Cape Coral Police need help locating missing woman

Lauren Brittney Dumolo, 30, was last seen on June 19th, 2020, at 4927 Coronado Parkway Apartment #1, and she was reported missing on June 21st.

Police say her purse had been located by a citizen at Four Freedoms Park (4818 Tarpon Court) on June 19th, a place she often visited.

Her cell phone was also located in her apartment.

Lauren's status as a missing person was changed to a missing person endangered on June 24th as a result of the investigation.

Lauren is a frequent walker in the area and does not own a car.

Police work to trace Cape Coral woman’s suspicious disappearance

Investigators are working to trace the steps of a young mother who seemed to vanish into thin air.

Nobody has seen 29-year-old Lauren Dumolo in 11 days Tuesday. Cape Coral Police Department considers her disappearance suspicious. Her purse was found at park she frequented, and her cell phone was found by police at her home.

With the help of our Safety & Security Specialist, we looked at her disappearance as police would.

That started with a conversation with her father. Lauren’s dad, Paul Dumolo flew into Southwest Florida from California once his daughter went missing. He says his daughter’s disappearance is out of character.

“Gut feeling as a father, that’s not my daughter,” Paul said. “She would’ve at least called somebody and she would’ve answered my texts.”

Paul admits his daughter’s gone through some tough times but has been on the straight and narrow since she lost custody of her child two years ago. Lauren has a young daughter of 5 years old, who lives up north with her paternal grandmother.

“She didn’t want that for her life anymore,” Paul said. “No matter what it was, she always knew she could reach out to me.”

So, when Paul’s daughter didn’t call him on Father’s Day, he knew something was wrong.

“I can’t cry, man. I gotta stay strong because I gotta find my daughter,” Paul said.


June 19, Lauren’s live-in boyfriend was reportedly the last person to see her. That same day, her purse was found at Four Freedoms Park.

“It’s like she fell off the face of the earth,” said. Boom. Gone. “

We saw police canvassing the area and passing out fliers.

A man we saw talking to police didn’t want to be interviewed on the record but told us that he saw Lauren June 19 around 8 a.m. and waved at her.

He said, the day before, Lauren asked him about available apartments, saying she “wanted to get out of the situation she was in.”

“It signals to me that she’s scared of this man,” Paul said. “I have no choice but to think the worst right now.”

CCPD told us the reason they elevated Lauren’s case to endangered is because, when someone disappears voluntarily, they take their belongings, a wallet, a phone. In this case, she did not.

New clue in case of missing Cape Coral woman

Cape Coral Police say one Cape Coral woman could be in danger. Lauren Dumolos’ father came all the way from California to help find his daughter.

The family was checking the routes Lauren normally traveled, such as Four Freedoms Park, which she walked through every day. When her family went to the park, not only did they find her purse, they also found her shirt.

“Right here, down right in here,” said Lauren’s sister, Cassie Carey, at the shoreline where her sister went every day. She and her other sister’s boyfriend found the shirt together.

“We ran over to it and it was this burgundy, lace shirt that Lauren commonly wore,” Carey said. “When we spotted it, we took a look at it and compared it to photos that she was in, so it’s a very distinguished…it has a pattern on it. It’s lace. It’s not just, like, your typical t-shirt. It’s very obvious that it was one of hers.”

But finding the shirt left Lauren’s family with more questions than answers about her disappearance.

“It’s panic. It’s oh my god how did this get here because we’ve been frequenting this park a lot. We’ve been through this park probably two to three times a day, every day for the last week and a half,” said Carey.

Lauren’s sister called the police to turn the shirt over to them as evidence.

“You don’t know if it was left there as evidence that something bad has happened to her or was it left there for us to have false hope. I honestly don’t know because you have a mixed amount of emotions right now,” said Lauren’s father Paul Dumolo.

WINK News Safety and Security Expert Rich Kolko says any evidence could be a step in the right direction. “Everything is based on evidence, interviews and investigation. Now they have a shirt, so they’ve got something to investigate. They can do interviews: when did that shirt get there, when did somebody find it, who saw it?”

Last week Cape Coral Police told Fox 4, "Unfortunately we have not received many tips in regards to this case. The few tips that we have received about sightings were not Lauren."

“A lot of people knew her and it was like from her house to here is maybe an eighth of a mile, and for nobody to know nothing,” he said. “It’s really frustrating.”

Lauren was reportedly last seen on Friday, June 19 — the same day her purse was found at Four Freedoms Park.

Fifteen days later, Lauren’s sister found a shirt they believe belonged to her in that same park.

“If I stayed there and broke down and I don’t stay strong, I’ll be no good to help my daughter, to find my daughter,” he said.

He’s not alone. A Facebook group created by SWFL Helping Hands organized a search for Lauren Tuesday night at Four Freedoms Park starting at 5 p.m. Paul says he doesn’t know the organizers but believes it could be a gamechanger.

“Just for a community to be that caring and that giving of their time and to find and help find another family that they have no idea, just out of the kindness of their heart, is amazing. It’s beautiful,” he said.

