Missouri deputies search for missing married couple Leo and Katherine Lindeman near Anderson

Investigators are searching for a married couple who are missing from rural southwest Missouri.

Leo and Katherine Lindeman were last in contact with someone on Sept. 16, 2026, near Anderson, Missouri, according to the McDonald County Sheriff's Office. They were reported missing Sept. 24, 2026.

Leo Lindeman, 73, is 5'7" and weighs 145 pounds. Katherine Lindeman, 74, is 5'2" and weighs 150 pounds.

A small dog owned by Leo and Katherine is also missing.

McDonald County Sheriff Rob Evenson says a neighbor became concerned after checking on the couple and finding their home empty.

The neighbor called 911, prompting deputies to conduct a preliminary search of the property.

Evenson says investigators later obtained a search warrant for the home and conducted a more extensive search.

About 20 dog search teams searched the Lindemans’ property and adjacent areas, looking for evidence of a struggle, forced entry or other signs that something may have happened to the couple.

Investigators did not find anything unusual.

“It looks as if they just left,” Evenson said. “We’re still hopeful. There’s no concrete evidence that something bad happened to them.”

Investigators also found the couple’s vehicle and their only known cell phone still at the home.

The sheriff says the couple’s front door and windows were open when investigators arrived, but that was not necessarily unusual.

“These folks didn't have air conditioning, so apparently it was not out of character for them,” Evenson said. “That’s what they did to ventilate the home.”

Investigators are continuing to examine evidence from inside the home, including the phone and a computer. They are also reviewing financial records and bank accounts as they try to determine what happened to the couple.

Evenson says leaving the property on foot would have been difficult because of the terrain.

“I wouldn't leave on foot,” he said. “It's very rough. Heavily wooded, with very steep hollows.”

Did not have air conditioning and it was 100 and high humidity with excessive heat warnings. Oof!

This is a strange one with their cars being there and everything. Surely they wouldn’t have taken a walk in that weather??

Plus, they live on a dead end road in a very rural area. My question is how did the neighbor notice that the front door was open since they wouldn't have people just driving by?

I saw the address on something, but now can't locate it. I'll post it if I find it.

Whoa! That's very remote! I guess the only way would be that the neighbor was usually in constant contact and it was weird they weren't answering her/him.

Here's a Facebook page. There is discussion about the house going to an "Amish couple", but not sure if this came from LE or just internet rumors.

If they are referring to the Bylers as the "Amish couple", then they are not devout Amish if they have fb access. I'm not sure if I connected the names correctly, but read through it a few times and I "think" that's what they are implying.

I couldn't imagine driving the horse and buggy on those roads safely. That can't be pleasant BUT at least there mostly isn't much traffic.

I'm once again thinking they went on a walk to walk their dog. It might have been on the darker side to avoid the heat, and then they got lost.

Hopefully there was moonlight, if that happened. That area is pitch black in the dark.

Good camping and float trips in that area that we've done and you can't see your hand in front of you some nights, let alone the road. It's DARK when it's dark!

Another thing, I did a search if it is Amish or Mennonite in that area and there are neither there. Methinks they could have possibly been imposters.

I looked because I've been through that area a lot and never noticed a share the road sign anywhere near there. It would also be awful for horse and buggy transportation and very dangerous.
