‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

I think answers will come, hopefully, in the next day or two.

I've had it with the b.s. there is out there myself.

I think it lies close to home. And no one is letting the job to be done very easily.

Let's say it is her son in law. How would he hide that he suddenly has millions of dollars?

Perhaps he's planning on leaving the country after the bitcoin exchange.

A lot of info in this article.

I wouldn't doubt it since it's usually the rich that pay them and they get all of the deductions LOL.

No, in all honesty, I don't think they are.

Well a lot of people think the wife is involved too and I myself am not sure she isn't. Beyond her, he probably hasn't thought about trying to hide the fact. It doesn't seem most criminals think of much after the fact or intend on getting caught either.

Right now he SHOULD be thinking of that though because if he feels they suspect him, if he all of a sudden has money, they are going to be looking into it if they haven't been able to arrest him prior.

As to leaving the country, would he really leave the wife and his kids behind? If she wasn't part of it I mean. I suppose maybe, many people do leave their spouse and kids... Well, maybe not many, but quite a few.

There are a lot of people out there who now think she was killed at their home. I don't see how that could work since she disconnected from her devices like her phone which LE found at her home. It would take some elaborate staging to make it seem that way including dripping her blood, etc. so I think it highly unlikely. You would not want LE finding blood imo. They're going by, of course, the flashes which seemed to be picture taking, going on at their home.

I admit the pictures being taken, if that's what was going on, do throw a bit of a curve ball in, if it was luminol. And it would certainly make it seem they definitely ARE looking at him/them... It's hard to make that work though, would they have brought her back home injured, only to take her again? Or maybe they took her from her home back to theirs? Until they could figure out what to do with her? In either scenario, there'd be a lot more blood dripped...

I'll give it a read but right off the bat they are missing the garage door opening in the timeline. They are also putting in the call from a church member which LE did not put in the timeline. And finally they say Annie was the last one to see her and the sheriff never said that at all, he refused to name which one saw her last. So it's not entirely accurate.

I never heard KOLD say this but in this one apparently KOLD has said there was no proof of life provided in the letter. Not sure what they are paying for then but maybe just because the threat is she dies otherwise... Or we don't know of all of the communications and what they say.

I don't know where Entin is this last day or two, or his crew at least, but I am not watching JLR live or that CNN affiliate live either. I've tried both and can't deal with either of them.

Gigi is up. She's not on the scene but she is not over the top jumping to conclusions. She is following all the Twitter feeds and lives, etc. and monitoring.

Banfield's latest try for an attn headline is cops search septic tank? and after dark searches in family house, etc. I have to laugh as she's pretty late with it. I'm guessing since she's not there, no one is going near her right now for the most part or sharing a thing with her privately. GOOD!! A bunch of idiots will watch her though.

I don't know where she is getting this.

Also, if it is true, the police really screwed up leaving it there and not watched.

I'm not sure I buy any of her tweets.

There is absolutely nothing new out there by anyone on the scene.

I did a Bing search, and nothing came up.
I know right? There's nothing about either thing. Am also watching several lives of people at the homes and NOTHING.

Anyone can say anything with no source. And another live is monitoring tweets and not there either.

I don't think the source is anyone used or trusted so far as I can tell.

Not sure how TMZ would know this!! Also, the person could have already moved the money no? Not sure how bitcoin works.

Although quite honestly, if they have no proof, not sure it's wise to pay it...

Could any of you read the replies? I don't have twitter so they didn't load for me.

This is all speculation IMO. Also saying the recipient cannot access it without an SSN - what if they aren't a US citizen? They wouldn't have a SSN. The funds could be going to an overseas account, for example.