He’s hoping against hope, someone is holding his daughter and will let her go.

“If you give me my daughter and I can take her, I’ll walk away. That’s it. I’m done. That’s my word, I give you my word on that,” Paul said. “Not knowing is worse, it’s worse, it’s hard.”

Cape Coral Police say they have no new information or leads in Lauren’s disappearance. Her father won’t be in Cape Coral for the organized search tonight, as he says he’s looking for her in another location where he believes she may have been.

Marco Island man donates $5,000 to help find missing Cape Coral woman

A Marco Island man is using what he has to help in the case of a missing Cape Coral woman, Lauren Dumolo, in hopes someone will come forward with information.

Jim Edgar is a captain and owner of Sand Dollar Shelling on Marco Island. He doesn’t know Lauren or her father or her sister, but he does know they’re in pain.

“It’s not really about having to know the person or be personally connected to them. It’s about being personally connected to the story in the horrificness of it,” he said.

Cape Coral Police say Lauren was last seen on June 19. Edgar saw our interview with her father, Paul Dumolo, and decided he had to step up.

“I mean, I have kids and this guy is from out of town. I mean, I can’t even imagine what this guy is going through. He has no answers on anything that happened and we just want to help them out,” Edgar said.

So he got in touch with Crime Stoppers and put up $5,000 in reward money. Then, we introduced him and Paul.

“I have to be honest with you, I am completely taken back by his generosity, his concern, his true concern about my daughter and his understanding,” Paul said.

This is the second time the generosity of others overwhelmed him. Tuesday night, dozens of people showed up to search for his daughter. Now, a man donates his hard-earned money.

The kindness of strangers, giving him a boost of hope and energy in his darkest of days.

“If there’s one person out there then I think there’s more than one,” Paul said.

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers say they haven’t gotten many tips in the case of missing woman, Lauren Dumolo.


Zalisko isn't investigating this case, but he questions whether or not her shirt was planted at the park, and the crime scene is actually somewhere else.

“Let’s say there is a suspect in this case, and he wants to throw police off their investigation. He may have come back and put that shirt there,” he said.

Planted or not, Zalisko says the detectives on this case have a lot to work with.

“They have to look at the shirt to see if there was any tears? Was it forcefully removed from her?” He said.

Cape Coral Police Department says divers have searched for Dumolo in the water near the park, not yielding much more evidence. Trish Routte with Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers says they haven’t received a lot of tips on her disappearance either.

“But that doesn’t mean that the information’s not out there. Because it absolutely is,” said Routte.


The next community search for Dumolo is scheduled for Saturday at 5:00 p.m. on Coronado Parkway in Cape Coral.

It has been three weeks since Lauren Dumolo was last seen. Her boyfriend, Gabriel Pena, spoke to WINK News about what he thinks happened to his girlfriend.

“I don’t think she left on her own because she would’ve taken at least some clothes … or her toothbrush or her makeup,” Pena said.

Pena recently was brought in by Cape Coral Police Department to take a polygraph test, and he claims that he passed. Police will not confirm this test result nor will they say if Pena is a suspect in Dumolo’s disappearance.

Pena, on the other hand simply misses her girlfriend and wants her to come home. “I’m worried. I’m worried and scared. Not scared because I didn’t do anything, but I’m just worried something really did happen.”

He says he last saw Lauren that Friday morning, June 26, when she left for work. When he got home that evening, she was gone. He does have a theory about where she could’ve gone. “So my thing is that she went out with one of her friends her friend got her all messed up on drugs and I don’t know what after that,” Pena said.

What stands out about the case?

“I haven’t found her yet,” he said, adding that he has never not solved a missing person case.

“It’s tough. I’m a father myself. I have three kids and one of them is a daughter; I have a girl.”

The case has grown personal with a lot of long hours.

“We’ve had marine units, we searched the Bimini Basin, we had K-9 dogs out there, we’ve had underwater drones in the basin as well as searching and canvassing the surrounding neighborhoods.”

Dumolo’s boyfriend, Gabriel Pena, on Friday told WINK News he’s “worried. I’m scared … well, not scared, because I didn’t do it.”

Is he a suspect?

“I can’t answer that,” Jones said.

But, “at this point, I am not ruling anything out and I won’t rule it out until I find her.”

Tuesday is Dumolo’s 30th birthday, and her dad said it’s going to be tough.

As for what’s next, Jones said he needs help from everyone because he isn’t getting many tips.

Another search is underway Wednesday to bring home a Cape Coral woman who disappeared more than a month ago.

Volunteers met in Cape Coral and will head to the search location in the hunt for Lauren Dumolo, 30. She was last seen June 19.

Family fears the worst as search for missing Florida woman Lauren Dumolo stretches into second month

For 46 days, Paul Dumolo has searched for his daughter, who has been missing since June. He told Dateline that at this point, he fears the worst, but refuses to give up hope.

“I will never give up on my daughter,” Paul told Dateline. “I’m not giving up and I’m not leaving until we find her and answers about what happened.”

