Army CID seeks public help in locating Schofield woman; $10K reward offered

The United States Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Pacific Field Office at Schofield Barracks is seeking public assistance in locating Mischa Mabeline Kaalohilani Johnson.

A reward of $10,000 is being offered for credible information leading to her recovery.

Johnson was reported missing on August 1, after last being seen at her home on the evening of July 31.

Pregnant woman missing in Hawaii: Army CID posts $10K reward

Mischa Mabeline Kaalohilani Johnson has not been seen since July 31, and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has offered an incentive to help find her.

Johnson, a 5-foot-2-inch, 170-pound woman who is six months pregnant, was reported missing August 1, a day after she was last seen at her Schofield Barracks home in O’ahu, Hawaii.

There is now a $10,000 reward available for any credible information that can assist the CID in her recovery.

Officials say Johnson is the wife of a Schofield Barracks soldier. She has a prominent dragon tattoo on her back.

“She’s a member of the military family, so we want to make sure that she’s OK,” Army CID Special Agent in Charge Ruben Santiago told local NewsNation affiliate KHON.

“Right now, we just have a concerned family, a concerned husband, a concerned community that is wondering where Mischa Johnson is.”

Family and friends undeterred in search for Mischa Johnson

It’s been nearly 2 months since Mischa Johnson was last seen, but that hasn’t deterred family and friends from continuing to search for any signs of her.

A quick prayer was said before heading out for the safety of the search party and hopes of finding any signs of the 19-year-old Mischa Johnson.

“We’re just gonna see if we find anything because there’s no evidence recovered as far as a body or anything like that,” said Mika Paresa, search party organizer. “But the fact that his car was allegedly seen in this area, that’s why we’re focusing here.”

Family and friends believe Misha Johnson’s husband, 23-year-old Dewayne Johnson’s red Mustang was seen in the Wahiawa area after Mischa was last seen in July.

The area is the undeveloped land right before the Dole Plantation if you’re headed to the North Shore. Search parties are dealing with uneven paths, thick brush and tall grass.

“You have to go in to, to actually see,” said Paresa. “It’s not visible by just looking in.”

The group of about 30 people searched the area for hours. There have been several other searches before, both here and on Schofield, but this one was the first to combine both locals and military wives.

“The support we’ve been getting for the searches have been amazing because it felt like it was local searching, and then military wives, but now it’s like a cohesive effort to do the search and have justice for Mischa,” said Paresa.

“How can you not feel touched to come and search,” said Jasmine Kawai-Aweau. “For us, it’s just like you know when one person needs help, we all gotta come together and help.”

Army CID said it did not want to interfere with the search, since it was organized by the public. Special agents said Dewayne Johnson remains in custody and the case is still under investigation.

How can the search for Mischa Johnson be improved?

Family, friends and the community just wrapped up a meeting in Kapolei to improve their search for the body of Mischa Johnson.

The pregnant military wife's family said she was murdered, but her remains have yet to be found.

Dozens of people met at the Hale Moena Community room to collaborate on search maps, talk story, eat and share information about areas searched, and where search parties should revisit.

“This is Mischa’s favorite day, Friday the 13th, so that’s why it's significant,” shared Mischa’s mom, Frances Tapiz-Andrian. “It's good to come together as one and figure out what do we do next.”

Dewayne Johnson II remains in military custody and is charged in connection with Mischa's disappearance. Right now, the counts do not include murder.

As for what’s next is still up in the air. The goal of this meeting is to gain some clarity as to where search parties should focus on next.

One thing many people here agree on is that they’ll continue searching as long as it takes to find Mischa and bring her home.

Husband of missing pregnant woman charged with murder

In a major development, more charges have been filed Wednesday against the husband of a missing pregnant woman, including murder, the U.S. Army said.

Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II was charged with the murder of Mischa Johnson, intentionally killing her unborn child, obstruction of justice, and possession of child pornography.

“It was a relief,” said Marianna Tapiz, Johnson’s sister. “It was like, okay, now I can... plan for closure. So it was definitely like a stepping stone.

