Schofield soldier found guilty of voluntary manslaughter of pregnant wife, multiple other charges
Schofield soldier Dewayne Johnson II was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter of his wife Mischa Johnson on Tuesday among a number of other charges in connection to her July 2024 disappearance
The Army Private First Class Soldier agreed to take a plea deal following accusations of murdering Mischa and her unborn child. In Wheeler Army Courthouse on June 3, 2025, Dewayne pled guilty to over a dozen charges during his guilty plea. When testifying, he admitted to hitting Mischa with a machete in their Schofield home on July 12, 2024.
The manslaughter stemmed from an argument between the couple. They were watching a movie on their TV before leaving for a family outing. Mischa said that a woman on the screen looked like a woman she had accused Dewayne of cheating on her with. The fight escalated; Mischa was yelling and screaming. Dewayne tried to calm her down, following her throughout the house.
Mischa told him that he’s stressing her out. She said that his child is not going to know that he existed, which triggered him. Dewayne said he snapped. He grabbed a machete on the side of the bed and hit her on the head.
Dewayne said that in the moment, he reacted. He expressed disbelief as he testified. “I killed the love of my life, my baby,” Dewayne said.
He continued by saying that he was overwhelmed. He was trying to calm her down and didn’t intend to scare her.
“I couldn’t picture my life without my child. I regret, I shouldn’t have done it,” he said.
Dewayne confirmed that Mischa was dead on the floor. She was not breathing and he couldn’t feel a pulse on her.
The defendant also pled guilty and was found guilty of causing the death of an unborn child.
In regards to how Dewayne got rid of Mischa’s body and the unborn child, he pled guilty to a slew of obstruction of justice offenses with specifications. Two of these offenses are desecrating and disposing of a corpse and unborn child.
After Dewayne killed Mischa, he attempted to dismember her with the machete but was unsuccessful. He resorted to using a chainsaw to cut off her limbs. This made it easier to dispose of her body by throwing away her body parts in separate garbage bags.
“They would have found the body and knew that I killed her,” Dewayne explained.
Dewayne discarded the garbage bags with Mischa’s remains at the dumpster in his unit. Their house was located near the Schofield hospital, the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic. He also noted that
this particular dumpster goes straight to the incinerator. When asked if he had knowledge of this before, he said he previously learned about this information from a friend.
Dewayne faced several charges for crimes he committed during the aftermath of his killing. These charges pertain to obstruction of justice and false or fictitious statements.
The specifications for the obstruction of justice charges include:
- Using bleach, drain cleaner and trash bags to get rid of evidence
- Deleting electronic evidence
- Impersonating Mischa using her phone and social media
- Disposing her belongings
- Rendering her phone inoperable
- Staging her phone
- Reporting her disappearance and actively participating in the search
The false or fictitious statement charges for reports he made to CID or military officers include:
- Mischa would cut her and arms legs
- Dewayne went with her to McDonald's a few days before he reported her missing (Aug. 1, 2024)
- Claimed he did not know the password to her phone when he did
- Confirmed the videos on his phone were taken on the timestamp they appeared as (July 31, 2024)
- Claimed he did not have a Facebook or Instagram account
The plea agreement was accepted on Tuesday afternoon and Dewayne was found guilty of the charges he was being tried for. The defendant could face 10 to 20 years for each of the offenses which would be served concurrently.
The trial recessed for the day and will continue on Wednesday, June 4 which will include his sentencing.
