‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother is missing in Arizona and authorities suspect crime

The disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie over the weekend is being investigated as a crime based on what authorities saw at her home, an Arizona sheriff said Monday.

Asked to explain why investigators believe the Tucson-area home is a crime scene, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and said there were other things indicating she did not leave on her own, but he declined to further elaborate.

“I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls,” Nanos said during a news conference.

The sheriff said Guthrie, who lived alone, was of sound mind.

“This is not dementia related. She’s as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off,” Nanos said, adding that she needs her daily medication.

Guthrie was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home in the Tucson area and her family reported her missing around noon Sunday, the sheriff said.

Nanos said a family member received a call from someone at church saying Guthrie wasn’t there, leading family to search for her at her home and then calling 911.

“From what the family’s told us and everything we’ve learned, she could not walk out of that home 50 yards. We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” the sheriff told NBC’s Tom Llamas.

On Monday morning, Nanos said search crews worked hard but have since been pulled back.

“We don’t see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,” the sheriff said.

Even so, a sheriff’s helicopter flew over the desert Monday afternoon near Guthrie’s home in the affluent Catalina Foothills area on the northern edge of Tucson. Her brick home has a gravel driveway and a yard covered in Prickly Pear and Saguaro cactus.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement on Monday, NBC’s “Today” show reported.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”

A new note.

Ransom note claims Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother Nancy Guthrie “is dead,” TMZ says
TMZ reported on Monday that the outlet received two more purported ransom notes related to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TODAY show host, Savannah Guthrie.
The note claimed to know where Nancy Guthrie’s body is and who is responsible for her kidnapping, TMZ revealed.

According to the outlet, the notes were sent from the same unknown person, who almost two months ago, demanded one bitcoin in exchange for information related to Guthrie’s Feb. 1 disappearance.

The news comes the same day Savannah Guthrie made her return to the TODAY show following her mother’s disappearance.

The note claimed that Nancy Guthrie “is dead.”

After addressing the first note, Levin revealed that the second note states: “I saw her alive with the in the state of Sonora Mexico.”

TMZ said it has alerted the FBI on the two new ransom notes.

The mystery author of the notes claimed they will give up the information for half a bitcoin with another half transferred to their account when there is a public arrest, the outlet reports.

The person behind the note said they have been “disregarded as a scam” by law enforcement and Levin noted that the sender has been “persistent,” despite the potential for being charged with a hoax crime.

It’s unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since the 11th of February for a bitcoin, but I am disregarded as a scam They are free and the case is frozen, but the egos remain hot when it comes to me,” the letter allegedly states.

Despite claiming to hold valuable information, the person says they have nothing to do with the “horrific crime,” insisting that they have been out of the US for more than five years.

I just want what's fair and to live peacefully with enough to start my life again quietly without having to join a witness protection program,” the note reportedly states.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to this potential development in the case.

Isn't there a large reward the guy could collect.

As I suspected, the neighbors are still being harrassed by tresspassers. :sigh:

s investigations into the disappearance of Today star Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, approach their 11th week, police presence in her daughter Annie Guthrie's neighborhood has increased after complaints of harassment from streamers and citizen journalists.
Nancy went missing on February 1 from her home in Tucson, Arizona, after spending an evening with Annie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni. Annie and Tommaso were quickly cleared of any wrongdoing by authorities, and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared in a press conference that it was "cruel" to believe otherwise.
"To be clear…the Guthrie family – to include all siblings and spouses – has been cleared as possible suspects. The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case," he said. "To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims, plain and simple."

In recent days, police presence in Nancy's neighborhood, as well as in Annie and Tommaso's area a short drive away, has increased after locals raised concerns about ongoing harassment from streamers and citizen journalists.
"The sheriff recently told residents in the Guthrie neighborhood during a meeting that there have been increased patrols in the area in response to complaints about streamers and citizen journalists possibly trespassing," the sheriff's department told USA Today.
Meanwhile, former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer defended Annie on X after social media users continued to speculate that she and her husband were somehow involved in Nancy's disappearance, despite the sheriff's department refuting these rumors.

"A lot of people are saying she's a killer, she abducted her mom or had her abducted – not that she's 'porch guy,' but that she pulled the strings," Jennifer said.

I’m surprised they’re still out there because I’m not showing that much online interest in this case anymore. I guess it’s because I don’t check out all the streamers, just the ones that seem to be professional.
