OH HERSHALL CREACHBAUM: Missing from Dayton, OH - 12 July 2025 - Age 7 *Found Deceased* (3 Viewers)

‘I’m devastated and heartbroken.’ Grandmother of Hershall Creachbaum speaks; ID from coroner’s office pending

The grandmother of the missing 8-year-old boy, Hershall Creachbaum — who is assumed to be the boy whose body was discovered last evening — has told 2 NEWS about how this tragedy has affected her.

“I’m lost for words, my innocent grandson’s life was taken by a monster,” wrote Missy Rowland Creachbaum. “I want justice, I’m devastated and heartbroken.”

She continued and named a possible suspect and person close to them. 2 NEWS is choosing not to name either until official confirmation from law enforcement.

“I haven’t slept, I can’t close my eyes,” wrote Rowland-Creachbaum. “I see my baby boy, then [Person A and Person B’s] faces pop up, so I can’t close my eyes.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

This article names the person in custody.

He did not deserve this,” said Missy Rowland Creachbaum, his grandmother. “He was non-verbal.”
She told Robertson that Hershall had autism and was non-verbal. He used a wheelchair to get around and could only walk a few steps without it.

Missy said that she took care of Hershall and his sister, up until a recent crash put her in the hospital.

Missy said that he attended school at Ruskin Pre-K in Dayton.
Two of his paraprofessionals said he was popular there.
“He was one of the sweetest, brightest children I’ve ever met in my life. He couldn’t talk. But he expressed himself in a lot of ways,” said Jenny Davy.
“He was really well loved by everybody, everybody looked for him, said hi to him in the hallways, he made special visits to classrooms during the day just to say hi,” said Ashley Teavi.

Hershall’s great-aunt, Jessica McNier, told Robertson that Hershall and his sister were living with their mother and her boyfriend, Michael Kendrick.
“You know, I sit and think. My mind is my worst enemy,” she said.

As previously reported by
News Center 7, Hershall’s family and three law enforcement sources have confirmed to News Center 7 that Kendrick is in Montgomery County Jail in connection with the boy’s death.
Jail records show that he is being held on suspicion of Murder, Felonious Assault, Child Endangering, Tampering with Evidence, Obstructing Justice, and Abuse of a Corpse Charges.

Oof. Not sure if this link will work. But if you click on Jail History in the upper left...

He's got previous charges for domestic violence, burglary, robbery, aggravated trespass, arson, rape...
Yep. He's soooooo nice. 😳

Why would anybody get involved with subsidy like that in the guest place? Then you have a disabled child, it seems like your guard should be on high alert to people like that. I just don't get it.

7-year-old dead for ‘several weeks’ before being reported missing; mother, her boyfriend arrested

Two people are facing charges in connection with the death of a missing child whose body was found hours after he was reported missing over the weekend.

News Center 7 previously reported that 7-year-old Hershall Creachbaum was reported missing around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Police previously reported that he was 8, but said he was 7 on Monday.

His family reported him missing from a home in the 400 block of Xenia Ave.

Hours later, around 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening, police found a body believed to be Creachbaum’s less than half a mile from where he was reported missing.

Dayton Police Chief Kamran Afzal confirmed on Monday that Creachbaum had actually not been seen for several weeks, and that he had been dead for several weeks.

Police have made two arrests in the case. Creachbaum’s biological mother, 36-year-old Ashley N. Johnson, and her boyfriend, 38-year-old Michael Kendrick, were both arrested and charged in connection with the case.

Johnson has been charged with obstructing justice and failure to report a death.

Kendrick has been charged with three counts of tampering with evidence and one count of abuse of a corpse.