Her body has still not been found.

Mischa Johnson's family wants peace after murder charges filed against her husband

Pfc. DeWayne Johnson II is now facing charges for the murder of Mischa Johnson and the intentional killing of their unborn child, Armani. They are charges her family expected, but that doesn't come close to giving them closure.

"The punishment I live every day with the punishment of not having my daughter and my granddaughter around," said Mischa's mother Frances Tapiz-Andrian.

The military earlier charged DeWayne for obstruction of justice and the possession of child pornography.

"I don't know what to say about my son-in-law because that is not for me to decide," she said. "All I ask is that my son in law give or say where her remains are."

The family is holding a vigil for Mischa on Dec. 29.

SMDH. CP, underaged girls, murder of a woman and his own unborn child.

Domestic abuse on military bases.

Such a world. I only hope the justice that should prevail ensues and that's she is found.

He's a military man right, well step up and be a man you POS and tell the family where she is.

He won't though.

Army charges soldier in wife, Mischa Johnson’s, disappearance

The Army’s Office of Special Trial Counsel has formally charged Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II with five charges and 19 specifications related to the disappearance of his wife, Mischa Johnson.

Pfc. Johnson waived his right to an Article 32 hearing, which typically serves as a preliminary investigation. Mischa’s family has been waiting for charges to finally drop for months.

“And we have no control over these things, Right? So we’re finally glad that the day is finally here, especially because we can now we can update the public,” said Misha’s sister, Mariana Tapiz. “I feel betrayed because, you know, we we accepted him right into our family."

The charges include the murder of Mischa Johnson, intentionally killing her unborn child, obstruction of justice, providing false statements, and possession and distribution of child pornography.

Legal experts said they understand the latter offenses since Mischa’s body was never found.

“Because those are almost slam dunks, right? Child pornography, it’s either on your device or it’s not,” Megan Kau said. “When you have this murder case without a body, it’s not necessarily a slam dunk. And so at least the government will be able to hold him accountable for the child pornography.”

The case has now been referred to a military judge, who will schedule the arraignment, pretrial hearings, and trial dates. Johnson remains in pretrial confinement. The case continues to be investigated by the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

“And now we just wait on a date for arraignment, which we will be present for in person,” Tapiz said.

Mischa Johnson is presumed dead, though her body has not been found. CID is asking the public for any information related to the case.

Army husband of missing pregnant wife is expected to plead guilty

A Schofield Barracks soldier, whose 19-year-old pregnant wife disappeared in the summer of 2024, has agreed to plead guilty to charges in a hearing next week, a spokeswoman from the U.S. Army’s Office of Special Trial Counsel said today in an email.

Pfc. DeWayne Arthur Johnson II’s defense counsel negotiated a plea deal with the Army’s Office of Special Trial Counsel, which is not releasing any details on the charges at this time.

A June 3 – 5 hearing at Wheeler Army Airfield Courtroom is scheduled.

On Aug. 27, the Army’s Office of Special Trial Counsel preferred charges of providing false official statements, obstruction of justice and the production and distribution of child pornography in violation of Articles 107, 131b and 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and 14 unnamed specifications against Dewayne Johnson.

Preferral of charges is a formal process in the military when a prosecutor drafts the charges, and a commander signs and reads the service member the charges.

Murder trial for missing U.S. Army wife Mischa Johnson to begin

"Ultimately just justice for Misha, justice for Armani," said Mischa Johnson's sister Marianna Tapiz.

For almost a year now, the family of missing army wife Mischa Johnson has been waiting for justice.

"This is what we've been waiting for right is justice and just a chance to get some closure," she said.

Mischa's husband Private First Class DeWayne Johnson II will take the stand for the first time to explain what happened to his then-pregnant wife who had already named their baby, Armani. He's charged with child pornography and murder and has agreed to plead guilty.

"The accused will have to tell the judge in detail what he did. He'll have to describe all the circumstances of what actually occurred," said Col. Mark Bridges former military trial judge. "If the maximum confinement, let's say, was 50 years, they might arrive at a range somewhere between 10 and 25 years."