“It’s exhausting and overwhelming,” Paul told Dateline. “I came out here from California in June and not a day has gone by that I haven’t searched for my daughter or talked to people trying to figure out where she could be.”



Police are looking at all leads in the case and Det. Jones confirmed several people have been interviewed, including Lauren’s boyfriend. He would not comment on whether anyone they’ve interviewed is being considered a person of interest in the case.

“We haven’t given up and we’re dedicated to do whatever we can to find Lauren,” Det. Jones said. “We encourage anyone who might know something to call the police department or Crime Stoppers.”

No phone, no money, no trace of Lauren Dumolo: Where is the Cape Coral mother?

It’s been 49 days since Lauren Dumolo vanished from her Cape Coral apartment. The young, beautiful mother disappeared on June 19 — her phone was left behind in her home.

“Nobody leaves without their phone,” her father, Paul Dumolo, explained. “So why she left her phone behind, I have a problem with that.”

Lauren’s boyfriend, Gabriel Pena, was one of the last people to see her. He claims he said goodbye to her that mysterious Friday morning before he went to work around 6 a.m.

Later that day, he confirmed a maintenance worker saw her at her apartment complex off Coronado Parkway around 8:15 a.m.

According to Lauren’s sister, Cassie Carey, police were able to track down the last time her cell phone was used. Just after 10 in the morning, Lauren, or someone using Lauren’s phone, tried to video chat her boyfriend on Facebook from the apartment. Gabriel did not answer.

“Lauren doesn't leave her house without her phone, Lauren doesn’t not contact us,” Cassie said.

Days after her disappearance, her purse was found at Four Freedoms Park. Her family said she often walked there and meditated by the water.

About a week later, one of her shirts was found buried in the sand.

“The whole thing to me is really suspicious to be honest with you. It was definitely her shirt and for it to be buried there, someone had to bury it,” Paul said.

“We did find a shirt, it is here at the police department,” explained Cape Coral Lead Detective Nick Jones. “We do believe that it’s hers. I don’t have anything confirming one hundred percent, but we do believe that it’s hers.”



Now that Lauren has been missing for seven weeks, major crimes investigators are looking into the possibility of homicide.

“In a situation like this where someone has been missing for this amount of time, we treat it as serious as possible,” explained Detective Jones. “Because it was abnormal for her not to contact anybody, and the obvious circumstances in her disappearance, it was upgraded to a endangered missing person.”

Lauren’s family is holding out hope that they’ll be reunited with her someday, but the reality of the case is hitting her father hard.

“I think she was murdered,” her father said. “I think something happened and either she got into an argument with somebody or someone tried to sexually abuse her or take her, and she was murdered. Until I have actual evidence that it was something else, that’s my belief.”

Cape Coral police are following many leads, but will not release the names of any persons of interest in this case.

“Every detective in my unit, there are nine of us, have interviewed multiple, multiple people,” Detective Jones said.“There isn’t any one person I wouldn’t rule out right now.”



As with most missing person or murder cases, investigators often question the people closest to the victim. In this case, Gabriel, Lauren’s boyfriend, said he spoke to investigators and took a polygraph test.

“I don’t need to be nervous, cause I really didn’t, you know, I don’t know anything,” he explained.

Lauren’s boyfriend said he didn’t hear from her after he left to go to work. He claims he didn’t get a call or text from her that morning, despite phone records saying otherwise, according to her family.

“Maybe she was looking for an apartment, to get out of where we were at,” he said. “So I was thinking she was looking for an apartment around, and I don’t know, maybe someone took advantage of that, and that was it, and never came back. That’s my theory.”

Gabriel said she wasn’t using drugs and wouldn’t harm herself. Her family agreed.

Several volunteers, as well as Dumolo’s father, will be putting the signs out on Thursday. The signs will be given out at 5:30 p.m. on Miromar Street near where Lauren lived near the Cape Coral laundromat.

It’s been 76 days since Dumolo was last seen on June 19. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $8,000 in reward money for information.

Boyfriend of missing Cape Coral mother speaks

It has been three weeks since Lauren Dumolo was last seen. Her boyfriend, Gabriel Pena, spoke to WINK News about what he thinks happened to his girlfriend.

“I don’t think she left on her own because she would’ve taken at least some clothes … or her toothbrush or her makeup,” Pena said.

Pena recently was brought in by Cape Coral Police Department to take a polygraph test, and he claims that he passed. Police will not confirm this test result nor will they say if Pena is a suspect in Dumolo’s disappearance.

Pena, on the other hand simply misses her girlfriend and wants her to come home. “I’m worried. I’m worried and scared. Not scared because I didn’t do anything, but I’m just worried something really did happen.”

He says he last saw Lauren that Friday morning, June 26, when she left for work. When he got home that evening, she was gone. He does have a theory about where she could’ve gone. “So my thing is that she went out with one of her friends her friend got her all messed up on drugs and I don’t know what after that,” Pena said.
