Search for 10-year-old Jalayshia Alford expands to new location in West Philly; Crime Scene Unit, FBI on scene

Authorities are searching a new area in Philadelphia as the investigation into the disappearance of 10-year-old Jalayshia "Malayshia" Alford continues, according to police and law enforcement sources. Alford was last seen on the 500 block of North Simpson Street in West Philadelphia where she lived with her foster mother, officials say. She has been missing since Monday, October 26 and the case has drawn support from the FBI and local homicide investigators.

The search for Alford led investigators to Cobb Creek Park at the intersection of Vine Street and Daggett Street.

The crime scene unit, homicide investigators, and prosecutors from the District Attorney's Office gathered at a senior bocce club, according to sources who spoke to FOX 29. The area is a short drive from Alford's last known residence on North Simpson Street.

Police say the crime scene unit was present and parked in the back of a parking lot, which they noted typically happens when investigators make a discovery or as a precaution.

FOX 29 confirmed the activity was connected to Alford's disappearance. In a new update, authorities have since cleared the area after they say dog remains were found in the area Wednesday night.

Philadelphia police said the search for a missing 10-year-old girl is ongoing after a false alarm over the discovery of bones.

The search briefly moved to a section of Cobbs Creek Park after bones were found, which were determined to be the remains of an animal.

Oh wow. I looked this case up earlier today and it didn’t say anything yet about this search. I wonder how this area had anything to do with it?

Foster mother charged in death of missing 10-year-old girl in West Philly

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced murder charges Thursday following the death of a missing 10-year-old girl whose body was found in South Jersey.

Authorities said the girl's foster mother, Caprice Williams, has been charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and several related offenses.

The victim, Malayshia Allford, had been the subject of an intensive search after she disappeared from West Philadelphia.

According to Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski, investigators believe Malayshia was last seen alive on Oct. 22.

Authorities said surveillance video from Oct. 26 at approximately 1:53 a.m. appears to show a body being removed from a home in West Philadelphia.

"It was that video that then led law enforcement officials to a suspect vehicle, which then led law enforcement officials to find that vehicle and find a person that they wanted to speak to related to that vehicle," Toczylowski said.

Investigators eventually located the vehicle. Authorities said Malayshia's body was discovered in Lindenwold, New Jersey, around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

A medical examiner determined that the 10-year-old died from blunt force trauma.

I saw this article earlier today before they announced that her body had been found. I wasn't able to post it because I was at work. It has interviews with some of her biological family.

As the search continues, Jalayshia's biological father, Nazir Allford, said he is struggling to cope with the uncertainty surrounding his daughter's whereabouts.

"All I'm concerned with is my child. I'm not concerned about nothing else," he said.

Other biological family members are struggling with a lack of answers.

"It's really so much pain in not knowing," said Nyfisha Allford, Jalayshia's aunt.

Family members expressed concern for both Jalayshia and her father. Court records show he previously pleaded guilty to charges related to interference with child custody. Relatives said he wants what is best for his daughter.

"He loved his daughter. His daughter loved him. We're vouching for that as a family because we know that," said Nafis Horne, Jalayshia's uncle.

Nazir says he has dedicated his life to gaining custody of his daughter after she entered the foster system a few years ago.

His focus is bringing her home.

"Daddy is going to stay strong because you're wise for your age. And I just want you to be safe. Contact somebody because I'm gonna get you," he said.

As the search continues, family members are calling on Jalayshia's foster parent to speak out.

"I would just really like it if you can come out, speak to the news, speak to somebody. Let us know what's going on," Nyfisha Allford said.

A father who wanted to take care of his daughter and was denied. I would really love to know what the courts thoughts were behind that one! 😠