Bridges said the case is difficult, especially because Mischa's body has never been found.

"It definitely is a rare case," he said. "And I'm certain that ... that the government is going to have difficulty proving the charge that they've they've alleged, and that's likely what has influenced them to reach a plea agreement to some lesser offense."

But he's confident that justice will prevail.

"Murder obviously this is the terrible thing," Bridges said. "And when you throw in the fact that this alleged victim was was pregnant, was about to be a mother, you know, that's devastating step stating to the military community, it's devastating, I'm sure, to her family and everyone else involved. In the end, you know, it may not be the justice that everyone wants, but it will be justice."

Something Mischa's family is desperate for.

If Johnson's guilty plea is accepted, he's expected to be sentenced this week at the Wheeler Army Airfield Courtroom.

So he has to tell what he did (which may be a lie or not) but doesn't have to tell where she is and that will get him a lighter sentence? Smh.

Schofield soldier found guilty of voluntary manslaughter of pregnant wife, multiple other charges

Schofield soldier Dewayne Johnson II was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter of his wife Mischa Johnson on Tuesday among a number of other charges in connection to her July 2024 disappearance

The Army Private First Class Soldier agreed to take a plea deal following accusations of murdering Mischa and her unborn child. In Wheeler Army Courthouse on June 3, 2025, Dewayne pled guilty to over a dozen charges during his guilty plea. When testifying, he admitted to hitting Mischa with a machete in their Schofield home on July 12, 2024.

The manslaughter stemmed from an argument between the couple. They were watching a movie on their TV before leaving for a family outing. Mischa said that a woman on the screen looked like a woman she had accused Dewayne of cheating on her with. The fight escalated; Mischa was yelling and screaming. Dewayne tried to calm her down, following her throughout the house.

Mischa told him that he’s stressing her out. She said that his child is not going to know that he existed, which triggered him. Dewayne said he snapped. He grabbed a machete on the side of the bed and hit her on the head.

Dewayne said that in the moment, he reacted. He expressed disbelief as he testified. “I killed the love of my life, my baby,” Dewayne said.

He continued by saying that he was overwhelmed. He was trying to calm her down and didn’t intend to scare her.

“I couldn’t picture my life without my child. I regret, I shouldn’t have done it,” he said.

Dewayne confirmed that Mischa was dead on the floor. She was not breathing and he couldn’t feel a pulse on her.

The defendant also pled guilty and was found guilty of causing the death of an unborn child.

In regards to how Dewayne got rid of Mischa’s body and the unborn child, he pled guilty to a slew of obstruction of justice offenses with specifications. Two of these offenses are desecrating and disposing of a corpse and unborn child.

After Dewayne killed Mischa, he attempted to dismember her with the machete but was unsuccessful. He resorted to using a chainsaw to cut off her limbs. This made it easier to dispose of her body by throwing away her body parts in separate garbage bags.

“They would have found the body and knew that I killed her,” Dewayne explained.

Dewayne discarded the garbage bags with Mischa’s remains at the dumpster in his unit. Their house was located near the Schofield hospital, the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic. He also noted that this particular dumpster goes straight to the incinerator. When asked if he had knowledge of this before, he said he previously learned about this information from a friend.

Dewayne faced several charges for crimes he committed during the aftermath of his killing. These charges pertain to obstruction of justice and false or fictitious statements.

The specifications for the obstruction of justice charges include:
  • Using bleach, drain cleaner and trash bags to get rid of evidence
  • Deleting electronic evidence
  • Impersonating Mischa using her phone and social media
  • Disposing her belongings
  • Rendering her phone inoperable
  • Staging her phone
  • Reporting her disappearance and actively participating in the search
The false or fictitious statement charges for reports he made to CID or military officers include:
  • Mischa would cut her and arms legs
  • Dewayne went with her to McDonald's a few days before he reported her missing (Aug. 1, 2024)
  • Claimed he did not know the password to her phone when he did
  • Confirmed the videos on his phone were taken on the timestamp they appeared as (July 31, 2024)
  • Claimed he did not have a Facebook or Instagram account
The plea agreement was accepted on Tuesday afternoon and Dewayne was found guilty of the charges he was being tried for. The defendant could face 10 to 20 years for each of the offenses which would be served concurrently.

