Indianapolis police searching for missing toddler

Police are looking for help after a 2-year-old went missing from Indianapolis’ near east side Thursday.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 800 block of Rural Street around 2 p.m. Thursday after a family member or someone inside the residence reported a missing toddler.

Police initially reported Jailee Latson was last seen around 1 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Rural Street. However, further investigation revealed Latson had been missing since early Thursday morning.

Latson is 2’10” tall, weighs approximately 35 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a diaper and no shirt.

Police do not know if she walked away or if there is foul play involved. While the IMPD does not have enough information to issue an Amber Alert, they are going through the process to issue a Silver Alert.

The IMPD is asking people to avoid the area as they search for Latson. Anyone in the area with doorbell cameras is asked to check them and come forward to the police with any information.

Siler Alert issued for missing 2-year-old Indianapolis girl

A Silver Alert for Jailee was issued around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Amber Alerts are for children under the age of 18 who are believed to have been abducted and in danger. Police also need to have information about a suspect and their car to issue an Amber Alert.

Silver Alerts are for missing and endangered adults or children. They are much more common for missing people. It was not until last year when the standards for Silver Alerts were expanded to include children.

Reference missing 2-year-old Jailee Latson, IMPD Missing Persons detectives are seeking community assistance in identify the woman in this surveillance video. Detectives believe Jailee is and/or was with this woman and she may have knowledge of Jailee’s whereabouts. The video was from the 600 block of N Rural St at about 4:00 am this morning. The woman is hispanic and appears to be holding a small child in the video.

Detectives are aware the video quality is not the best but are hopeful someone will recognize her. If you are the woman in this video, detectives would like to speak with you.

Video apparently shows a man leaving (NOT the suspect). If you look closely, there is a woman at the end of the driveway who may be holding a small child wearing a diaper.
VERY hard to see. Very unclear when zoomed in.

So, if Jailee was abducted at 4am, someone in her family SURELY noticed before 2pm??? Being that they did not report her missing for 10 hours, do they have some idea who may have taken her?

The possibility of them having an idea is why I gave them a bit of leeway in time of possibly trying to contact certain people before they called it in. It also makes me wonder if they possibly left her alone for a period of time. That's all i can come up with for a plausible explanation of the length of time.

IMPD: Indianapolis toddler Jailee Latson found safe after hours-long search

A 2-year-old girl, who went missing early Thursday from an east side Indianapolis home, was safely reunited with her family several hours later Thursday evening.

Latson was "dropped off" by someone near her family's home and a family member made contact with her, Young said.

"The investigation is still ongoing," Young said. "We are trying to piece together where she was, who she was with. All of those things will come out as the investigation progresses."

😲🤯 Did not see this coming...
Still, she should have called 911 upon finding a "lost" toddler.

IMPD: ‘Woman who found missing toddler is an angel'

The woman seen in surveillance video with the formerly missing 2-year-old, Jailee Latson, is no longer a person of interest in the case. Indianapolis police called her an “angel” for taking care of Latson while she was missing for nearly 16 hours.

“[Jailee] was not abducted. The adult female, she found her,” IMPD Public Information Officer, William Young, said. “Jailee, I think they call her Jelly Bean, had an angel with her all day, so we were glad that [this is] the outcome that we have.”

Young says the woman found Jailee wandering the streets around 4 a.m. Thursday, and proceeded to take care of her. He says when the woman saw the news, Jailee was indeed the missing toddler, the woman brought her back home.

I-Team 8 asked how the child went missing in the first place. IMPD directed I-Team 8 to the Department of Child Services. I-Team 8 asked a spokesperson if they could confirm that Jailee’s parents were under investigation by DCS.

A DCS spokesperson said in a statement, “Indiana confidentiality laws prohibit us from commenting on DCS involvement with a family, even to confirm or deny.”

Young emphasized it was the community effort that was the reason Jailee was found safely.

“If you find a child or toddler out wandering around and you think they’re not where they’re supposed to be, make sure you call us immediately. Don’t wait.”

I wonder if she has a delayed personality?
