home and appeared to tamper with a doorbell camera. But one photo shared by FBI Director Kash Patel appears to show the masked individual not wearing a backpack or holster, contrasting other images that do show the gear.

There could be a couple of possibilities for why this photo appears to be different, and we don’t have timestamps to figure out the timeline of when these photos were taken, correspondent and former FBI agent Josh Campbell said.

“It’s possible that if this individual was around that home for quite some time and wanted to do some kind of form of reconnaissance up to the doorway itself,” Campbell said. “Obviously walking up there without a brandished firearm that you could see would certainly be less threatening.”

The video is helpful in the investigative process, he added, highlighting techniques like pulling up foliage from the yard to cover the camera as an interesting tactic used alongside the full body clothing and mask.

Interesting theories.

TUCSON, Ariz. — A former FBI agent and a medical doctor explored with Fox News Digital alternative theories other than kidnapping for ransom in the Nancy Guthrie case after former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino joined Sean Hannity on Fox News' "Hannity" Monday to discuss Guthrie's disappearance.

I saw Dan on Fox this morning and it was a show with very good discussion imo.

I don't watch MSM even Fox contrary to what a few might think but they've been pretty good on this case the last few days and with discussion. They come up for me due to the case, as do some more fly by night types like JLR on the scene.

Emu posts a lot of CNN and they are covering it, I just haven't found them first with much and I get a lot of breaking news from others who are on the ground, although some of them can jump to conclusions.

I'm not sure I linked it but that was a decent show earlier. What I saw was before this all broke with the pics and videos. No time to look at all links here, just catching up with posts.

What do you mean set me off? I am just commenting on a crime forum but do not appreciate rude or sarky comments. There's no need for them. We are commenting in good faith here but some comments verge on trolling.

I didn't see that as snarky, that's just me.
