On 05/16/20 a hiker and his wife were hiking the Gentry Creek Falls area trails in the Cherokee National Forest, Laurel Bloomery, TN. They came upon partial skeletal remains (calvarium only), which were identified as human. They left the area and called 911. Johnson County Sheriff's Office documented location, photographed skull and collected it to bring to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center at the instruction of the county medical examiner.

Johnson County remains identified as man missing since 2013​

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department said remains found in a wooded area off Gentry Creek Road last year have been identified.

Sheriff Edward Tester said DNA testing revealed the remains are those of Harry C. Rosenberg, who had been missing since 2013.

The sheriff’s department said in a press release that Rosenberg was reported missing on Jan. 13, 2013. After extensive search efforts in the area of Gentry Creek Falls, the efforts were terminated, the release noted. According to the sheriff’s office, the case remained open and every lead was developed and followed.

Rosenberg’s remains were located and recovered off Gentry Creek Road in May 2020.


The remains of a man found in May 2020 in Johnson County have been identified as a man who went missing in 2013, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

Police said Harry C. Rosenberg was reported missing on January 13, 2013. Search efforts in the area of Gentry Creek Falls were made, but Rosenberg was not found. The case remained opened though.

In May 2020, human remains were recovered in a wooded area off of Gentry Creek Road. Through DNA analysis, the remains were determined to be those of Rosenberg.

According to information News 5 received in 2013, Rosenberg was 82 years old and was suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
