‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

Imo they were doing luminol in the garage at least at Annie's. It was my first thought and it remains that way imo.

That's on TV shows, though. Which kidnapping case with a ransom demand in the US do you recall?

Also, one that the family has no way to communicate with the kidnapper other than putting videos on IG?

Just saying, this is unprecedented in the US in our time, btw. I'm not sure we have any recent history to refer to.
The last kidnapping i recall was the girl who ended up joining the kidnappers. And they all became terrorists.

I'm still going to be posting updates.

The world has already convicted Annie and her husband. I'm just over here, clueless.
Well it would be a clever within family kidnapping and ransom wouldn't it? No risk to Nancy and the $6m goes from one sister to the other. Fait accompli.

Kind of where I'm leaning too. Husband may be the "mastermind" but thinking she's involved too.

I'm not for certain but it sure is looking that way...

The ransom notes and that it might be family are not necessarily exclusive from each other.

That's my main theory and thought. Agreeing.

I think this will all come to a head in the next day or two. Most likely.

If you click on it, it with two you.

How would that be proof of life? It could just mean the person that said it was there had been in there before.
Well how else would the kidnappers know that was in Annie's lounge unless Nancy told them, proving she is alive.

Yes, but the family doesn't have to take pics and verify it. They can say yes you are right, so you showed us proof. They don't need to provide proof to him, he has to to them.

Tell me what I am wearing right now and what color. I go oh my, you are right. I don't need to take pics to prove it to you. You just proved to me that you know.

If you see what I'm saying?

The family does not need to provide proof, kidnapper doesn't need it, kidnapper needs to provide proof.

Ok. I'll bite. How does that prove she's still alive? In your example, she could have told them a week ago

It also could mean that the person that said it is familiar with what is in her lounge.

Neither proves she's alive now.

As far as we know, every message has to be public as the first two family messages were going on about having no way to contact them so I'd assume there was no way for communication to talk of any of these things without it being public, from the family side anyhow.

It does take certain things to prove life right now at any time at this point and we rarely agree but I have to say an object in a house, etc. is not proof of life.

Something was said in the kidnapper's last response though that we don't know.

Not sure still this is any stranger kidnapper, or even legit.

Exactly. I say under some videos on YT even in comments, just another rehash, regurgitation of same old things, and people thank me and say they now don't have to waste their time. If someone is following things a bit closely, then it gets old where every video or piece of news coverage that has clickbait or not, is what they've always heard a thousand times elsewhere.

That's all I've found CNN's to be. And I DID look at the first few linked here. It was a waste of time.

CNN reports verified facts. That's why they are slow. No Banfield garbage.

Yeah, there needs to be a balance between the two ways. And some do that.

MSM is limited and can't report fast but it isn't only that, many of them don't pay any longer to have someone at the scene/for travel.

Some other ones, media like Law and Crime, News Nation, etc. might but they can go over the line but that's who we first hear things from.

Yes, Banfield we can agree on, I'm done with her. I don't care whether she was right or wrong, it has NOTHING to do with it, she was out of line. She's just an old has been.

Is it true she was fired from Court TV and NBC or MSNBC? I've seen comments saying that.
