‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

Hired help being swabbed for DNA in Nancy Guthrie disappearance: source

Nancy Guthrie's landscaper, pool cleaner and other hired help are submitting buccal swabs more than a week after her suspected abduction from a home in Tucson, Arizona, according to a law enforcement source.

The move likely means DNA results have finally come back from inside her house, experts say.

Well we are definitely past the window given for getting her back to them...

One thing I have doubted is that they will drop her off at home or family's, etc. Too risky.

I could see them putting her into an Uber or on a bus or something. Of course they aren't going to risk identification though.

However, for what it was made to seem like, the family did not pay the kidnappers...

I need to unsubscribe from Banfield. So far I haven't, just seeing what headlines she is coming up with these days lol, with her not receiving the same info any longer, or so it appears. LOL. She's so disgusting. Not clicking in though.

Well, a quick refresh or two and don't see much new other than usual things. A couple of the usuals there live and discussions per the norm on some stations, etc.

I went back to sleep so just back up.

I don't know about anyone else but I was still holding out some slim hope that she would be returned... Seems it isn't going to be the case.

Yeah me too. So if she wasn't kidnapped where the heck is she?

I'm seeing something that says an elderly woman has been found in Pima county dead. I have a feeling it is bullsh*t so am NOT going to link it so they get views. And don't want to excite anyone as it did me at first. If anyone sees anything corroborating such, please let us know. There is a lot of b.s. out there, much like Reiner was in the beginning in these high profile cases.

Probably dead if she wasn't kidnapped. Or the kidnappers killed her, or she died without meds. Returning a kidnap victim too is risky itself. Still hard to say what the truth is here.

I still lean towards it is someone close.

Gigi. Short.

I agree with her remark that she wishes if the ransom note was a hoax that LE would say as much so reporters and all of us can quit speculating on it/reporting on it.

Ok, you knew this was going to happen. According to the dailymail, (I know, I know) there is currently an internal battle raging at NBC over whether to turn Guthrie's disappearance into a new Dateline episode. Those network executives opposed are saying it is too soon, and it is inappropriate because it hits too close to home since SG works for NBC. Those in favor are saying it would be the highest rated Dateline episode ever.

Of course that would happen. All about ratings right? I bet Savanna has both cursed and loved her connections at this time.

I've heard more than once now that local LE did not invite the FBI to take over and had a problem with it... Heard someone say that the only reason they can take over if not invited in this case is because of celebrity and sent to do that... Reading between the lines I take that to mean her status was used to get the FBI involved and we've heard Trump offer all resources they can provide. I'm not commenting on either side of politics other than to say this might be one example where those connections are beneficial but then there are times such is not the case. I bet she has also cursed the public attn, yet needed or wanted tips and info.

While many might wish their cases got this attn, there is also a downside.

I'd be surprised if something like NBC and Dateline did not win out here just for sheer greed and ratings.

I care about them finding this mom and grandma and elderly woman as much as anyone but one is starting to see the inner machinations and issues going on here. Imo.

I've seen the absolute salivating and grossness imo by Banfield, and trying to use that she's a "friend" and a known name.

By the way, does anyone know if it is true she got fired both from Court TV and MSNBC? I wouldn't doubt it.

They are expected to release it shortly. Supposedly Google, etc. companies have been helping to clear it, find whatever on the cams or something like that.

It's going to end up being ALL about the money.

So just putting this together. Savanna does a video and the first one where she doesn't talk to or appeal to either her mom or the kidnappers. TMZ reports most of the day yesterday that no money had went into the bitcoin account which many reporting can be seen, and remember, not all had the address but TMZ would have from the very first note. Deadlines are past now and so is return time and Nancy has not been brought back.

Now LE (probably feds) decide to release the video or pic as unclear as it is, to the public.

LE is calling the person in the video a "subject" not a "suspect." Video to be released any minute now.
