Search still underway for 6-year-old girl reported missing in Denison Friday night

Crawford County Communications Center was contacted at 8:53 p.m. by a family Friday about the disappearance of Mackenzie Godden, according to a news release. Godden, also known as Kensie, was last seen walking away from her home at 129 Oak Ridge Drive in Denison wearing a maroon unicorn shirt and grey pants.

Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Assistant Director Mitch Mortvedt said that the community and local law enforcement searched for Godden into the night while it was storming.

"Searches were conducted by family, friends, neighbors and ultimately law enforcement last evening with no luck," Mortvedt said.

Searches picked back up again at around 6 a.m. Saturday, he said. Crawford County Sheriff's Department, Iowa DCI, Iowa State Patrol, state Emergency Management Agency and other nearby county sheriff's offices and fire departments coordinated efforts to search the area surrounding her home.

Volunteers in the search Saturday are being directed to Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, which is near Godden's home. While there are some developed areas such as the hospital near the residence, most of the area behind their home is rural, with farm fields, timber and rough terrain, Mortvedt said.
