‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

Well if she didn't then Ashleigh is full of sh*t claiming several were smashed, etc.

I think there were cameras, she just didn't pay for the subscription. I didn't either with mine but you still could look at the feed and as you said, download anything you wanted to save.
That's what I mean, though. She might have had cameras, but they need to be OPERATING. I know of others that have them but they aren't working.

So, if the non-prescription cameras were smashed, wouldn't that indicate that the abductor(s) didn't know her well enough to know her cameras weren't operating?

It did though send her a message or alert or something didn't it? A figure was seen or some such. So maybe they don't have the cameras but have the message she received? Still confused about the camera situation. It was not easy to hear all of that and I had both volume settings all the way up, but later I thought he said she had several cameras or did I hear that wrong? One doesn't need a subscription for them to operate. I didn't.

That’s what I got from it - no forced entry.
That's problematic. There are times when I go to leave my house and realize I accidentally left the door unlocked, but not that often. Maybe that's what happened? She was tired, went through the garage, and forgot to check the front door?

She also could have answered the door, especially if it was someone she knew. OR they had a key. OR they knew the garage code...

I need a subscription to play them back, but not to view them live. However, as I mentioned before, there are SO many different security cameras out there! Who knows what hers were capable of.

Arizona authorities refused to speak on reports about alleged forced entry into Nancy Guthrie's home.

They said they didn't know where the previous reporting about forced entry came from.

Cops not ruling out anyone Nancy Guthrie saw Saturday as suspects

Law enforcement is not ruling out any of the people Nancy Guthrie associated with Saturday night as suspects in her disappearance, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.

The individuals include at least Guthrie's daughter, Annie, her son-in-law and an Uber driver, according to previous reports.

A paid subscription? I can access mine as you said, well could, I no longer have that property for 7 or 10 days, I forget which, or maybe it was even 30. Mine were Wyze cameras and cost a mere $30 each. It was free. If I upgraded, it would enhance alerts and recognition and some other things, but I never needed the paid version.

When my ex came on the property, we kept that one and I called LE. Maybe I had to download them but don't think I had to immediately, just before it was no longer available. But then I had the video for good on my phone.

All of that was 100 percent free.

They were on this immediately. I think, I'd have to listen again, an image was seen and alerted or sent to her, at least, but then they turned the camera off so nothing further was seen. Or something like that.

It wasn't easy to hear all in that press conference. I may replay it but I'm sure most will come out from those there, if they don't mess up the info or miss something as news can often do.

Anyhow, I don't think the camera info is clear yet. He shared some but not all imo.

So there were no damaged cameras? They were just disabled?. Did they confirm the ring doorbell was removed?

I’m not tech savvy at all and still trying to understand the cameras. I understood same as you - she had cameras but not a subscription.

This is a dumb question but if the camera disconnects at 1:47 am how does software detect a person on camera at 2:12 am? Maybe it was another camera and not the doorbell camera?

1:47 am - Doorbell camera disconnects
2:12 am - Software detects person on camera (no video available, no subscription)

I took it to mean a different camera. My cameras work independently from each other.

Getting in without forced entry, shutting the camera down... Someone knew a few things imo.

The thing is if she is being kept somewhere and she has seen them or knows the voice, If that's the case, they can't let her go alive. Only if she can't identify them.

It’s possible the cameras were either damaged, removed, smashed, disabled, etc., they just didn’t confirm it. The language they used was “the doorbell camera disconnects”.

Statement - "We're not confirming that any cameras were smashed or destroyed around the house," Nanos said.

NY Post timeline
5:32 p.m. Saturday — Nancy travels to go to her family's home for a visit, to play games and have dinner

9:48 p.m. — Her garage door opens

9:50 p.m. — It closes -- and cops believe that this is when she returned home and is going to bed

1:47 a.m. Sunday — The doorbell camera disconnects

2:12 a.m. — Software detects a person on camera, but no video available because "it loops"

"We're not done with that -- we'll do all we can," he said, adding that it could have been an animal

2:28 — Her pacemaker disconnects

11:56 a.m. — Family checks on Nancy

12:03 p.m. — 911 call comes in

Ten minutes later, officers arrived.

I do think there are other cameras. I thought he said as much but I couldn't quite hear him. I think they are keeping the camera situation not clear for us is all I can guess.

That's not a dumb question, I wonder the same thing.