The trial recessed for the day and will continue on Wednesday, June 4 which will include his sentencing.

Manslaughter, still, smh. This man had a machete handy on his bed. Thought about his chainsaw. Knew of a dumpster here anything in it went straight to the incinerator from a conversation with a fiend. That must have been one interesting conversation.

Says he wanted his child and that was losing it. Only have his word for that and it blames her.

This man better get as much as can be put on him. If he is ever out again, this world just took another step backwards.

Not NEARLY enough.

Schofield soldier sentenced to 23 years for cruel killing of pregnant wife

The Schofield soldier who pled guilty to the cruel killing of his pregnant wife and unborn child was sentenced to 23 years on Thursday.

For Dewayne’s numerous charges he faced for the death of his wife, the cover up of her body and his deliberate attempts to impede the search, he will serve 23 years. He will also serve 303 days in confinement which will be reduced from his concurrent sentence. In terms of Dewayne's separation from the military, he will be dishonorably discharged.

I agree, it is nowhere close to enough. Numerous charges. Cruelty. Killed his child on top of it. Impeded the search. Yet has concurrent tings and credit. Oh my he got dishonorably discharged, I guess that's something.

This sentence is disgusting, plus it will likely be shortened and he will come out and have a life yet.

This is NOT justice. It's more than none but it's not a match for what was done.

U.S. representative urges military to increase voluntary manslaughter sentence in light of Schofield soldier killing pregnant wife

U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda is urging the military to increase the maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter, following last year’s conviction of a Schofield soldier who killed his pregnant wife and unborn child.

The congresswoman sent a letter to the Chair of the Joint Service Committee on Military Justice on Monday, Jan. 12, requesting the maximum sentence for military members convicted of voluntary manslaughter to be increased. The prison sentence is currently lower for military members in Hawaii and many other states.

Under the 2024 Edition of the Manual for Courts-Martial, the penalty for voluntary manslaughter is no more than 15 years in confinement. In comparison, the maximum sentence for this crime is:
  • Up to 20 years in states like Hawaii, Georgia, Massachusetts and Texas
  • Up to 25 years in New York
  • Up to 30 years in the District of Columbia, Florida (if a weapon is used), Illinois and Maine
  • Up to 48 years in Colorado
  • Up to life in prison in Washington State
Rep. Tokuda learned about the issue after a Schofield soldier’s horrific killing of his pregnant wife. PFC Dewayne Arthur Johnson II admitted to killing his wife, Mischa Mabeline Kaalohilani Johnson, and her unborn child with a machete in July 2024. Johnson dismembered them in their Schofield Barracks home and placed their remains in a nearby dumpster.

Johnson pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and other crimes related to her disappearance in June 2025 and was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

“Considering the perpetrator’s horrific actions to kill his wife and unborn child and cover up his crime through gruesome and unconscionable acts, this sentence seems insufficient. I fear that prosecutors seeking justice were undermined in their ability to impose more stringent consequences by the comparatively low maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter under the UCMJ,” Rep. Tokuda wrote in the letter.

“While nothing can be done about PFC Johnson’s sentence now, your committee has the power to recommend updates to maximum sentences for offenses under the UCMJ to deliver justice for victims in the future. I strongly urge the Joint Service Committee to recommend to the President a significant increase to the maximum penalty for voluntary manslaughter to ensure that the most heinous and remorseless actions yield the highest sentences. That is the least that we can do for Mischa Johnson and her family.”

Good! He needs to actually pay for what he did - plus, it's not safe for him to be in society!!!!!

It won't change his sentence, just the sentences for those that commit such after this, IF they even increase it. I like that there's an effort here to get them too and hope they listen and change it.
